Hello and welcome to Retrospection in this episode We're unfurling our maps and pointing off of our compasses as we join lowest in Clark's core of discovery exubedition across the newly acquired western portion of the country After the Louisiana You're looking at how many strange like no no no no it's not Lewis and Clark Lowison Clark, but I spent four days hiking across the trail harassed by hornets ravaged by Ravens and buggered by a burr All my notes reference this bug and by what? What was I supposed to watch? Lowison Clark the new adventures of Superman. Oh, I'd rather be ravaged by a raven.

Unfortunately. This is what you've got. Okay. Well, I'll just Know I will make do hello.

Welcome to Retrospection in this episode We're unfurling our capes. I'm pointing off with our crypt tonight as we join the TV series Lewis and Clark the new adventures of superman from 1993 to 1997 My name's Colin and great joy and camp. We are in view of the ocean this great. Oh, no, this is gonna work is it?

That's the great expedition so from the TV show no, you know, you're gonna have to rethink it You introduce yourself that a mine's Paul and never underestimate the need for a good obituary. Oh, I've written y'all's Oh, I know you're 40 years you wrote it 40 years ago. I know I know I know I'm James and is there a bird is there a plane? Nope.

Just a guy in a pair of tights and a cape No, that's you looking at your dad again. Oh, no Give him the way away the sausage is made here. Don't want to know Yeah, don't know one of these he tight and sausage is mentioned in the same sense. Thank you very much TV DB says I'm much more lavish version of the popular Superman television series Which at first earth 40 years earlier lowest and Clark focused more on that minus deals early adult years in metropolis with the Unknown help of Lois Lane Clark Kent creates a superman bearing the top what the hell who wrote this not you obviously No, I didn't know it makes less sense than if I wrote it.

Oh, well, we all know what it's about that way He's about Superman. Yeah, and Lois. Well, you think it is. Yeah, and it's now steam cane is clack came to Superman Terry Hatcher is a Lois Lane Lane Smith is periwite and Tracy Skoggan's as cat grant.

It's pretty good cast Yes, pretty good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah directed by Robert Butler. He's a legend, isn't he? Yeah, prolific TV director shows like Remton steel He just street blues midnight Carla and did the pilot for moonlighting and he also didn't call it for Star Trek original series as well Oh, that guy is I don't give you's with us anymore, but you know, no, I don't think yeah He's he was renowned for being the go-to guy for pilots because he shot them like movies Now see I thought you're talking about Erlang pilots for a second, man.

Well, maybe he was I don't know, you know, yeah, yeah It maybe had a lot of strings to his bow. Oh, he's a musician. He might well have it I mean the level of research that we do. I mean who knows he could have been Well, I don't have much information about this show so I'm relying on YouTube because let's be honest in this room YouTube other Superman nerds This is this is why James is has been brought on board because he is our resident comic book guy I think oh, okay.

Yeah, I know you think it's me because usually but he's he's another level So that's why he's on board with this because my my superman knowledge starts with superman the movie Yeah, it was very good. Yeah. Yeah and ends with superman 2. So that's it Well, you got all the good Chris for me from that way.

That's good. Yep. Yep So this show was already in development several years prior to this And the writers always wanted her to be a wedding between Clark and Lois on the show Which is what we get a layer in the series However, the comics also were finally wedding and it was felt that both the comics and the series should kind of reflect each other at the time So dc came up with the death of superman storylines in the comics to give the series time to catch up with the idea of the wedding No, death death of superman is a huge even you probably heard of death of superman haven't you? Yeah, he lost his hearing, right?

No, no, no, death death. Oh, sorry. He dies. Yes.

He gets Spoiler. Well, it's kind of in the title, isn't it? He gets the shit kicked out of him. Let's say He does.

Yes. Yeah, how would you describe it? Batter. Yeah.

Yeah, he's back. Yeah. So they wanted this show to sort of run concurrently with what was going on in the comics at the time Batman's reference four times throughout the series. So it was kind of a little bit of a cinematic universe going on as well But he doesn't appear.

