This week on the RAISE Podcast, Brent hosts KSU Foundation President and CEO, Greg Willems. Greg reflects on how his early career in cold-call sales prepared him to “just pick up the phone, keep it concise, and earn a meeting” with thousands of alums. Brent and Greg discuss the many potential distractions fundraisers face and how to tune out the noise by keeping laser focused on the “air and water.” In the case of higher ed fundraising, that means honing in on three things: 1. Getting visits. 2. Conducting visits. 3. Following up on visits . And clearing other tasks off the plate as much as possible. They also cover cultural nuances of fundraising in East Asia, earning the right to be donors’ number one philanthropic priority, and how to scale the “goosebump” impact moments that are traditionally reserved for major donors.
