Let's play the theme tune. The living avatar is an ancient god incarnate. Molten iron flows through his veins and bubbles of fiery, ichor burst and solid fire upon his skin. Tenderalls of smoke and flying cinders in wreath him like a dark crown.
A thick red gore uses from his hands and drips for his fingers. In his right hand he carries the wailing doom, the weapon of the bloody-handed god shrieks as it tastes mortal flesh. The runes upon its blade ride as they struggle to escape their bondage as it tortured by the avatar's fiery grasp. As to the fate of the sacrificed young king, not even the farseers will speak.
Perhaps he lives on for all eternity, his spirit into mingling with the greater spirit of Kaelan and Shikage. More likely, he is incinerated utterly, his spirit is sacrificed to the merciless bloody-handed god. The avatar expands and every time I learn something new about him he just gets even better. I can see why you like him.
My avatar in the discord is the avatar and he is legit what sucked me 100% into 40k and Eldar about 30 years ago. So when the new model came up was you happy with that new model? The old one is still holding up, it's just tiny. You've got the original metal avatar who is basically slightly bigger than two later.
He looks really goofy now. Then you have the ford and that ford It's a bit too rocky, isn't it? The fire between. It's a big elf prince.
It's not my vibe. The people have painted him amazingly against Sergium and Shok. It's unbelievable. We're just going to talk over a couple of minutes today, mostly tournaments and the growing competitive scene at Mr.
Games. Recently we had the Mystic Mailshroom which was a 18 player RTT. It was mainly a lot of locals but we also had some guys from Swindom, the SWAT team. Swindom War Games and tactics.
They were nice bunch. They came down. Jip. The kind of Wrangler.
Head Swat guy. He managed to take thirds in the tournament. So yeah, shout out to them. It was a good day.
We mixed it up with the Willings for the day. You three printed some nice thunder hammer trophies. They looked very cool. Kind of disappointed.
I didn't get one. I got like half of one where one broke. We sprayed them up so I got one. There was a little one because you enlarged the final size and that's what was the trophies.
We had a little one that I painted up like an actual thunder hammer for the best painted. It's nice to get a little trophy. I've been places where they don't give out trophies and it's obviously if you place it. It's cool.
I have a little memento. It's really nice. It's a long day. You do sort of prepare for them a bit.
It's nice to people like stuff. We like cool fortications. If you come away with a hand like 100% you're very happy. Yeah, 100%.
So you actually managed to take the win for this one. It's nicely done. The last one, you came in fifth. 85th.
The last one we did, I did 1000 cents. I was basically shocked on everyone. It was another good event. I was actually toothed which was nice to have.
It's dedicated. You took Alder up this time. Your first game was a very close game. I was playing Jason from the shop who he's got several armies.
He's good on one. He brought custodies who are particularly strong now. I'm going in when he did the pairings. I was like, yeah, I'm pulling a staff with a big fat L on this one.
Jesus Christ did the first few turns of the game. Live that out. We'll actually spoil the alert. I won it by one point.
Turn one, Jason. Advanced charge has played guard in one of his. Stoney and squad's warden's or guard. I did not want to.
Made a charge straight into the heart of my deployment zone. I deployed back. No one had a lot of threat range. I think I needed into a role.
I locked on 3d6 as in the advance charge. He just had good dice. That happened. So me deploying far back but inside his threat range wasn't enough.
He went fucking balls deep on me. He destroyed a falcon and a wall walker in turn one. Consolidated into the contents and the avatar. He basically touched a load of stuff on my deployment zone.
It's calling deployment. I'm like, I'm like, about 2.53 points down and he touched a load of stuff. I'm like, which as I hold on, you do not want. If you're being touched, that's kind of it.
It's either dead or it can't then activate because I've only got what I can do. I can't do four back shoot on one unit. He has for a strat. I was like, Christ, I'm thinking of myself out.
He had some good secondaries. We were having a good laugh already at this point because he was laughing about my second being shit. He's being really good. He's got his balls deep on my deployment zone and it's just like, this is really funny.
So he had a breakdown in terms of targeting the first round and he got the second point. I got investigate signals and capturing me out. Capture enemy out post turn one. Who is doing that?
Luckily, I applied some of the lessons from our previous podcaster. I had three units ready to go and do signals in all corners. Check me out. Listening to my advice.
So I'm scraping my way out trying to fall back and shoot some stuff. I think I basically pointed my whole arm in at that unit and killed it. I was like, cool. Okay.
Think I've recovered. Then turn two. Fucking invo- Moved him with his Trajan Squares and deleted my avatar. Yeah.
Yeah, because they ignore his half damage. Yeah. I don't think he even needed to roll the rest of his squad. He just killed him with Trajan.
