The study identifies that while LSD suppresses tumor growth, its use is limited by psychedelic effects caused by brain penetration. To overcome this, researchers developed IHCH-8110, a specialized non-brain-penetrant agonist that selectively targets receptors in the peripheral nervous system. This compound works by activating enteric glial cells, which then release specific cytokines to recruit and empower CD8+ T cells within the tumor. Notably, this treatment can transform "immune-cold" tumors into responsive ones, markedly increasing the effectiveness of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy.
