Tony has had great achievements in leadership and academics, but remains a genuinely down-to-earth person who is very curious about the world and its people. In our discussion, we dive deeply into early days in Tony’s academic life, his trajectory into leadership, and his core belief that having a broad world view is essential, regardless of one’s chosen field of study or career. Chan is the third president of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). He joined KAUST as president on September 1, 2018, after nearly a decade as president of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Dr. Chan's professional field is computational mathematics, with interests including image processing and computer vision, physical circuit design and computational brain mapping.
