This research examines how systemic immunosuppression alters the tumor microenvironment in patients with non-melanoma skin cancer. By utilizing advanced spatial multi-omics and single-cell sequencing, the authors discovered that while the types of immune cells present are similar across patients, their spatial organization and densities differ significantly. Specifically, immunosuppressed patients exhibit a reduction in intratumoral macrophages and a less diverse T cell repertoire, factors linked to poor survival outcomes.
