You are now listening to the UK and the world's favorite wrestling podcast. R.T.M wrestling with your host Andy and Emma. Let's go to... Ooooooooh!
Ah, you tired. I am tired. I am tired because the reason why I'm not going to do this to myself is because I couldn't... I couldn't help myself, couldn't I have to listen to the wrestling observer guys doing the review a bit afterwards and I thought, I'd watch a bit of the media scrum and all that kind of shit.
I was sound asleep. You were? What have you seen it all now? Ah hah.
I haven't seen media shit but... Only nerds are going to look at that and ask me. No one else has asked about Tony Khan's 40 minute media scrum which they couldn't even get for any of these. They made right.
There's a little side note and I've got a few notes later on as well for the media scrum thing which we'll get to if we get to. But they made everybody go on specifically when they got a little staging area. I've watched Cairco's, a little bit of Jungle Boys and I've got Brit Baker's still to watch. They make everybody go on with a microphone that doesn't work.
And Jericho says, is this even working? It's really all go, no, all the journalists and he just holds it anyway. Why are you making them go on with the mic? Is it the visual?
Because you know you've not turned the fucking thing on. It's a bit weird that I know. Yeah, it's really weird. I don't know.
I don't know. But anyway, how are you doing? I'm alright. It's been a couple of days since we've done a show.
Friday was it? Yeah. Saturday. Saturday.
Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Saturday.
Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Saturday.
Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Saturday.
Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Saturday.
Saturday. Saturday. and any other kind of shows that pop up that I want to see. I kind of put them on and just have them like in the corner when I'm doing something else on the laptop or you know I'm not really paying attention to what I'm doing something else as well, I play the game or scouring for news for the show and all that crap that I do far too far too much.
But I think with specific things you can't do that all the time because you know like you guys will probably know out there, you've got a job, you can't watch 10 hours of wrestling a week unless you whack it all out on a Saturday and then you'll be sick of it by 2 o'clock. So you have to pick and choose your areas because you know watch the NXT a couple of times over the last month, I have to drop that because it was getting too much watching NXT, Dynamite and ROH and New Japan. It does get too much so I don't mind doing it for the non-paper view as shows but I think for Dynamite, and now we're adding fucking Rampage, that's another hour a few weeks ago. I think for Dynamite, I think for takeovers I think probably you know well not WWE PPV because we've got no way of watching that now.
I do not remember cancelling that network and yet I have. Yeah, I'll be surprised. I'm hoping to have but he says I've loved it and he says I've got no active subscriptions. Well that was obviously on the fight stick and then the fire stick.
I'll be getting charged. I think for the show for those shows I'd like to sit down properly watching but you can't do that with everything. So I was glad that it was on a Vancouver weekend because I did feel like I was experiencing it and obviously there's a lot of different things that kind of go into it and we'll get into that when we start going through the card. But beforehand when I was watching the buy-in for example so the first half and hour of buying was just the promo that you saw in the actual show anyway for most of the matches.
So I had the video seconds and I did feel like I was about to watch something and it was a really weird feeling because you know that the watch UFC as well and I got the same vibe from the promo for Brit Baker when she's talking about like when everyone else goes home they all go and relax. I go and do like a 10-12 hour day in a dental surgery and I go to the gym and all that kind of stuff. The way they shot it reminded me of like a UFC embedded. Yeah, yeah I think they do do that.
Yeah I think it's like a purposeful decision to do that sort of thing. But I didn't get that from any of the other ones because the others were very promo related. Like Jericho was getting interviewed, Moxington was getting interviewed, sit down and some type deals where there was a little bit of sit down interview with Sheedham, Brit Baker but not a lot. You know it was her like training and you're training for the match and then Sheedah, training for the match on the beach and all that kind of stuff which the don't really show I think correctly if I'm wrong guys but they don't show that on the male side.
And now I think about it they do that all the time for female wrestling matches. The promo is in the vignettes, I've been training and I've been like yeah and it's like that. It's an interesting decision man. So not that he matters.
But I prefer that trait, you know that's kind of what I'm saying is that training side of it got me into it and I'm like I feel like I feel like I'm about to see something important which is obviously what they want you to feel like. I know it's easy to not feel like that especially from watching other shows but I liked the fact that I knew I was going to be off today and I could just watch it live and it didn't matter how tired I was the day after it didn't matter how many hours I had sleep. I can get an early night tonight I'll be fine for the week. Yeah.
I didn't watch the volume. No. Because I was having a disco now. You had a little nap?
Yeah which was good. Yeah and I got back up for the start of the show. So I didn't see deep. Deep and real.
Yeah I didn't see that much. No should we get started? Let's do it. Hello everyone and welcome once again this is RTM wrestling episode 159 if you can believe it 159.
But nothing I'm sure will come up with a bit of title in that show as we normally do but that's the working title at this point. Hope you're all well, hope you're all safe, hope you're all on the list at the very least to get your vaccinations as we said on Friday we've had our first one. I'm sorry. Bit of an amount for a bit.
