154: Indomitable Starfleet

from Warp Five: A Star Trek Enterprise Podcast

"Detained" Deep Dive.   In the wake of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Executive Order 9066 was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, authorizing the deportation and incarceration of Japanese Americans. Nearly 120,00 people on the West Coast were forced into internment camps further inland under suspicion of spying for the enemy. At least 62% of those incarcerated were United States citizens. These actions were found much later to be based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership" (Civil Liberties Act of 1988) and, decades later, are the focus of many films, documentaries as well as TV shows including Star Trek: Enterprise. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Patrick Devlin and Brandi Jackola take a deep dive into the first season episode "Detained". They discuss racism, a Quantum reunion, exploding walls, and why it's wrong to incarcerate an entire species because of the actions of a few.  Chapters Intro (00:00:00)  Welcome, Boomers!
