Yes, I said tomatoes; and no, we're not going to eat them.   In the late 1980s, University student Francisco Cirilo was struggling to focus on his studies and complete his assignments. Feeling overwhelmed, he decided to commit to just 10 minutes of focused study time.   Encouraged by his challenge, he found a tomato-shaped timer in his kitchen and set it for 10 minutes. When the timer went off, he would take a short break and then resume his studies. And so the Pomodoro or tomato technique was born!   The technique states that you set a timer specifically for 25 minutes and you focus on ONE specific task. As soon as that timer goes off, you take a five-minute break. After four complete rotations, you take a longer 15 to 30-minute break.    Now Studies have shown that these short sprints of focused energy really do work but it doesn't just have to be 25 minutes. It can actually be anywhere from 25-52 minutes. So experiment with what works best for you.   Now, this is important on these breaks. It's not time to be checking the stock market or scrolling on social media or doing a task that takes "less energy" for you to focus on. Use these 5 to 10-minute breaks to intentionally recharge your focus.     Here are a couple of ideas:   -  Take a short walk around the house or the office or outside and enjoy some sun.    - Stretch, meditate or do some breathwork.    - Do some jumping jacks or push-ups to get your blood flowing.   - Socialize with your spouse for a minute.   - Play with your kids or pet.   Regardless of what you choose, think of something that you know would help you recharge.