I had a bit of a five hour power nap but more than that. Sorry. I've not grown a second head. Both of us felt sick though on Sunday even though we both at completely different food the day before but all day we felt really queasy and sick which is quite strange because we had our vaccine on the Thursday.
So far on Friday Saturday but I felt absolutely fine pretty much Saturday and then Sunday. Sick. Do you think that was the vaccine or do you think it was because of weather? Well it was pretty warm.
Because we've had our day two of the British summertime and it's absolutely roasting. Yeah it's so hot. I think it was a bit of that. I feel queasy.
I think it was a bit of that. I don't feel very well in the warm. No I don't either. I feel like I could do.
I don't know when it's freezing or it's pissing down. I go I just want to be on a beach somewhere with a nice little drink and boiling hot bit of spit. See there in reality I think I get boiled up very quickly. I just find being too hot and incredibly uncomfortable.
I feel better in the cold. It's the Polish board. Don't forget to bring it to the beach over there. That's why we decided to go to places like Boston in January.
Oh yeah. I don't want to get a give me a let it go to Boston. I know what you're doing. I know what you're doing.
I know what you're doing. I know what you're doing. Absolutely. I think just as a quick side note to you and it will become clear later.
I think it was Boston. It wouldn't be a conversation. Absolutely not. No.
No far away is it. You know it's his coast. We'll get to it. We'll get to it.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed doubling off in last night. I hope if you didn't enjoy it that you enjoy the next WWE show or whatever it is that you watch. But yeah, I've said a tweet I was only like an hour ago. So I'm going to get a couple responses.
I did a poll as well. A poll I'll say to the end if I remember if not I'll say on the next show. And let's start with sweets shall we? So we go to at Axel Underscore.
JMO. Congratulations Axel on the Chelsea win as well. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
That's good. You're actually getting un-banned from Twitter because you were saying that hate speech. You're dead. You're dead to dream.
Dead to dream. Dead to dream. Dead to dream. And you got banned from Twitter.
Honestly, that's the funniest thing I've seen here. I'm going to do you, because I've been cocked out. So he at the moment hates speech using that UEFA Champions League hashtag. But he said it was a really good show.
I like the books and Omega matches the best. Thought Christian would win when it comes to the battle casino battle royale. But when you hear how the crowd reacted to Jungle Boy, even I was saying they should call an audible here and let a jungle boy win if he isn't already. That's exactly why I said it.
I was like, if Jungle Boy ain't winning this, and we'll get to the reasons why you're saying about calling an audible Axel. Because I'm sure you probably have a different mindset, but I know why I was worried. And we'll get into that. Crowd makes AW even more enjoyable to watch.
And he's replied as well saying, yes, sexy's okay. But if you've ever sung Jungle Boy, have you ever sung Jungle Boy's music in time of the live ground? I don't know if I quite agree with that. I'm going to say that.
And he's always saying that because I'm right here. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Happy wife, happy life and all that.
We got at Ollie Pod, who's obviously our favorite wrestling podcast as well from across the pond. They put We Love RTM as much as Double and Nothing Last Night at 10 Out of 10. There's not many things in this world where you can guarantee a reciprocal love, but you've got it with us guys. And then the host of that show, one of the hosts, at Real Kyle Masters on Twitter, going following.
And so this is one of the best flowed pay per views I've watched in a very long time. The crowd back helps so much AW truly needed this. Favorite matches were Hangman and Cage, Brit vs Sheida and Acapack and Orange Cassidy. And he also said, did you see New Japan and Sony can't talk and they love this promo script between WWE and that can?
Yes, I did. But after you told me because I went and found it, I was actually watching the Tony Can press conference when this tweet came in and hadn't got to that bit yet. So just to shoehorn this in now, anybody who didn't listen to listen on Friday, there was a bit, there could have been tears on Friday. I'm not saying there was.
I'm not saying there was. But there could have been tears on Friday with that WWE New Japan announcement. Tony Khan said in this post match, Scrum, that was literally like, I think one of the first questions he was asked. Why did you do the promo?
And that's literally how it was asked. It's like you motherfucker. Why are you stood there being a dick? That's what I would have said.
But that's why I'm not running a multi-million dollar company. But he said, well, I cleared it with New Japan. They thought it was cool. I thought it was cool.
They're free. I thought the most interesting part of that he said was they're free to talk to whoever they want. And paraphrasing there. But he said they're free to talk to anyone, but hopefully we're going to keep working with them.
I've got things agreed with them. Whatever. Yeah. Which thought it was cool.
And also, Axlejemo, that was a giffer sting. He liked him. So I'll save the poll for later. I think when I last checked it, it will give everyone a time to percolate.
It gives a few people who didn't like the show. Wants to chime in as well. Because it might be a bit of a love in this, apart from one match, which you can probably guess because it was a match we didn't like going into it. But start with the buy-ins.