He doesn't appear. I think you see a silhouette on a hill at some point Yeah, and that's about it. You know, but you know, they're trying they're trying You know, there's more shadowing to things that you know, they're going on there, you know, right comic books and stuff First coat who would play Lois's mother in the show had previously played Lois Lane in the 1951 Superman and the Mole Men Nice connection. Yeah, and the 1952 first season of the Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves Dean Kane was the first actor to audition for the role Superman and the series create originally dismissed him as too young for the part Staying that we're looking for a Superman not a super boy.

Oh, that's a dig. That is a bit of a dig, isn't it? Very recover from that to be honest with you. I mean, what's the age difference between him and Terry Hatcher?

Cat me much, can I? No, no. No. So why is he too young and she's okay?

He does kind of look boyish, doesn't he? I suppose he does. Yeah, I mean if you think about it within context of the show, it's supposed to be like the first time he's Superman So he's not gonna be too old. No, he's early 20s.

He's just left his purse, right? Yeah, and also if you want to show to run what five, seven years? Seven years that was a bit ambitious. Wasn't it calling for this show?

I mean, wow How many years did it run? Like four? Five? Not very long.

No, four. I think it was. The question was Terry Hatcher in the whole thing? Yes Reluctantly by the end of it, I think Bit of a bit of a Gillian Anderson scolly thing going on like oh god.

I've got another show and a season of this show, you know Exactly, but the first choice for the role of Superman was an actor called Gerard Christopher No, he was dismissed after they realized that he'd already played Superboy in the 1988 TV series Why is that a problem? I think they just wanted to not associate with that show because I mean you've seen Superboy. I've seen some of it It's pretty bad vaguely remember. Yeah, it's pretty bad.

It's one of those shot-on-video cheap looking 80 shows, you know But that actually links into what I was thinking that I thought this was shot-on video because I remember it having that video look But it's not and it looks really nice. Yeah, exactly. I mean this pilot was shot in 35 millimeter But I think the show was shot in video. It might be shot in film and then edited right?

Which was popular thing in the 90s to do which is a shame because it does look good in 35 millimeter You know John shear he plays like slooper he left the show after the first season because he was tired of commuting from New York to LA That's okay I could play about my hour to work Although we did return for a few guest spots here in the rest of the series, but never as a regular again So was Lex Luthor no longer a current villain? Not really no no he kind of pops up here in the book But he's they moved on from him Frank Gaussian and Adam West both guessed it on the show It's a nice little Batman connection there And the fifth season was ultimately cancelled after ABC shifted the time slot around to I think it changed it to like Friday nights at nine o'clock or something like that And I was like the death hour wasn't it for the time and it took a massive ratings hit so they cancelled the fifth season And if memory serves, I'm pretty sure the fourth season and you're on a massive cliff angle as well So you never get a resolution to that's annoying. Yes Um kevin Sorbo of Hercules fame in addition for the role of Superman Yeah, not really You know The weird thing is he goes around telling people that he got he got the role until Dean Kane came along and talking from him Well, that's not true if Dean came was the first person exactly Kevin Sorbo strikes as the kind of person that would spin his own yarn You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, I don't like people like that I mean after all I was fur to be super weird.

I mean, I'm super really Yeah, that far along really wow and I would have seen Kevin. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, do you not mean 300? Wow I'll wait even for you. It's still pretty good.

I'll take free. I'll take 300 I can see you still like Kent just not the other guy That'll be true. Yeah, if he's just yeah, he's played a play quite great. Oh, you play super No, they got somebody else to do that just trust me.

It's a really good disguise This was real. This one really works. Nobody would ever suspect. I'm telling you This is interesting one Dean Kane actually appeared on the Noel Edmonds house party show as Superman Well, he was playing Superman on yeah, was it so that popular in the UK?

Yeah, I don't know if you remember but when it used to be shown directly after Noel's house party and he used to introduce it sometimes Oh, right. Okay. So um he appeared a Superman aka Clark Ken on the show and the whole stick that it was um Noel had some green jelly which Superman thought was Kryptonite Sounds good sounds good. Those were the days.

