178 | Job's lament (JOB 3)
from Holy Lit: The Bible · host Allen
The Book of Job is set in a place called Uz — many scholars associate it with Edom or somewhere east of Canaan, based partly on Lamentations 4:21, though the identification is debated — at a time when wisdom traditions from Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Israel all ran together. The book was probably written down in something close to its final form around the sixth or fifth century BCE, though dating proposals range more widely than that, and the question isn't settled. What is clear is that it was written during or after a hard stretch. The Babylonian exile had wrecked a lot of comfortable assumptions about how the world worked. The idea that God rewards good behavior and punishes bad — that framework was under serious strain.Source:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QZye8vnH1AFk5oxB0MQQsKQnuG5LM8gw/view?usp=sharing