The video packages are fantastic. I was pretty up for Siree Debrio going in because they did it on the women's title tournament that they did. It was dead weird because Dynamite was technically the first wrestling show back with that kind of crowd. But it felt like this was the first match I was watching with that crowd.
Right, okay. Which was an odd feeling because obviously we watched it two hours Dynamite on Friday. But I don't remember any of the matches. There was a lot of talking segments and there were a few like the Dabia and all that kind of shit.
But this felt like the first one with a paper view quality crowd. And it was awesome. I thought the best women's match on the show. As far as like crowd reaction and stuff like that, you can't take it away from the one later.
But I thought this was the best female match on the show. It was one of the best matches on the show. I would put it up probably in my second. And maybe that's a bit of the crowd influence because it was like the first one that we're getting.
I know the other, I think on Dynamite, I think they taped the elevation and dark and stuff. So I don't think they did anything on this one. But it was amazing. The turns sereneed in the deep heel kind of halfway through.
But it didn't matter. Both of them were still getting shed out of the building really slick, really quick sereneed de-retained which I thought she would do. So the paper view starts properly. Hangman page against Brian Cage.
Do we go? Yes, I will. So I'm back in the game at this point after my disc going on. And to start with, I've got to say I was a little bit disappointed that the crowd didn't react more to Brian Cage when he came out.
They're a bit flat for him. And I know he's the heel and I know he's going to get a monster face. But the lack of reaction of what was really disappointing, I thought they'd at least boo him loads. Or give him a bit of a cheer just because he's like the first out and he's a monster.
You don't see many people like him come around very often in wrestling. You can do what he does. So I was a bit sad for him actually. I know that sounds a bit like going on the negative.
Especially because he dressed up his little robot outfit as well. It also made it sadder. Do you know what I mean? And then obviously Hangman comes out and the crowd goes absolutely fucking wild for him, which I expected he would.
Because he's one of those perennial favourites in it. You know, get a beer in someone's hand and they're going to be favourite. And he's great. But I do think the match went on.
It was so good that I think called Brian ended up getting over, even though you're not supposed to cheer for him, I do think the crowd ended up a little bit more asked about him being there. And it was just electric. I can't really talk about wrestling. I'll go through that side.
I've only got a couple of notes. In terms of the first pay-per-view crowd match, I thought it was really good. It got going. It was exciting.
It was mad off the back. So yeah, I picked up on the same thing with Cage. My kind of thought to start with is because when I was watching the buy-in, they do the every time with AW and the, I don't know if they used to do it with AW or not, they kind of announced JR as a crowd beforehand. So he gets a chance to get a bit of a pop.
He gets the crowd going. He sits down and goes, here we go guys. Let's go. Let's go.
And then off we go. But they did that as well. But we're tas. And I was like, okay.
And when tas is like music hit or something, the announced tas and he kind of did a little away from the commentary position, I was like, it took me a while to think, oh, Cage versus Paige is first. Like he took me a little while. So I don't know if that was a little bit apart of it. Because I think if that first lot of we've talked about this on numerous shows with numerous other companies and all that kind of stuff is the hold that first walkout in quite high So I think if I was being picky, I would have swapped it and Paige should have come out first.
I know then, you know, there's all the, because that works in two ways, because normally it's the favourite who comes out second. You know, in combat sports, it's the favourite that comes out second. So in this situation, Cage is coming off a win over Hangman. He should be the favourite.
So we should come out second. So I think to send Cage out first, I think it was a mistake because he should have sent Paige out first because the place would have gone just as bad shit because I don't think you could get, you could have him going any more than they were. And then he's out there and then everybody knows right, this is the match. And they're not going what?
Why is this the first, because it wasn't our choice for the first match. So we should have asked, if we're going with Hangman Page and Brian Cage first, his music should have been the first we heard. And then that massive crowd reaction. But that's a very, very small.
Oh yeah, yeah. I've got quite a few little small nips, you know what I mean? Don't take a lot. But yeah, the match was fantastic.
It got going from the first second the bell rang, the big fucking moves. Cage again, you probably say, give me a say, but he's so safe with every finny fucking door. He's safe. I think he's great.
And then the whole kind of crux of it was Cage refusing help from Hawk and Starks. And I thought it was funny how that Starks are pointing out his neck. Like, when I was in Jada Ninja, then he just pushed his hook to walk afterwards. Yeah, it was tough and it seemed like it was over in a flash and it was a reasonably long match.
But the distraction kind of led to Hangman hitting the book shot. But yeah, what a way to open it. What a way to open it. So next, and if I'm being picky, probably would have put this one on first.
I was going to say, yeah, 100% of what this one on first. Yeah, I think if you were going to, because then- I would have literally just switched those two around. That's it. I would have changed anything.
I don't think. I would have probably put a different match on the pre-show than David. Oh, absolutely. It was a clanger of the night.
