#154 Steve Andrews from Structural Reinforcement Solutions talking about Carbon Fiber reinforcement over concrete

from The Construction Life

What a great show we have today, talking about carbon fiber reinforced polymer and the countless residential and commercial applications in construction. Discussing basement cracking, bowing, leaks, settling and more and how this product can repair these and many other issues. We get right into the science behind the carbon and epoxy, the engineering, installing and training. The process begins with images and or site visits of the issue, it’s never as simple as one stop solution, the objective is to research the true reason behind the failure and engineer a solution. These techniques for Steve began in the residential market but discussing the benefits of this product a lot of concrete trades were also getting a lot of commercial work and again applicable to their business. The conversation shifts to Miami Surfside Condominium Collapse and all of the lives that were lost. How all the signs were there, there were issues with the structure and how the builder actually had previous infractions and was given a slap on the construction wrist and then right back to building and his next project was the Surfside project.Structural Reinforcement Solutions looks at the causation of the crack, shift, issue, it’s not always what’s visible on the surface, they want to know the true reason behind the issue and then assess and repair the root cause and not simply the surface cause. I ask the question, where is the one area that has the most amount of questionable concrete projects and require the most repairs, Steve shares the city and why. We also discuss what exactly is carbon fiber and why is it so strong? We wrap up the show with the fact, there are over 230,000 bridges across America with structural deficiencies. What an amazing show and thank you so much Steve, for sharing so much must needed information, educating us and our listeners or a solution that could be a part of a future project.
