TRANSCRIPT · AUTO-GENERATED

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. You're listening to the AllTalk Car podcast, hosted by Peter Ronas, part two of our SEMA special, just returned from Las Vegas, and as you're aware, I was judging on behalf of Global Media, where we got to judge new products that would work in our particular countries, and in this case, it's Australia, and at the awards night, I wasn't aware, but the category winners knew who voted for them, and they had an opportunity to come and have it chat to us, and I had some interviews. First up, we got Andy and Dave, a father and son team from Glutred, they developed a product like a sidewall, repair kit for off-road vehicles. Then we had Peter Tabarelli from Stoner Car Care, with their ceramic-coating type products.

Sarah also joined us from Adro, in relation to their front lip for Teslas, where knowledge is look good, but it creates further aerodynamic and reduces lag and drag. And also, we got Francois and Flio from Smartop from South Africa, where they developed a canopy for four rangers, and they talk a bit about their product, so here we go. G'day, we've got Andy and Dave, from basically from Glutred, just to introduce them for the gentlemen, I, as you all know, are Robert judging, and Glutred was one of the companies I nominated and picked out, so welcome, John, tell us about the product and the come about. Yeah, Peter, first of all, thank you, we really appreciate you, you know, and I'm name, that's and all that.

So the short version is, it's sidewall repair for off-road vehicles. So it's a repair that can be done in like five or 10 minutes with a pretty simple kit and a simple process. We actually do have kits available in Australia already, so we have distribution available there. Yeah, and it's a process that my dad and I came up with, literally in our garage in Ohio.

Because it's the thing, I mean, the brief that I had was a product that would work in Australia, and we do a lot of forward drive, we've got a lot of rough roads in Australia. And a sidewall damaged or tyre is pretty serious. It's almost like cactus, what's that happens? You can't repair it, when I saw a repair kit with a sidewall, I thought this would work.

Yeah, that's how it really happened. I damaged the sidewall in my tyre. It wasn't really a solution on the market. And then that's how we went about developing a kit to repair sidewall damage.

So basically, I mean, if the tyre is damaged, how is the kit, what happens? Sure, sure, so first thing you wanna do is make sure your tyre's clean, or at least the damaged area is clean. You'll sand down the damaged area, and then in our kit, you have like three main things, you have adhesive, rubber, and then a curing spray. So you'll take the adhesive, put it on the tyre, after it's sanded, you'll then apply the patch to the tyre, and then spray it with the curing spray, and then you're back on the road, and you're ready to go up, you know, and immediately after you use the spray.

But this is exclusively an exterior repair. Yes, it's from the outside. That's right. I mean, is it a temporary repair?

I mean, is the tyre still damaged? Was it enough to get you to the next quarter goal of your replacement? Yeah, yeah, great question. So, I mean, all of our marketing is stored, it's an emergency repair to get you out of trouble.

With that said, we've had people who have run several hundred miles, even over a thousand miles on one patch. So it has a lot to do with the extens, including the instructions to actually put the patch on. So there's several variables. So what do you recommend?

I mean, is it depending on the damage, or is there a sort of guide of a hundred miles, or a thousand miles, I'd call it. It just depends. And then also a factor is how much pressure you run an entire. So typically, off-road pressure is pretty low.

We rate the tyre up to 40 psi, with a quarter inch border around the damage. We do have tyres that run higher pressure, but you've got to put more border around it. Yeah, on a 60 psi, but typically off-roading your lower pressure. Yeah, you'd blow the pressure.

It's easy. Great surface area to get the grip. Yeah. Well, congratulations.

I'm glad I'll meet you guys. We go by step up in the States. Yeah, we're based on Northeast Ohio. OK.

Yep, that's where I grew up in where both of them were. So who was the bride, and who was the money? It was really. It was a little boat.

So I kind of came up with a basic idea, where I put, I made a brand new tyre, it was damaged, so I cut the tread off, and I started gluing tread on my old tyre. OK. And we created a kit, sold a couple thousand of those. But it was a good idea, but not a great idea.

So then we came up, hey, we can, this adhesive is really good, and it makes a chemical weld. We can actually hold pressure on the outside of the tyre. And then that's when the business started to explode, selling tens of thousands of kits, getting dirt reviews, and really making a splash in the sidewall repair market, which there's not, there hasn't been much innovation in entire repair. It's for decades.

You had the plugs that you jam in there. Yeah, it's always the tyre itself. A nail went through it, repair it, put the tube in, and the way you go. But sidewall, it's pretty niche.

It's pretty good. Yeah, totally. We're really excited about it. Congratulations.

Well, thank you for coming on board, and we'll catch up again in Seema, and enjoy the rest of the show and have it all go as well. Great. Thanks so much. Thank you.

Thank you. Actually, plug away. Where can people find the product? Yeah, so all our distribution is through whites in Australia right now, across Australia and New Zealand.

So there's lots of ways you can buy it online there. If you're in the US, you can buy it online on our website at glutret.com. You can also get it on Amazon, other places like that. Great.

Thank you very much. We appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you.

