156: Resilience in the Face of Adversity with Professor Payal Sharma

from BE THAT 1% Podcast · host James Silvas, Performance Coach, Speaker, and Lifestyle Entrepreneur

In today’s episode, Professor Payal Sharma joins James again on an IG LIVE as they dive into resilience, post-traumatic growth and how to take control of the narrative in our minds, especially in times of uncertainty. Now more than ever, we must root in our strength, values and responsibility. Listen in and as they talk about useful frameworks we can use to think and behave. Payal Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Management in the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She broadly studies themes such as the stress of leadership and how powerless individuals can gain access to power. A current qualitative research project explores the career experiences of video models, or women who model in hip hop and rap music videos – specifically, how can the women proactively protect themselves from workplace mistreatment behaviors such as abusive supervision, social undermining, incivility, bullying and sexual harassment? She has been an invited speaker to academic and practitioner audiences in health care, higher education, and information technology sectors, on topics including: (1) where does power come from, and how does it ebb and flow in work settings? and (2) how does finding, and living with, our values help us experience less stress and lead more meaningful lives? She is also the founder of an experiential stress management workshop for business school junior faculty held annually at the Academy of Management conference. Prior to joining UNLV, she was a visiting faculty member at the Wharton School and a standing faculty member at Rutgers Business School (Newark and New Brunswick). Her professional experience includes working for the U.S. Government Printing Office in strategic human capital and at Harvard Business School in external relations.
