16. Why societal ideals of health and beauty influence your food behaviours and self-worth.
from One For The Honey Podcast · host Emily Rault
Hi there honey! This week I am feeling extra sassy. Mostly because I have a lot of thoughts around this particular topic. There is a space for all foods in our diet. It is my current standing perspective, that actually, food it's self it not necessarily the problem when it comes to health. Weird right? Yet, I have come to realise for majority of my clients, audience, family, friends and the general population, nutrition isn't the core problem. I don't even align with the definition of "health". Wild, considering I am a "health professional". I strongly believe we all have a very unique blue print that makes up our health. With 100s of variables and contributions over time. So Em, what is the problem? Societal ideas of beauty and health have significantly impacted generations of people and the way they see themselves. How you feel you "should" or "shouldn't" eat, look, weigh and exercise. Today, social media is amplifying these beliefs, unrealistic perfection promoted with filters, angles, lighting, make up and photoshop. Comparison, we are even sub-consciously chasing the perfect house, car, morning routine, aesthetically pleasing breakfast, perfect relationship, trending clothes and the list is endless. We never feel that we have "enough" or that we are doing "enough" to be seen as "enough". News flash - YOU ARE ENOUGH. Right here, Right Now! None of this is realistic. Not even for the people pretending to live these lives. Or promoting quick fix "healthy" products, diets and meal plans. Behind closed doors, there are many realistic aspects of health that need to be explored. Find what is sustainable and unique to you. This week, I am going to tell you why.