I think it was mr. Blobby not involved Mr. Tada vie. Oh, it's a bit.

Wouldn't it be nice if Ross Abbott had popped up? Oh, that would have made that would have made everything wouldn't it? Yeah, playing is one of his superhero characters Yeah, what was that character name that used to play? Blunderman.

Yes, I think it was yeah. Yeah, you have no idea what we're talking about. I know Mr. Blobby is that's you don't know Ross Abbott is they're doing it right your homework for tomorrow is to go and look up Ross Abbott on YouTube And you're welcome by the way I'll be very very thankful for that Uh Dean Kane had to kiss 12 actresses in screen tests to decide on the right actress and chemistry I bet he didn't probably only had to do three.

He just said oh no, I still have 12. Let's do some art. Let's keep going But he did go on to say that Terry Hancher was the best Oh, yeah, we'd have to say that. Yeah, well, she was alright.

She was second Second best. I'm pretty sure that's not pierce brossman said when he made tomorrow never dies He had problems with it, didn't he? You know, yeah wasn't it though that she she was going through a trouble time. Wasn't she a troubled time?

Yes. Yeah I think his actual quote was you need to learn some humility All right, uh Dean Kane's her had to be almost glued in place during the flying scenes Because he just flops around flapping around because of the blowing machines wind machines that they had to use to simulate the The wind I guess is why you would have made a better superman Would they know no no no Uh a daily planet globe at the front of the building cost $15,000 to produce. I mean Is that a lot? It's big globe Yeah, I know that they didn't put it on top of the building there.

They can't do that And they're you know, I mean tradition is on top of the daily planet building but they just had it at the front Yeah, because it's a fake building Well, yeah, but I mean, you know, it's always a fake building. It's never real But the other planet doesn't really exist. It's sometimes every buildings part But this that outside of that daily planet clearly One of us studio It really is, isn't it? Oh, yeah Uh, we got a bit of a Star Trek connection in this pilot because we see purses combata Do we see?

Sorry? No, she's the uh, uh, I don't know why it's called. It's like the United Nations. Yeah, I think they call it like the League of Congress or something like that She's the one who tells them that we're not going to use your money Versus combata is I know who you're talking about in terms of this if I say decker unit What I like from the next generation next generation Wow Your favorite star Trek movie.

Oh, yeah, the trouble is he's confused because deckard unit is your safe word I like it. Yeah in the motion picture She's the the actress playing the um, yeah, the chairwoman. It's not bad you're even I'm a final acting role as well before she dies. Oh, is that?

I brought it down a bit. Yeah, keep it light pop America is talking about Lois and Clark Superman TV guides says Lois and Clark is the show to watch Superman Lois and Clark takes off like a rocket Superman Superman Superman came puts other reigning he-man to shame You know my name, but I'm yours. Superman seems to have caught on patch the show the press calls the seasons most entertaining. I'll be seeing Lois and Clark one week in tonight at eight seven central So we begin with a big ass logo.

Sorry big s logo on the screen. Yes, that's right. Yes Talent second case you think music's a bit. Yeah, no, I think it's trying to emulate John Williams, but on a budget You know, it's I mean, it's super money And it kind of works for me a little bit, but I think I think the incidental music's better than the actual theme in this You know, um, it's fine.

It's fine. It works It reminds me of the um cartoons that would come out around that time They had that same kind of feel to it where it wanted to be John Williams, but put them Everybody was copying each other. Yeah that period. You think it was like the Superman anime.

Yeah, yeah It was done by the Batman people. Yeah, yeah, so we're gonna taxi arriving at the daily planet And uh, Lois and the worst disguise ever committed to celluloid. Yeah, she's not really an anybody even with a beer. Is she really?

No, no, I mean, you can even see the beards stuck on. I mean, she I'm getting this right. She's strapped down her uh, Lady Lumps. Yes.

I mean, we're probably been less if you just said just Bressed. All right. Yeah, you can just set it. Um, yeah, she has but yeah, it's not working.