Like, for me, I'm going to say clanger. I have a clanger of the night for all shows. I'm going to call that segment, Jim's clanger of the night. Jim's clanger.
That's not very good. I don't know why. I don't think- I don't think- I don't think- I don't think- she's talking about a ranch. I don't think anybody would have put that.
I don't know. It was just- it's just like- I don't know. It's just the way you said Jim's clanger. It just sounded a bit like- Yeah.
I was trying to think like- nobody would put two and two together with clanger, but then when you said Jim's clanger- Yeah, it was the way he said it was like- It's like one of those shit roadside cafes. It's like Jim's bangers or something like that. And then she'd be like, you're like, you're not quite- you want sausage and egg? I'm not sausage and egg fat.
Listen, this chair, I know- I've heard it back on the podcast. It does sound like I'm letting out rippling farts every time I move. I did show you. It is a creaky chair.
I'm sure it's not. Not me not fast. Not I assure you. It's not the chair.
I assure you she's like- No, I'm not joking. Okay, the clanger of the night will call it. We'll see you in a minute. And we'll get to it later.
But yeah, I would have swapped these two over. And I think we have been given a bit of shit to this wild thing. Yeah. Because it's- let's face it.
It's a bit shit. Let's be honest. It's a bit shit. However, when- obviously, Mox and King's subverses young boxes next much.
When Mox came out and Kingston came out and that song was playing and the first walked out, he said, out loud, holy shit. Because the crowd were going fucking nuts. That song was going. Kingston's swinging the shoes round, he said.
Mox, they look like he was- he'd done a line on the floor and then he was losing his fucking mind. He threw a chair and it was way too close to a couple of people that were like still there in the crowd. The way that Kingston had to tell him where to go is obviously overshot there. But he was pissing himself about it.
It's so funny. It seemed in a situation like that, Mox, as I've had many of those moments over the years, where he's come out to a massive chair and just an AW alone. His debut was massive. It seemed like him who needed carving down.
Kingston was like- Yeah, he was fine. Kingston was fine. I think it's just overwhelming. The ball performed in front of huge crowds and all that.
There was obviously the go home show on Friday. But there's nothing like that. It's been like a year over a year of nothing and just performing to the role the team makes. I don't know.
It changes everything. It changes everything. It changes who does go over. It changes everything and having people there.
If you want to have a happy ending, if you want to have the booze. So it must be very overwhelming. And a lot of them did look very overwhelming. Yeah.
We'll get to one of those later, which was built setting really, just to see. But he was in a good way. He kind of shocks me a little bit. I was like, oh, fuck.
Anyway, yeah, Young Books vs. Mox and Kingston was ridiculous. And I said this beforehand. We're looking forward to it.
I've said for a couple of weeks now, I don't want to see. And the asshole in me was like, you know, I want to see the IWGP, US Heavyweight title, being defended on the show. And the other side to me was like, well, the styles aren't, you know, I'm not getting a Lucha Brothers vs. Young Books style match, which is obviously 5,000.
But in its own way, it was brilliant. I think the Young Books's heel shit is annoying. But they always kind of do it for a reason. Like they're not doing the, you know, the cocky.
All these guys are just complete tits. I'm just acting like complete morons. And we'll get on to Nick's hair in a second. But they do it to then let the face team in Barrazzum or do something.
So it's not just, you know, they're doing it and then squash somebody. They might do that on dark or elevation or something like that. But it's there for a reason. They're not doing it just for the sake of doing it, which is, I think is what the brush that gets hard with, the brush Kenny gets tired of as well, because of the stupid antics and people don't like the stupid antics, but it is there for a reason.
But you guys will listen to us regularly. You know what I'm honestly fond of them as characters, but the end-ring stuff is, you know, far superior and beyond anything. But the young box as heels is better than face, I think. But yeah, the match itself was just awesome.
I can't really remember too many spots apart from the ending. Oh yeah, that's why I got these self-notes. I can't remember that much. I know there were some really great spots in it though.
Yeah, there was, hopefully I've written some down, but who knows? So Nick Jackson, Foxy Dunsby's hair. I couldn't really suss that out. Do you know what was a little bit familiar about it though?
The hair or the? The hair, the hair. It reminds me of what the weird thing that Jericho is doing with his hair. It was almost the same colour as well as Jericho's hair.
Really? Of course not, or in the more ginger. Jericho kind of like, he's obviously got a receding hairline that he's obviously very paranoid about, hence that weird colouring thing. But I do think he cools in his hair in some weird way, because it looks really, the colour is just really odd.
And it's the same with that guy, Matt. Nick, Nick, Foxy. It was the same with Nick. Like, his hair kind of gave me that Jericho, that weird, like, almost like mucky-like greenish vibe, like some weird spray or something.
And then I mad just for men, dark as fuck a beard. Yeah, where the hell's that cool? Like, he put it again, he looked so, because I was sort of thinking like, because obviously they looked very different, even though the brothers, you know, bought with the beards, they looked very similar. Yeah, definitely.
