170: YouTube Trending is Biased, Crowder vs. Vox, and More

from Bandrew Says Podcast · host Bandrew Scott

On episode 170 of the BSP I discuss a recent analysis done by Coffee Break regarding the bias shown on the YouTube Trending Page, and discuss a battle going on between Vox & Steven Crowder, what I think the true motives are, and what I think you should do with this information.   CLARIFICATION: I do not think my discussion on the second story was clear. To make sure what I said in the 2nd story is not misconstrued, I do not support the doxxing or harassment of individuals. I also think that if you label your self "x,y, or z", and someone then calls you "x,y, or z", that probably should not offend you or be labeled sexist, racist, or homophobic.   I also think that the move towards identitarianism is somewhat damaging. It puts people in groups, leading to a further sense of segregation and in some cases more animus towards one another. I believe that instead of thinking of people as "what boxes do they check on this list of physical/sexual traits", we should view each person as the culmination of their actions and ideas.   Additionally, if you're creating content for millions of people, there will inevitably be people who make fun of you and criticize you. That, unfortunately, comes with the territory, and the only way to stop this would be remove all ability to comment, which I think would be more damaging.   I hope that the harassment of Carlos Mazza stops, because harassment is awful, but I do not necessarily think that joking about someone is grounds for banning. If youtube decides that joking about someone is bannable, then no comedians, late night talk show hosts, or even politicians should be allowed on youtube because they have likely ALL done this.   Subscribe to the full audio podcast at http://www.bandrewsays.com   Twitter: @bandrewsays Ask Questions: [email protected] Merch; https://teespring.com/stores/podcastage-store Discord: https://discord.gg/dXQUc7v Gear Used This Episode: Shure SM7b - https://geni.us/shuresm7b Universal Audio Arrow - https://geni.us/uaarrow Stedman PS101 - https://geni.us/ps101 Sony MDR7506 - https://geni.us/7506   00:00 - Intro 01:05 - The Truth Behind the YouTube Trending Tab * Coffee Break Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDqBeXJ8Zx8 10:51 - Steven Crowder vs. Vox & The YouTutube Ban * YouTube Investigating Steven Crowder: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/31/18647621/youtube-steven-crowder-bullying-harassment-twitter-vox-carlos-maza * Steven Crowder Video Response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQbpbsY7qVQ 25:12 - Twitter Has 4 Person Live Streaming 25:30 - WYHTS: YouTube Never Promised a Living 27:55 - WYHTS: What happened to the first 8 Episodes of the BSP? 29:40 - WYHTS: Do you Use Speakpipe? 30:35 - Ask Bandrew 31:25 - Email 1 32:09 - XM8500 or SM48? 34:37 - Email 2 34:57 - Blue Encore 200 vs Samson Q2u 37:48 - Outro
