#15 - Why do people suffer? Death, Faith, and Medicine with Neurology Resident Dr. John Rhee

from Farm to Future · host Jane Zhang

Dr. John Rhee is a neurology resident at Mass General Brigham at Harvard Medical School and the co-founder of the podcast and platform The Hippocratic Forum. He has published articles on palliative care, physical-assisted suicide, and on loneliness at hospitals in the time of COVID (links below). He is also a devout Catholic and one of the smiliest people you will ever meet. In this episode, we talk about how John got over his fear of death by volunteering at a hospice, how his coursework in human development and policy tie into his work, and why he’s so passionate about end-of-life care. We dive deep into topics of what human flourishing could look like in a hospital, and how our society thinks about death, dying, and the sick and elderly. John also cares deeply about helping other medical residents ground their practice in their values and ideals, which led him to co-found a podcast for medical students called The Hippocratic Forum (links below). >> Connect with JohnThe Hippocratic Forum & Podcast: https://www.hippocraticforum.org/John’s article about loneliness in the hospital during COVID: https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-loneliness-and-suffering-in-the-hospital-during-coronavirus-20200327-j77mo2qxa5aetj7aipyq44wu3y-story.htmlEmail: [email protected]>> Connect with UsInstagram: @insideoutwithjaneWebsite: www.insideoutwithjane.comEmail: [email protected] 10% off delicious local farm-fresh food delivered to your door with my link for FarmMatch: https://farmmatch.com/jane Get 15% off high-quality Italian olive oil with code FARMTOFUTURE: https://shop.vignolifood.com/FARMTOFUTUREGet 40% the CircleDNA’s Premium DNA test with code JANEZHANG: https://circledna.com/premium Connect with Jane Z. Instagram: @farm.to.futureEmail: [email protected]: farmtofuture.co