So we should have died his hair black. Yeah, I know, it was a really odd, I don't quite know, but it did give me that Jericho feel. So they have like, pocket rocket on their trousers. I thought that was really funny, like, pocket rocket, that makes me think they're about 5'1".
Makes me think they listened to this show. But we listened to all the episodes and they were really- The pocket rocket, yeah. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know, but it would look funny. And I think that's the reason for you to look at anything, like, foxy-dunteries earlier, and then you'd be moving on.
Yeah, it was awesome, it started off absolutely up to 11. Like, you couldn't catch your breath in the first 5 minutes. They were all over the place, they were doing all sorts of shit, and then it kind of slowed down a little bit, which I was thankful for, because otherwise I would have had a heart attack. But the good brothers come out straight away, like, well not straight away, but maybe like halfway through.
They try and get involved, Mox and Kingston fight them off, and then Frankie Cizzarian comes out and attacks Anderson. And I thought what was really interesting is what Chivani called Cizzarian, the elite hunter. So obviously that's going to be a thing of his own now that he's on his own. But for all that was a nice little tease.
So is he just going to be going for him, which is brilliant. And you know, he's done the thing on being the elite where he's got anger management issues, so he can just pop up and just beat the fuck out of somebody and into the back he'd go. But then after that, it was amazing tag team, match tons of hot tags and then cut offs. Young books did a spot where they were mocking the shield, which I was pissing myself at.
The only bit that I don't like, and again, I know it's this kind of counter in what I just said. I hate the fake hot tag spot. And I know that I've just explained to you why they do it, but I hate it. I get really cringe vibes from it.
So it's when Matt goes into the opposite corner and pretends to do a hot tag for the face. So he goes into the face his corner and he's done it like three or four times. He's doing Dragon Gate and he's doing Nijpan and Araway, which I've seen it many times. And I hate it every single time where he gets out onto the ring-gaper and pretends to tag himself in off Kingston.
And he does the hooking up and he's trying to get the crowd going and then he tags Kingston's back and in the ring he goes. And he's hooking up and one close line, guy gets up, two close line. It's too much for me. It's like when you watch it, when we're watching the sunlight, and it just tips me over so I can't watch it.
I do know what I've never even noticed, it doesn't sound out to me at all. It makes me back itch. I don't even think I'm quite sure what you're talking about. So when you've got a face and heel team, the heels work over one face for 90% of the match.
And then the face on the outside is trying to get the crowd going to get the hot tag. He's like, come on, the crowd getting to it and he's reaching out, he's reaching out. Matt Jackson does that to take the piss out of the face team. And he stands on the apron and he does all this and he puts his arm out as Kingston's like crawling towards the corner.
And he tags himself in and he's basically taking the piss. Right, okay. Well, they've done it in the last three matches. Okay, never even us.
But yeah, I've got it next to me back itch. But I've told you why, I don't understand why, but if it was me, I'd just cut that bit out of it. But that's just me. I know a lot of people, I'm definitely in the minority on that one.
So the finish was Mox getting hit with multiple BT triggers, which I thought was awesome. That was really cool. The one bit that I didn't understand, because all the way through it, because I mean from my point of view, and again, we're going to talk about this kind of mindset later from the multiple years of watching WWE and knowing what's going to happen before it even happens, because of the way they set something up like Kingston's title switch at Mania against Daniel Bryan, we saw the table with the new belt. So we knew Kingston was going to win.
So when they came out with those shoes, I thought, right, they're going to take the shoes back. They're going to grab them shoes, and that's going to be the final shot of this match, is one arm holding up a tag team title to help the other arm holding up a shoe. So they bring out these shoes, they beat Mox and Kingston, and they forget the shoes. I was like, why aren't they grabbing the shoes?
Because the whole thing was, and I did love it in the video package when Matt says, only 2000 of those were made. I've looked on StockX, Google it, you're marks, like because of the proper rare shoes. I thought it was weird how they didn't go and grab the shoes, because they were there on the corner, I think, to be grabbed. Obviously, they've just been through a hard match, and the good ones came out of that kind of stuff.
Yeah, I thought the match was amazing. Me too. Yep. Casino power oil.
Oh yes. I have got a couple of things to this that I think is bad, but we'll kind of go through it as we go through it. So the first, I kind of, forgive me, I'm not going through everybody that's in it, I'm not telling which, you know, fucking symbol came out wearing or anything like that, because it's just, I listened to one of those last night and he just bored me to tears, so I kind of deleted what I'd written. Mox Castor came out with the first group though.
He, here I was welcome when he walked out, which is brilliant. He did a fully wrap, but I thought he reigned it in, I thought he could have gone further, but obviously the main point of it is him saying, you were only good, like it's Christian, you were only good when you had an inch. And then the camera cuts to Christian and he's talking to somebody in the ring and he's just, you can see him out and use that. You know, it's a good story.