We've got Pete from Snow to Car Care. Hello, Peter. Here you go, mate. So basically, you're one of the finalists and one of your products I'll display.

Exactly. Tell us about it. So our new ceramic trim shine and our new ceramic-based products, we knew that there was a need for longer lasting trim restoration products, as well as hybrid detailers, things like that. So we formulate and we manufacture our own products.

We distribute them all across the globe. And one of them, of course, being through Supercheap. We love being in Australia. Yeah, exactly.

So we know that there is a need for overlanders, for guys who are beating the heck out of their jeeps. You're allowed to sway. Yeah. We knew that that's one of the things that people are needing.

So we formulate and manufacture ourselves. We came up with our own recipes. And it seems to be resonating with a lot of people to find ways to prepare, to save and protect their veal. So there's a lot of the interior.

We have a product about your e-pisteria. Mostly exterior. Mostly exterior. And they've also got the interior as well.

Yeah, so our true ceramic-based products, too. So can you do you have ceramic products, can you all need to use as well? Absolutely. Yeah, most of the ceramics, obviously, are going to make things tougher, harder.

That's great. You don't want to un-subbe that needs to maintain its suppleness, its flexibility. Yes. So rubber is not really going to be any true ceramic on that.

But I know that for me, I'm a Jeep guy. I love the fender flares on my Jeep, are great, except for the fact that they fade. So that's a problem in Australia with us on? Exactly.

Yeah. So one of our hybrid ceramic products, the hybrid ceramic trim shine on the fender flares of a JK are going to make a world of difference. And just maintaining it, bringing it back to life. And with that product, can you do it yourself?

That's the idea of it. One of the things we wanted to do is be able to make something that is idiot-proof, something that somebody can do at home, somebody in America, everybody wants to be able to work on their own cars themselves. So it doesn't make sense to have to take it to somebody else to pay somebody else to do it when you want to be able to do it in your own garage. It's catharsis to be able to work on it yourself.

Because in Australia, a lot of people are familiar with ceramic coating, so far as we're at the moment. Yeah. But a lot of people are afraid to do it their own vehicle. And it's not cheap.

It's a couple of thousands of dollars to get it done. But if you've got a product where the sort of flares and the plastic is exposed to the sun, and a lot of the color coded too, the ones that you want to have that bite at the moment, when the rest of the car looks snorpe right here, you want to be able to make a difference and make it a protected. Protect your investment. These things are not cheap.

Cheaps are not cheap. To any other those laborers, they're not cheap. So why not protect them with the best things that you have and be able to use products that you know are going to be supported. You know we're a third generation family owned company in here in the United States.

And we know that we're going to be able to stand behind everything that we need to manufacture ourselves. So we have ice down. Lancaster, Pennsylvania. And do you manufacture it in the States as well?

Formulate and manufacture everything in-house in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Great. So we're a third generation family owned company. And that's the way we've been since the very beginning.

And it's not a cocky. How long has that been in Australia for now? Snorter car care, I want to say, has been in Australia for about five to six years. So I know that they carry super cheap carries.

That now should carry our matzenbacher line of products. OK, good. And invisible glass. And invisible glass.

Invisible glass in America is not one of them in the glass cleaner for 10 years running. So you guys have it too. Yeah. Well, that's right.

Thank you for coming on. And I'm glad you're in Australia. You're in Australia. There's a lot of good product out here.

That's what same is all about. He's just the world coming together. The car world. It's seeing what's out there and getting it out there.

And it's great that Australia is supporting here and you're supporting us. And we're glad to see you guys too. We haven't seen our own sales reps. We haven't been able to see them for three plus years.

No, no, no, no. Yeah, it's out there. We're so happy we're here. Well, one of the things I wanted to do is welcome you back to it.

And Pete will catch up again. So thank you for saying we are. No worries. We're now got Sarah here from Adro.

How are you, Sarah? Yeah, thank you so much for having us. I mean, for voting as our product. It was one of the products we voted for.

What exactly is the product? So you can tell, Elissa is. Sure. So is that the recording for the product?

It's way to record again. Actually, we differentiate from other body companies is that our head of aerodynamics is actually former S1 aerodynamicist. He was the only team in the O9 of the season. So we run CFT analysis on all of our body kit.

And with what's special about the Model Y is, when we ran the CFT analysis, if you fit all of our components, we have a 4.4% reduction in drag. So that's huge compared to all the other body companies where it's more about dressing up in the car. But it's still, it's good. That's something I like about it.

It's amazing, right? It's not just a tack on product. Because, I mean, the Tesla, the Model Y, it's a pretty bland front. I mean, it's ugly.

Well, it's not ugly, but it's boring, right? But it's like everyone else's Model Y. And the reason why I liked it is one, it looked good. It looked good.

I'm going to tell you a secret. I've got a Model 3 with a carbon spoiler at the back. Can I ask which brand, the model, the splitter that you have? It was from the Tesla game.

It was from the Tesla game. But it's not that carbon look. But there's nothing at the front. And basically, your product also is effective.