Is it? No, no, but she's been under cover to expose a million dollar car theft ring. Yeah by dressing as a hobo Oh, she's supposed to be a hobo. I don't know why she's supposed to be.

I thought she was supposed to be some sort of like shady gangster type person Yeah, I thought she was supposed to be like some That he from the crook. Yeah Well, we've run through the whole dark like a types of people there. Maybe she's that good that she's covering all those bases, you know, so Yeah, clearly we're wrong because we're all got different ideas. None of them was like undercover journalists.

Yeah, definitely definitely This actor playing Jimmy that we're gonna get to in a second. He eventually was replaced because they felt that he was not young enough to play the role He looked about 16. Yeah, I didn't have a problem with him. Yeah.

No, they didn't like him. They said that he looked like he he was um, clerks like brother Oh Yeah, because Jimmy he's like he's a journalist. We just don't really get decent stories, right? He gets to do the obituaries and yeah things for the boss and And more of a like photographer if anything trying to be trying to do it.

He's a typography in this episode They tried later on towards the end when they go I won't get too much into it when they go sneaking about the um, yeah, based Jimmy starts trying to take pictures Yeah, he's got a little spy camera that James bones got, you know that little sort of click click like thin spy camera Yeah, you know, yeah And we learned that Lois has been trying to get an interview with Lex Luthor, right? But so far she's been on the successful. Mm-hmm. So clock arrives at the city set On the on the WB backlot.

Yeah, but a boss has break problems and so he goes to help them, right? Yeah, we learned about his powers to stop traffic and there had to be nuns crossing the road, didn't they? Always yeah, yeah, no monks though. Unfortunately, no no no no to shame You know if it were monks, I know we got it done.

But we're not we can't can we you know? No, you think the nuns should have run though Why? Because then they beat they're gonna beat nuns on the run on the run, right? Can we just show a second silence for the death of covertations.

Oh, that was good. Come on. I worked on that one Did you I know we should do it Wait wait that is pal the best thing to say so that's just off the top of my head Don't they'll go into details and say spend years writing it down honing the skills when I said I worked on it I mean, I spent like about 10, 15 seconds thinking about it. You use your level of work for me.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You don't expect that much from me, do you? No. No.

I know. Is this enough for me to replace him yet? Well, no, up. Well, up.

All right. Stepping with grave, would you? Geez. Back in the, and jumping if I move too fast about stuff.

No, no, keep going. It's fine. Back in the daily planet, a nut job turns up. Yeah, I want to become one of these, your old doom guys.

I want to get older. I want to get older, obviously. Oh, I already want to wait for. What?

You're one of them now. No, I don't go around going, don't go down there. You know, there's owls down there. Is that what these people do?

It's like, what's wrong with owls? Why are they focusing on owls? You go down a dark lane. You see an owl.

It's going to be scary, isn't it? Is it? Yeah, you've all done a hole. Is an owl staring at you?

Are you going to know? Wait, where does the hole come from? It's going to be a hole. It's going to be a hole.

Yeah. Why is there a hole? Well, yeah, this is what my role would be as the strange, you're all doomed guy, you know. You're running and go.

I was in a hole, sorry now. With an owl. Yeah. That's it.

Yeah. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it.

I never pull it off. Well, let's try it. You're all doomed. I'll tell you.

Help me now. Go into the town centre. Oh, OK. And try it publicly.

I'll do that. But if I'm not around for the next episode, you'll know why. Well, it doesn't matter. James is wrong.

Exactly. Yeah. So this is not just that same. The messenger is going to explode.

Yes, he does. Yes. And before you drag that, he hands over a brown paper wrapped parcel. This is the second time we've seen a brown paper wrapped parcel in two episodes of the podcast.

I'm going to think we should change the podcast to brown paper wrapped and just do shows that feature brown paper wrapped parcels. I'm sure there's a market for it. I'm sure there is. Yeah.

Well, for the podcast or the bag? Both. Yeah. We learned that the messenger is a rocket, right?

It is, yes. Yeah. So a space shuttle, I should say, really. Yeah, it's kind of a mix of both, isn't it?