So first thing I think is a mistake. And they've done this a couple of times, and I've seen the same things happen now three times, because of this. Whenever they do one of these battle royals, they put a clock up. Don't put a clock up.
The Royal Rumble, they say to you, it's every 90 seconds somebody comes in, but it's not. If you actually go in time, sometimes it's 90 seconds, sometimes it's five minutes. What once, I think at last year, or last year, the latter Royal Rumble, it was eight minutes. That's insane.
So you can get all the spots in, but you don't notice it because you're watching spots. Yeah, sure. And there's any people have entrances that take ages to get to the ring. So by that point, you might have wasted like a minute, but you don't notice because they're walking in or something's happening on the get caught on the outside.
Definitely. But yeah, I completely agree with you. It's unnecessary pressure. And that's exactly it, because it was a few times, even with this one, they rushed something.
Yeah. Like, I think it was the first, or the second group that came in when the, the, the, the, the, the suit came up for the next guys. You know, three people got eliminated. And the reason why those three people got eliminated is because they ran out of time because you, because what I think one of them was Brian Pillman Jr.
And he was getting cheered. You know, the crowd were like massively behind him because I put like stars of this match with Spencer, Jungle Boy, Christian, Brian Pillman, Jr. and Evil Uno. Brian Pillman Jr.
And even Evil Uno got eliminated relatively quickly after coming in. But in a rush because the next guys were coming out and it's like, just take that fucking clock off. You might go over by a minute. That's it.
Just needed an extra 30 seconds in some of those spots. But anyway, so the joke I got for this was Leo Rush, which I was massively surprised with. Pleasantly surprised, actually. And he came in and did some magic.
He botched a lot of shit, but it doesn't matter. In my opinion, doesn't matter. He was watching stuff with pretty much left right and center. But there was a lot of very quick evasive movements that I would love to see on there.
I mean, obviously he's on each one strong and he's doing each pan. So Tony Khan said he's not signed. He's got a handshake with him. But when he's free, he can come in.
Yeah, that's good. That's the kind of agreement she wants to see more of really rather than like that signed. And then you think he did it fit. It's nice to just have the door open so people can just come and go.
That's what I want to see more of. Yeah, definitely. I don't necessarily want to be like, this doesn't all at least. Yeah.
It's like a, I just don't, it's not necessary. It's unnecessary. Like the people can have like moments or a few weeks and then bugger off and then come back and it just makes it more entertaining like very show then. I mean, you don't have to push everybody.
There's not this like massive pressure. What they're going to do with him. Well, no, there'll be news probably. It's like, well, you know, more people will just guess that.
We don't give a shit about that. Yeah, definitely. Can you whatever, can't they? It's cool to just come in and out.
Because that's the thing is all that I like about Neutron Strong is the go in and the other match and they do what they do in that match. And yeah, Rush was in the stronger open way title tournament. But he didn't win. But then he's not been on the show again for a little bit.
But then he can come back in and face a rocky remiro. And it's a great moment. If the doors are open for all these wrestlers, the freedom is great. You're never going to be without work.
And you don't need to be pushed down people's throats in a certain company. You can go when it's ready, when it's time, you just move on to the next place. And I just think it's about how it used to work, that back in the day. Yeah, so it makes sense.
I do have a slight thing that I would change about that match format. It's a very small thing. However, when the time runs out and the card comes up, it's so quiet. I could do with like a noise, you know, like we have a, not that.
But something like casino related noise, I don't know what it's got silent and the card just flips and it's silent. It's really fucking, it's like someone just pressing you and forgot to put the sound on. Because it doesn't have to be a prolonged piece of music that's going to cut into the rest of the coming out. It just needs to be a really nice thing like that.
You know what would be cool? I know it isn't the right sort of thing, but it doesn't have to be. So it could be a one-hour monday noise. Do you want any slight, the wheels spinning?
Or the sound of the card shuffler even. And then just a noise of it coming out. I thought it was just so fucking quiet. It takes ages because it's really fucking awkward and weird.
Because it must culminate in a bit of excitement as to who's next, what team's next. And to just have silence I think is a bit of a mistake, kind of a missed opportunity. And it's tough as well because there isn't any excitement for who's coming next. Because the I've kind of ditched it.
So the way they used to do it, and the way I've seen it in the past, is these says diamonds. All the diamonds run out at once. Apart from, there was like one per suit that got an entrance. So I think hang my mind in the Joker one, but I'll use him as an example just to a second argument.
All the diamonds run out and hang on his music hits and he comes out slightly behind the others. So he gets an entrance. And that's how they used to do it. Now they're doing it like a Royal Rumble.
But they're in albums, you know, it's like music hit. They come in hit a few spots. Music hits, hit a few spots. So I don't think they've quite hit the sweet spot.
Yeah, they're still working on it out. They're still holding it a little bit. But I think what I would do is I would say, something as easy as, you know, because they obviously want to do, it's basically a Royal Rumble type format, but they want to do it differently so it can't be, you know, you don't get to lose. You mean that.