It makes it more aerodynamic. And so I was quite interested in that. And basically, Tesla is kicking goals. Australia can go around the world.

So it was an interesting product. So how did you come about it? Do you manufacture other vehicles as well? It was just another product.

Well, actually, so we manufacture about, what it gets more 15 to 15 people modeled in Tesla is one of our best-selling products. But we actually got our start with KDA, because we are headquartered into our Korea. And our co-founders were actually just two buddies interacting. They loved it, but look at the racing.

They bonded. They started creating their own goods with their own cars. And that was really tough off. And people outside of Korea were asking about it.

And that's how we got to come up with that. And from KDA, to be actually expanded. Because everyone is shifting towards EV. Tesla offered us an opportunity with obviously their rather bland love to dress it up.

And also because it's electric with the aerodynamic vision. Because we wanted to add some more of the performance. That's right. It helps them as well.

I mean, you get a better product with your product on their game. I know with a lot of products in SEMA, car companies lend you their model, their basically a mock-up of what's coming out in the future for you to help design the product. Did Tesla help you in that respect or? No, it's usually one sub-product that we find friends' vehicle, where it's done to brand new stuff, and they basically report the results.

Exactly. Well, thank you for coming on. Well, thank you for having me. No, no, no, no.

And we'll catch up again. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, we've got France and Playa here from South Africa, and they're basically representing Smart Top.

Again, the brief was to pick a product that would work in Australia. That's straight away having a poor granger, which would do the job. So basically, guys, let's explain what exactly your product does. Okay, so the idea with Smart Top was let's make something else like a roof rack, but that's also a truck bed cover.

And there's a lot of truck bed covers up there that if you want your bed to be sealed, you've got to add a tonneo cover or something like that. So the Smart Top tries to do all those things at once. So it's loadable, it's got built-in T-slots, it seals your bin off, and you can open it while it's loaded. So it answers a lot of questions that guys have been wanting on, so they pick up trucks.

So on the display that you had, there were two bicycles on there. So effectively, you could use it as a tonneo cover, lift it up, and not have to take anything off it and sustain it. So what other things can you put on it as well? Like, is it adaptable?

Yeah. I mean, you have the bikes on display. So the bikes are very popular. We're very popular under the cycling community because they've transformed their bikes regularly, but I mean, we've had rooftop tent on there, the smaller platform ones.

Myself, I've had my rooftop tent on there with two bikes and some max tracks. That's the average, that's my go-to set up when I go camping. I always have my bikes with me. And being able to open the top while all of that stuff's on there is really nice.

I can access my stuff. My stuff in the back of my truck stays clean. No dust, no rain, all of that. So, yeah, it works well.

But really, it's a platform full of T-slots. So anything you can think about, anything you can mount to a group rack, you can fasten down to. So we've seen some really creative clients. I mean, every month someone sends me a photo saying, look what I did with my smart-up and I'm like, oh man, this is cool.

I need to try this. And for it to work, it's going to be within a certain weight. At the end of the day, how does that happen? Yeah, so the payload rating is 550 pounds.

And we can open it up while it's loaded. Up to about 240 pounds, but to do that you have to upgrade the gas stress. And so the product comes with the standard gas stress, which is going to lift up the lid, as well as a couple of bicycles, which is the most normal setup. And then if you want to go a little bit heavier, you just drop out the gas stress.

But back to the versatility of it. You mentioned like, what can you do with it? The reality is that the owners of the smart-off, their imagination is going to be the limit. Or what they can do with it.

Because with 17 T-slides on the top and 40 T-slides on the bottom, you can literally configure this any way you want to. And if you have boxes of different sizes, you'll be able to figure out a way to put the widgets together. And have you got the product already in Australia? Or is it about to market it now?

So we have one or two models in Australia. We have a distributor there who's just starting to play with it. The beauty of SEMA is we've had a couple of hours coming to talk to us saying they really like the product. They can see a market for it.

So we're very excited to get it in Australia. I mean, South Africa and Australia, we like the same things. We like rugby, we like outdoors. And we like our trucks, right?

And we drive on the right side of the way. We drive on the right side of the way. So we know it's going to be successful. It's just about getting it into the right hands and getting the consumer to get their hands on it and start getting creative.

Because every guy who's creative with it loads his pictures on social media and people start thinking, I've got to have that because this setup looks cool. And the next guy does a different setup. And another consumer thinks, I've got to have that. That looks cool.

So we're very excited. It's very eye-catching. We're an listeners guy, which website to see images and how it can be used. They've got a website.

Is that the best way? Sure. They can go to smart-off-platform.com. They'll see all the details there.

We'll have an Australian website down the line. But for now, that website will have everything you need to see. For answers, thank you for coming on. And good luck with it.

It's a great product. And I think it's going to do well for you guys. So thank you very much. Well, that's the end of our scene, especially.

I hope you all enjoyed it. We're going to resume back to normal transmission in the next episode or two. When the game gets back together, we talk about Vegas generally and how we went with Andrew. So again, thank you for listening.

Rate us, review us, send us your emails at alltalkout.com.au. And we'll speak again next time. Bye for now.