Because it's too big to be a, it's too small to be a space shuttle and too big to be a rocket. So it's all right. Goldilocks. Right.

Say it. Wow. Well, this shuttle is just right. So we learned that it's a shuttle that is taking a final proportion unit to a space station from Efias.

And if the shuttle doesn't make any time the space station will fall out of orbit. Ooh, yeah. Look, it's too excited. That was the level of excitement I was watching it.

So, you know. We meet Kat, who is the gossip columnist for the paper, who looks down on Lois and is apparently the sexiest woman alive. And don't I watch this? I had forgotten that she was a character at all.

But Kat? Yeah. Kat's in the new Superman movie that's coming out. Apparently so, yeah.

Yeah. So is she in it in a lot of the series? I think she's in most of the first season, and she just disappears. Good.

OK. The same character does reappear in the CW Supergirl show later. All right. So extra detail nobody needed.

Just a Superman fact, you know. Right. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Clark is a writer at the Daily Planet. I mean, Perry White, as an editor, he seems to have no control of his office. He reminds me of another manager.

I don't know who you're getting out there, Colin. I don't know. I mean, for example, Lois doesn't want to do a story she's been given about the theater closing down. She just kind of does her own thing.

Yeah. I mean, people complain that the character of Lois Lane, the modern character of Lois Lane, is too. OK, I can put it. She's too up front.

She's too modern. But her character was always like this, as evidence in the show. You know, she's supposed to be in a win. Yes, she really is.

I would have been like, you know what? I'm going to go work with Jimmy. He seems a lot more fun and chilled than you. Oh, Kat.

Yeah. Yeah. You have a cat. I'll do the gossip call on this.

I don't care. I do think this is a good introduction to Perry Clark and Lois this scene. I think it works quite well. Because you know who these people are.

And in fairness to the whole thing, I think these actors, I think it's an instance of we talk about shows where actors really become the characters from the get go. They know their characters. And I think this is one of those shows, I think. Right.

Right. Also, I like to read a lot of stuff. People seem to look down on Dean Kane's acting. So I like, I saw a lot of comments, but I didn't have a problem with it.

I mean, I think I might have done back in the day, if I'm honest. But watching it again, I did have a problem with it all. Yeah. No.

I didn't. It just feels like Clark. It does. Yeah.

He feels like the character, doesn't he? Yes. Yeah. And he's brought examples of his work, not Dean Kane.

I mean, Clark Kane. I'm sure Dean Kane had to bring the samples of his work. I was in this. But he doesn't get a job, right?

Not at first. No. He doesn't. No.

And he goes home and he's got a little dingy apartment. Mm-hmm. He'd rather bank, wouldn't you? He's got powers.

See, now you're going down the route of being a supervillain guy. That's just a little bank. Oh, it's all right. It's a little bank.

It's fine. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

That's true. That's a nice one. That's true. Yeah.

Damage properly damaged. Yeah. It gets sued by someone on the bus for Whiplash. That bus stopped straight away.

You know, it's a good point, really, because if you're a superhero, I mean, you're damaging your building, you're damaging properly all the time, fighting these super powered villains and stuff. You're going to get sued, aren't you? Yeah. Look at these new modern superhero films.

They wipe people out and hold buildings and cities while they're fighting each other. I think it even fowls as people. Yeah. I think it's a man of steel.

I think Superman must have killed about two, three dozen people. Yeah. Yeah. So a little bank job.

Yeah. Yeah. Lois goes home to a sister Lucy. She doesn't have a date for Lexalife as well.

Apparently Lois has problems dating. I can't imagine why. We'll leave that one there. I just a cheesy line, which I kind of liked about.

She just wants to meet a super guy. You like that line? I thought it was all right. In the context of the show, I thought it was okay.

My eyes rolled so high. I could see up my ears. I'm sure they did. I'm sure they did.

Before I went, what time was it? I did like a previous scene with Clark walking around his apartment on the walls. They used the same set up that they used in all those old Hollywood movies with Jean Kelly and people like that where they evolved. Yeah.