But the only difference that I would make to that part of the format is it's diamonds. And then, because Justin Roberts is like talking through the rules, you know, I know we put it in Room 101, but it's not going anywhere. For some reason, they love to fucking, for five minutes, talk to you what the rules are of a match. Even though we all know, we know it's a battle royal, we know the last person over the top is the person in the ring is the winner.
That's all I need to know. Don't give a shit about these diamonds fades. So what they should say when they're over engineering what the match is, is the diamonds are first and then they picked from one to nine or from one to six or what I would do isn't a one, but like two to seven or something like that. And whoever got the two without first, and then it's three, four, five, six, seven.
And that's the way they should do it because then it's a Royal Rumble format, but nobody knows about it's an island. But yeah, I still thought the match was awesome. Like it was really fun. Obviously the ending which we'll get to in a second was great.
But yeah, there's a few things with that that we just need to tweak a little bit. It's not quite there. No, it's not slick enough. So yeah, so the ending.
Final three, Matt Hardy, Jungle Boy and Christian. Matt Hardy tries to get Christian to join him to help him eliminate Jungle Boy. Probably a bad decision now Christian, but he turns on him throws him out the crowd go mad, so that was top. And then we get Christian and Jungle Boy.
And this is what I was talking about before. So Axel, you know, saying about all this should go to the Lordable if he hadn't done. You get this weird feeling because you've watched so much WWE that you're not allowed nice things. And this isn't, you know, if you enjoy WWE, then I'm not, I'm not trying to be that dick and tell you you're wrong or anything like that because you're not wrong because you enjoyed WWE.
That's your thing. Me personally, the reason why I've stopped watching it can be summed up in one face when it resonates on you. And that, you know, the booking decisions, you know, from outside, I don't, I know what I like and what I don't like. And you can say a show is really poorly booked and all that kind of stuff.
But I can't say as a person, even if that's done this podcast for years and has watched wrestling for years, I'm not in a position to say that Raw is poorly booked. I can say it's a crap show, but I can say it's poorly booked because I don't know what the fuck are you, what the fuck are you, book a show? I've got no idea. Are you book a show?
I can say it's badly done. I can say this show was shit, but I can't elaborate any further than that because I don't know the technical ins and outs and we don't know why they're doing it and all this kind of stuff. But WWE in its major moments over, you know, since WrestleMania 30, everything's got to be a heel screw job. The crowd are getting fucked out or something.
And we're so conditioned to thinking that way that I instantly, like Axel did, went to that place and went, the crowd ain't going to like this when Christian wins. And we're kind of looking at it because I picked Christian to win to start with. But in a WWE world, that's exactly how they would book it. WWE would book a reasonably strong face and they'd be in at the end against the reasonably strong face.
But in that situation, Roman Reigns and the crowd are putting the fuck out of him. So Jungle Boy is so cheered and beloved in this match and he's getting cheered. You know, he does that mad swing around the post. Oh my God, that was a hairy moment.
That could go so badly wrong. That could have gone so badly wrong. He just flew off. It was a bit like hangman Pej Swett on from when Cage like dumped it on.
I was thinking, imagine if you would have skid it off. It would have just had to have been like, Christian, just like, yay, I win. I kind of won. I mean, he's a little lucky looking out with his hands so he's for it.
But yeah, the crowd was so old for Jungle Boy, winning this. And I just saw, fuck, Christian's going to win. Christian's going to win this and the crowd are going to turn. You didn't though.
But at the time, I said Jungle Boy should win. You said to me, Christian's going to do the job for him. Yeah, that was in part hope. Yeah, you're like, he's going to do the job for him.
And I was like, do you really think so? You have faith. Because it was AEW. Yeah, you have faith at that point.
If it was WWE, Christian wouldn't have just gone over. Well, he would have gone over. There would have been no swing around the post spot. There would have done the thing with Matt Hardy getting pop out the crowd and he would just fucking front-kicks into the door and Jungle Boy would have just gone fly out the ring.
Well, that's the thing. I think we'll talk about this more later on as well. You are conditioned to expect to be fucked out of something. Yeah.
Because from the way they put that match together, Jungle Boy was the one who was getting put over. Christian was on the outside for fucking 15 minutes with Hobbes. I think they were having a game of fucking poker or something on the outside, just having to chill out. Don't know where the fuck them two bastards went.
Oh no. But like Jungle Boy was in there pretty much the whole time from when he entered and was doing all mad spots and all that kind of stuff. The crowd was so firmly behind Jungle Boy that he had to win. And I think now I need to start trusting him.
Yeah. That we'll do the right thing. There's very rarely a screwy finish. Again, we'll get to it.
But there's very rare at a time when you don't get an actual finish to a match. Whereas Raw, every single match near an office of DQ or a shitty roll-up or some stupid fucking finish where or a disqualification in a tag match when the second person comes in and starts attacking which happens all the time, there's always some bullshit. Like look at WrestleMania. There was one match that stands out as really good from both nights.
