162: What Should You Do When Teens Come Back From Camp?

from Volunteer Youth Worker Podcast

If you’ve ever spent time at camp you know that life changing and faith defining moments are almost inevitable. That means that you have the incredible opportunity to engage with any of your students who served at camp and continue to process their experience with them when they return home. Join Sid and Jeremy as they talk through questions that you can use to spark the right conversations when your students come back from serving at camp (or any major experience)!   Want to chat with your students about vocational ministry? Check out this great resource!   Want to chat more with Jeremy or submit a question? Were there moments that it was difficult to carry on? What do you think caused that? How did you respond? Did you like the way you responded? Do you wish you would have responded differently?   SERVING What areas did you serve in? What areas brought you joy? What areas weren’t as fun? What did you learn about yourself, your gifts, and your interests as you served? In light of that, are there areas now, away from camp, where you wish you could get the opportunity to use those gifts, skills, and experiences to serve again?   COMMUNITY Did you experience conflict with the people you worked with? What caused that conflict? How did you resolve it? Did you like how you responded in the midst of it? If you did it all over again, how would you respond differently?   SPIRITUAL FORMATION How did you experience Jesus this summer? Where did you see God at work? How has this changed your relationship with Jesus? Are there any practices that you did at camp that you hope to carry on now that you’re away from camp? I’d assume that your emotions are going to change now that you’re away from camp, how do you think being in a new environment will affect your relationship with Jesus?     IDENTITY FORMATION What did you learn about yourself? Do you see yourself differently now than you did before camp? Are there any areas (in terms of how you sense your purpose and/or your value) that you would like to see developed and grown now that you’re not at camp?    EVALUATION How would you like to continue to grow? What are some goals you have for yourself over the next 10 months? What would you like to see happen with your relationship with Jesus? Are there areas you would like to serve in now that you’re not at camp? Who do you want to be when you’re at school? Has anything changed about who you want to be or how you act with your friends?
