150 ~ Ask Not (What is a Beatnik?)
from Podcast in A minor Hosted by Amy Zoellers
It’s Monster of the Week—and it’s BEATNIKS! Are they even monsters at all? No way! Cursed, perhaps, some of them, and writing through the pain!—but hey, 30 years ago, the Muses brought me this weird little poem-to-song, and at last, I’ve decided not to question it! So let’s dig into the Beats, irreverently termed “beatniks” by the popular press—their freedom! Their antics! Plus, we’ll look in on the sparkling cast of the 1990 television series “The Outsiders”—little bit cursed. And why I had to read and reread On The Road by Jack Kerouac when I was 15! Let’s do it. https://the-artifice.com/beat-literature-influence-death/ https://www.beaconcollege.edu/how-death-begat-life-for-a-beat-genius-beacon-professor-explores-uxoricide-and-william-s-burroughs/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_Generation https://www.beatdom.com/beat-generation-mental-hospitals/ https://findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/news/82611-does-mental-illness-beget-great-poetry%3F-these-4-poets-exposed-the-sickness-of-a-society-that-sought-to-contain-them https://findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/news/82611-does-mental-illness-beget-great-poetry%3F-these-4-poets-exposed-the-sickness-of-a-society-that-sought-to-contain-them https://www.beatdom.com/the-beat-generation-gonzo-journalism-and-crap-writing/ https://zoerose0.medium.com/a-forgotten-female-beatnik-the-short-and-sad-life-of-elise-cowen-d48ed9c78886
