These are two signs and seals of the covenant of grace, instituted by Christ, to be observed by his church until the end of the world.Chapter 29: Of Baptism. Baptism is immersion in water in the name of the Trinity, as a sign of union with Christ, cleansing from sin, and dedication to God. It is only for those who profess faith in Christ and obedience to him.Chapter 30: Of the Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper is bread and wine received by the church as a memorial of Christ’s death, a confirmation of their faith and participation in him, and a bond of love and fellowship among the saints. It is only for those who are in a right state of mind and heart, and who examine themselves before partaking. It is not a sacrifice, nor does it confer any grace by the mere act of receiving it.