I think they're on separate nights. Again, correct me from wrong people. But Bianca Sasha and Cesaro Rollins. Yeah.
They were the matches that didn't have bullshit finishes or weird goo coming out of somebody's head or fucking somebody getting involved. And the fact that one fucking face won pretty much per night, it makes everybody fucking boo. That's why at WrestleMania, I've seen a few people kind of tweeting saying about the crowd and how amazing the crowds were on the show. Oh, but WrestleMania had an extra 6,000 people in per night or they say what WWE wants them to say and they say there was actually an extra 15,000 people per night, which there wasn't.
There was 11,000 on the first night, it was 14,000 on the second night. Well, that's all the tickets that they put on sale. So I don't know why they don't just say it's a sell out with that. Who knows?
It's 25 and I get a grip. But most of those matches, the crowd were booing. You know, so it's not even- Or worse, they were fairly indifferent. The sat on their hands.
Yeah, because of shit. Because booing is not great, but at least you get in a reaction. But a lot of, you know, having a drink everybody, having been at Mania where Reigns worn over Undertaker, it was only when he came out on Raw and got booed solidly for like 20 minutes. Like at the end of Mania, everyone was so like after all that time- It deflated.
So deflated. It couldn't even muster up to boo the guy really. It was just a honest to God. If you were to have been where we were sat, while Reigns is stitched on the ramp and the fireworks going off, everybody's timing out at that point.
Like people were leaving. Like it wasn't a case of- It was standing there and enjoying booing, which is what it's all about. They were leaving and everyone was tired and just like, oh, of course he's won. It wasn't like a reaction that you ever should won out of wrestling fans.
You should never want them to just go, oh fuck's sake, man, and walk away. Like you at least want them to be booing to the point where they're almost going to kill the person. Or almost crying because they're so happy. And anything in between you fucked it.
And it ruined the ending to me because after Reigns walked off, wanted to take it to his fake retirement. And people walking out and out. People were walking out and out. People were going like it was gone, the show was over.
Yeah, definitely. But we didn't get that with this one, Jungle Boy one. Yeah, it was great. Which is exactly what should have happened.
And Christian stayed around later after Mark of Sundon and Luchisaurus came out and the crowd was singing along with his song again. It was really good. But Christian slapped him on the chest and goes, go and get that belt. The frustrating thing about that is we ain't getting a program now between Jungle Boy and Kenny Omega.
We're getting on a dynamite in two weeks. So that's the frustrating thing because that was a big moment. And Jungle Boy's had a few of these big moments where he's kind of given opportunity and comes up short. And I know he's young and all that kind of stuff.
But I would have liked to have seen now Jungle Boy going to a program with Omega. Because he's not going to have anything with Moxley. Maybe he will. Maybe he will just go about some Moxley Kingston for the next pay-per-view.
I know it's so far away. And they can't do it on the next pay-per-view with the Jungle Boy much because it's far too far away. But in a month's time they can have a five-per-fall and whatever it is that it's going to be. I'm sure five-per-fall and next.
Because we kind of been in sweet 12 months now because we've done it for last year, what was the first one we watched properly. So yeah, there's going to be another show like that. Do it on that show. Make it seem like it's a bit more.
So the fact that it's not dynamite and you know he's going to win anyway. But maybe he wouldn't. That's the second thing. Yeah, I think it was a longer program.
You'd be going all the time. Yeah, yeah. If there's actual promo going into it, the building Jungle Boy up to be this like underdog which they will do. And they'll do a good job of doing it.
Okay, so here's where we had a bit of a slump. So we got a pro-military US segment because it's been more on a day weekend and the crowd are relatively into that. This led into Cody vs. Anthony Egogo.
Now this is the one that I would have put on the buy-in. Clunga of the night. It's my clunga of the night this much. Yeah, and there's a couple of pros and a couple of cons for me.
Do you want to go first or? Because I'm kind of sore for a little bit. Yeah, I will do. I think what became, I don't think the match was that bad actually and I thought Anthony Egogogo was, I was a bit worried when he first started doing the punching because it's going to be over really fast.
He's going to get out wrestled which obviously he did but it was better. It was a reasonable match. It wasn't a better match but it was fine. I think what, I just found that Cody went in so hard on the pro-America thing and it was Memorial Day weekend and there was that thing before.
And I think the expectation was that the crowd were going to be on fire for Cody. They were de-greeting him, they de-greeted him but it wasn't that. I think the expectation was it was going to blow the place up. Everyone's going to be chanting USA really fucking loud.
It's going to be super overwhelming. They're going to be chanting USA all the way through the match which tends to happen with ones like this that have done well. And that was, I found that, and this sounds a bit dramatic, I'm kind of a bit uncomfortable to watch because it wasn't quite as over as it should have been. And I think there's a lot of elements that have gone into that.