Yeah. Look at those. It's a bit awkward when he got back onto the ground level. Yeah, he did look like he was about to collapse, didn't he?

He was trying to stay. But it was better than trying some special things. Yeah, definitely. Yeah.

The next day Clark encounters those theatre protesters and he sees a woman looking at somebody called Billy stirs through the wall using his X-ray vision, right? And inside there's a woman re-enacting a seed on stage and a bulldozer about to knock the theatre down but he uses heat vision to cause the vehicle to break down. He's doing lots of little things. We're seeing little things.

Yeah, a little hints of his powers. This actress playing Beatrice, who's the actress inside the theatre. Her name is Gloria Leroy and she really did have a long running career in theatre in Boardville. So it's kind of from the heart what she's doing really.

Interesting, right? Inside of your plazas, you know? He likes people, right? Yeah, yeah.

Which is unlike Lois, who seems to hate people. People hate her? This is true, yes. So I like Clark.

He puts a story together about the theatre. She would interest a piece, right? You can write really quickly. He's got some super-typing and he almost has a keyboard on fire, doesn't he?

Yeah, he does. That's a you work, isn't it? So fast that there's smoke coming off your fingers when you're typing. That's right.

Yeah, I have to have a fire. It makes me wish her right next to me at all times. Is that right? But that's just going to put it down the pump.

Fair enough. Fair enough. Okay. This new story gets him a job, right?

On a daily plan. It's a beautiful moving piece, right? On the news they see the messenger shotful starting to explode. Mmm, a special disaster, yes.

I should point out that the nut job became in is a guy called Dr. Platt who originally worked on the messenger shotful. So his ravings actually came true. Because he said it's going to explode.

He did. Yeah, he knows what he's talking about. He does. So low at a clock, go to see him.

And it turns out that he discovered that heating devices have been replaced by cooling systems and knew that the shuttle would explode. Because he planned to live with his wife and child on the Prometheus. Does people go on to go live there? Yeah, it's like a space station, isn't it?

Not like a space station. It is a space station, pal. Alright. Be down, Dick.

Okay. Somebody wants the Prometheus to fail, but they don't know who, right? Mmm-hmm. The go-to space station, to talk to Dr.

Baines. Yeah, we get a weird line where, doesn't he say, oh, young for a woman in her position? Well, that's what you do now, and since Roger Marr and Moonraker, every time there's a woman in position on a space-related field, you go, oh, but she's up to something because she denies there was ever a part from Dr. Platt.

You can't deny that Terry Hatcher and Dinkane. They do have a good on-screen chemistry, don't they? Well, give it a good girl. No, they don't.

The terrible together. See, I can't do it. No, they're not. They're great together.

I'd like to say, because she's just, a character is just calling him throughout the entire thing. Yeah, but- And ripping him apart and just looking down. Oh, yeah, but I think she has moments. I think she has moments.

I think she has moments. Yeah, later on when they do a little redemption soon. But that's where you've got to earn it, haven't you? And that's why she does it.

Yeah, but there's earning it, and then there's going a little too far where you go, I don't, even if she did, suddenly go, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo. I'm so bad, I got yes, you know. You've been denying me for two days now. I do like though how I can't use every chance he gets to annoy her with song-cather.

It sounds like someone you know, right? I cannot say. I'm right here, you know that, right? Yeah.

So you're saying your dad is like Teriacha? No, I know a few other people who like Teriacha. No, he's saying that I'm like Teriacha. It's what he really wants to say.

Right? I'm like Teriacha. That's what you're trying to say. I mean, it's fine.

That's a shoot. No, it looks. Hang on. Is there a police car?

Move it on, move it on. Alright, go on. I do think, again, though, that this is a good illustration of actors really settling into their roles from the get-go. Because what do you like the characters or not?

They feel like they've been doing this for years, don't they? Yes. Yeah, I can't agree with that. Yeah.

It's definitely a pilot gets off to a floor and say, back at the Daily Planet, cat comes on to Kent. He has X-ray vision. You know what he's doing, huh? No, no, no.

