#17: Baking passion into your business with Liz Wilson

from The Happiness Habits Transformation Podcast · host Michelle Reeves

Today I’m joined by Liz Wilson, a teacher, passionate home cook and the founder of Ma Baker, an award-winning Bread Bakery. In 2014 Liz split up with her long term partner and father of her three children. She found myself in a small house, working at the local primary school. She took a bread course as a treat, became bread obsessed overnight and eventually Ma Baker was born. She now bakes, sells and delivers up to 100 loaves on a bake day and teach bread classes 3-4 times a week that are transforming people’s lives. She’s won World Bread Awards, Great Taste Awards and was voted Best Sole Trader at the 2018 British Business Awards. In this fascinating interview Liz shares the challenges that she’s faced starting her own business, the expectations and pressures that she had to deal with working from home, the practices that keep her sane and how she’s managed to create a work/life balance that works for her and her family. Liz’s passion for what she does and for serving her community is SO infectious and I know you’re going to love the discussions we get in to and the tips that Liz shares for starting and running a business including setting boundaries with your children, knowing when to say ‘no’, when to push forward and when take your foot OFF the pedal and how to promote your business without being sleazy or salesy. She also shares some specific tips for starting a food-based business which are golden! But before we get started, I have to apologise for the sound at the beginning of this interview, Liz and couldn’t figure out what was causing the noise! Turns out it was the fan on Liz’s laptop… who knew it could be so loud! Stick with us though because we do fix it just a few minutes in. Progress not perfection right? But I know it’s hard to listen to podcasts when the sound isn’t 100% great so thank you for persevering with us.   FREE MINI-COURSE TO OVERCOME OVERWHELM: www.michellereevescoaching.com/overwhelm   LINKS: website: www.mabaker.london Twitter: @mabakerbakes Instagram: @mabakerbakes Facebook: @mabakerbakes
