Mentre le proteste degli agricoltori italiani non si fermano per difendere il valore della produzione nazionale, c’è un altro comparto che non riesce a rialzarsi. Stiamo parlando del mais che nella campagna 2023, per la prima volta dopo 160 anni, scende sotto i 500mila ettari di superficie coltivata. La produzione nazionale resta quindi largamente insufficiente e inferiore al 45% rispetto al fabbisogno nazionale. Eppure, si tratta di un prodotto fondamentale per le grandi Dop zootecniche come Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, Prosciutto di Parma e San Daniele. Filiere d’eccellenza dipendenti dall’import di mais e soia per i mangimi, che paradossalmente vale di più dell’export di formaggi e salumi Dop. È possibile rilanciare questa coltura tenendo conto delle sue caratteristiche green e con l’aiuto delle nuove biotecnologie?