All you're doing there is throwing your own morals onto Superman. That's all you're doing. Well, Robbie Banks inappropriately using his X-ray vision. He's Superman.

He's above all that. Is he? Yes. He's baring.

Oh, you're one of those, are you? Alright, okay. So it's a lowest, you know, a date stands for up, so she needs a date for this. Plenty of leifers, blaice, and finally she has to collect to go, right?

Yes. This Percy's death at 9pm. That's late, isn't it? Being bad by Ted.

Maybe it's one of those late night parties. You know, they're going to leifers, Percy. Yeah, let's have a start. 9pm.

Ooh. Right, you're going on your own, Wolf. Yeah, you're approaching it from the standpoint of a 50-odd year old man. These are people in the 20s, God.

Do you remember that? Well, that was like, actually, think about it. We were like that then as well, weren't we? So, yeah.

No, I was clubbing to the early hours of the morning. Were you? Were you? Yeah, I was in Turkey.

We're waiting my way for you. In the Turkey. No, for all I risk is the dog coming from Wigan. The Turkey was a popular night spot with banging music.

Night spot. Wow. Alright. Night spot.

That was not a dive in any way. No, no, I'll go with it. It's fine. I like it.

Yeah. Yeah. So it really agrees, you know. It does a bit of flying around, as you said.

He flies home, right? Yeah, I like the way that flies. Okay, so let's talk about the elephant in the room. The effects aren't great.

It's not a way to talk about yourself. But they're not great, but I do like the way that the flying is approached in the fact that, you know, is that modern thing that Super Mario takes off at 100 mile an hour, any lens at 100 mile an hour? This is more like Chris Vereid, isn't it? It's kind of like graceful, and he takes off slowly.

Right. Which I always have preferred to the power drive away that Superman flies in modern fields. Well, Superman wouldn't cause a massive crater in the ground to be really lapped. Exactly.

Yeah. You know, just because, like, in case there's anyone around, he just gracefully come down and then go off. Yeah. Plus, if you fly, you know, that fast, don't you create a static boob?

Exactly. But you don't seem to do that. I think the most recent culprit for this is the, the, is it called? Superman and Lois TV show where every time he takes off, it's like bang straight up in the ground straight down onto the ground.

You know, it's like, why would you do that every single time? Yeah. Sometimes you just want to do a little backstroke. Exactly.

Exactly. I'm hoping that in the new Superman movie in a few weeks, which is why we're doing this, by the way, isn't it? We should say. We're doing a month of comic book movies.

Yeah. But he's going to be graceful and not take off at like 100 miles an hour and he's going to be more Chris Vareve-esque. How are you going to help that? I guess we'll see.

I'll actually be real, yes. When he gets home, he's ripped his jacket a bit. It's interesting that when Clark talks about electrical storm damaging his jacket, his mum says maybe he should take a different route rather than route. Always froze me off when people do that.

Why? Because Americans don't say route, they say route. Oh, right. Oh, right.

She's angled filed. She's still up straight. Maybe Martha, is it Martha? Martha.

I'd ask for confirmation. Yeah. Maybe Martha spent that weird gap year when she was a teenager in bombing around Soho and all that sort of places. In London.

Yeah, it bombed off. Because there's a solo in New York. No, no, no, no, no, no. That's why she's a climatized of these ways of speaking in a very European way.

Yeah. Maybe. I mean, we might forgive us some backstory because she hasn't got any of this. Do her parents ever get any backstory?

Erm, not really. They're just farmers who live in Sanville. I will say this is one of the few appearances where Jonathan can actually stay alive while Clark is Superman. He usually dies.

He dies in the re-movie, doesn't he? He dies in the re-movie. Does he ever have to tackle the re-movie? Yes.

He dies in Smallville. Superman returns. He dies, right? He's already dead in San Francisco.

Is he? Yeah. Is he? Yeah.

Because there's a continuation of the castener is dead? Oh, that's Manas Steel. Oh, is that? Wait, is it?

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Superman returns is the one that continues from the Christopher Reeve films. Right.

