17: Overcoming Opioid and Patient Challenges with Dr. Adam Ryan

Welcome back to Pain Reframed!  This week, Dr. Adam Ryan joins us to discuss the prescription and regulation of opioids.  Adam is an obstetrician-gynecologist in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and was a huge inspiration to Dr. Jeff Moore with his knowledge, communication, patient care, and being present with others. Adam, Jeff, and Tim discuss where the opioid problem came from and how we got to where we are today.  With that, Adam also shares his unique perspective from, not only rural America, but also from a busy practice, not having the time he wishes he could have with the patients.  Also, a very interesting commentary on how patients can and sometimes do push back when trying to educate them on opioids. The conversation moves towards trying to find solutions to addressing this problem effectively when the cards are really stacked against.  It's an excellent, powerful, and necessary conversation in today's episode!