So we'll be dead though. Yep. Yeah. Erm.

Lucky. Lucky. He's also alive in this new film from the looks of it. Probably.

Maybe. Who knows? Does he survive the entire series? I think he does actually, yes.

Could you? So we have a little hat to hat, don't we? Clark, talk too far about not being able to fit in to live a normal life. I think it makes perfect sense that Clark would prefer city life.

I mean, he's a guy that can literally move at 100 miles an hour. So like living in the country, he's going to feel like he's a tortoise, isn't he? Around him, everyone's like really slow. Yeah, I guess so.

Yeah, he wants to fuck. Yeah, he wants to fuck. Yeah, he wants to fuck. Yeah, he wants to fuck.

Yeah, he wants to fuck. I don't know why that made me laugh. Just in buzzing around, yeah. Puking on people.

Puking on people. Yeah. Just sitting in shit. Oh, there's love late.

I got me for a second. Sorry. Sorry. That's right.

I do like I was slowly progressing towards Superman. It does feel organic very slowly. Very slowly. What do we have for now?

It's all very stuck to bust. Well, the show is called Lowy's and Clark. That is true. She's first and foremost.

Yeah, it's not called Superman. It's called Lowy's and Clark. No, you're right. You're right.

You're right. I am. I also liked how in the scene when he's talking to him, he like kicks that rock into the like Stratosphere or whatever. And it reminded me of the scene in Superman the movie when he's young and he kicks the football.

Oh, in space. Oh, yes. Yeah. I wonder if you kick the rock and then the rock had flown off and hit Prometheus and they're depressurised the head-side space station.

They were just stood there and all these sizes fireballed. They just got, oops. Yeah, you ain't seen me, right? Yeah.

Yeah. So we meet Lex Luthor next, don't we? Yeah, they all go to the party, right? They go to see Leafa's ball, right?

One of them. Yes. This is a more, um, the other is it? Yeah.

This is a more comic book accurate Lex Luthor than what we've seen before, especially like Gene Hackman in the Superman movie. In what way is it more comic book accurate? Because he's kind of in the comics, he's kind of like a businessman, you know, he owns all these companies and he's got fingers in lots of different pies. But he puts this front on that he's an everyman, he's for the people.

Right. He's got machinations going on behind the scenes, you know. Right. He's a successful?

Successful? Yeah. Yeah. Successful businessman.

He hasn't bankrupted everything that he's done. He hasn't. No, no, no. He's good at his job.

So, Lufe meets Lois and they have a little dance, right? Little jiggle in her way. Well, you think of John Sheer's performance is like, Lufehr? Oh, what you're going to say?

Lufehr is just going to stop at performance. Well, I don't know about that. I mean, you've got some inside information going on. He's fine.

I mean, this is a different Lex Luthor. It's not the over the top camp, Lex Luthor. Pretty much everything. I think Lex Luthor's always played over the top, and even in the new ones, he seems a little.

Oh, is he? A bit exaggerated. I mean, like, not in the new new ones, the last ones that everyone's seen. Oh, the terrible Jesse Eisenberg version of Lex Luthor.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry, it's a bit. This is the first one where he's a bit more like a businessman. Yeah, yeah, I like it.

I like it. I like it works. I think she's just decides to sneak into Luthor's office. Did she not think she might get caught?

It seems like a bad time to sneak into somebody's office. I guess she's banking on the fact that he's going to give her a pass because she's got a food, and I think she kind of knows that he kind of likes her as well, doesn't it? Oh, OK, right. She gets a bit of a pass.

Yeah. And he does turn up with an ancient side of Clerks throat. Yeah, from Alexander Gray. Yeah.

You're going to say he's fucking good. It's serious at all. It is. It's very clean and shiny.

Maybe when he meant Alexander's a great movie, the Oliver Sawn film. It's a prop. Nobody means that movie, doesn't he? Oh, well.

I was talking about that. Because I lose for as a big announcement, right? He does. He does it with a nice holographic animation effect, which I thought was really good.

It really worked. Yeah. Yeah. That's good.