It was again very funny. He was a lot of laughing all round. And again, Jason, so he got a ten on primary. He got a very difficult and excellent battle line.
It's nice and easy. So he had a 20 point turn. I was like, okay. I'm like scraping it five.
I pull out, bring it down. Brilliant. Can't score that because it's tanked and I'll cross it the side of the board. And then behind end lines.
Brilliant. I can only get one unit over there. So after two turns, basically taking the gene seed of the emperor where I do not need it and pulling some hilariously bad second risk. And losing probably 700 points of my army.
It goes into Jason's turn three. Another turn of primary. He scores. He gets capture and cleanse scores a lot well.
Because he very cleverly rapping his Benetari in my turn two. And I couldn't get to them. Yeah. Really well placed.
Don't ask me why I left my hole in my back doors. There was one. So going into my turn three. I think he was 27 points ahead of me.
But this is the point where it kind of swung around because I very killed a lot of my stuff. I killed that fairly hard. I spread around the board isolated some of his stuff. It came down to me denying him five primary warwalker.
Just by one AC. Five points off him in turn four. He had assassinated in turn four or five. Shocks, Cleggies, Gravtanker, Fuger, who hilariously passed one of his invents.
You got to have that. That's my point. So that would have been five points. That's me denying him ten points in those two scenarios.
Yeah. That's how you win. Yeah. And then the last one was I pulled no prisoners right at the end.
And the score at this point is 76 to Jason, 75 to me. And I know prisoners. So I put my primary. Yeah.
The other one was over on force and he was only on one objective, which was a full unit of wardens. No chance. Absolutely no chance. So I got a kid who's Canadian's Gravtanker win the game by one point.
And he did it. With the last activation. Oh my god. I think in the end I was graduating with the Avatar.
He was firing everything in his role. He was firing pins on over the bases. It was really funny. And then in the end, last activation, simple.
I can't even pay. Simple. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't matter if you win by one or so.
What was the score? Ninety. It was in the 90s. 76 to Jason.
So it was in the 90s. Yeah. Yeah. He played really well.
I feel like I played really well in response and it was just really going. I mean, yeah. If so much of your army dies, especially being an elder with kashnos in your deployment on your home objective, a lot of people would just. Well, that's that.
But I think also the benefit of especially the out honest, you were sort of running them. You just got countless activations that you can just move everything. And there were a lot of stuff inside. You still got a annoying amount left to go.
Yeah. There's a lot of lethality that you can point in the right place. And it was, I think it's a good example of not getting tilted by, so a poem playing really well. It's a half-decent dice, but that's not really anything to do.
It's just that happens and gets them half to better second-distance than me. So it's kind of all swinging away. And the lesson that I did before me was don't get tilted, don't ask. You just can't really apply a plan.
We can dig you out the hole. You might get there. Yeah. And I say it's just an 18 player.
Yeah. Locals really. Yeah. And excuse to get your games in.
Yeah. And that's what we were saying before. I mean, yes, I should. I had going to this one was.
I'm just looking forward to spending the day playing three games in Warhammer with the dudes that I like to chat with. And it's just fun. Yeah. And I think that is the intent with these smaller ones at the shop.
It's just, yeah. There's lots of doors. Yeah. And get some games in.
Yeah. Then, yeah. I mean, your first game, my first game. I lost by a point.
Ah. I forgot what round it was. And it was the last round. And I shot instead of cleansing or deploying one of the two.
I can't remember which one then. But if I did that, then I would have tied. But looking back at the scores, there were other things that I could have done to get the win. But I played against Ben and his ultramarine.
Yeah. And it was tough. I picked up the how glasses because I know in the past they have done me in. And I just moored the crap out of them.
And then, when they can't do their shoot on death, so if you've got them away from your stuff and you've more to them in direct, they can't use that. Yeah. So I think they could get a line on some nerglings. But that's a good tactic.
Yeah. So they were kind of out of the game. They didn't do really anything. I managed to kill Gileman.
That was a bit of a goal of mine who was still murdering. So I did it twice because he gets back up on the two up. But yeah. How did you feel playing your deathguard in their strength and how does it feel playing against the ultramarine?
Is it even? Was one really meta-homed or how did it feel? If I'm good, it was with Mortarium, with the reason that it's like they clarified that his ability does work the way people wanted it to and not the way they ruled it for the world general. Yeah.
So Mortarium was back in the table. He's a really good buffing piece. And he did the work. It was quite funny how about Jason, third game, and Mortarium and Trajan had a fight.
Nice. And where they both turned off each other's abilities. Yeah. Because I ignore his and he ignored mine.
What do you ignore with his? Because I know he ignores your mind's momentum. Like he would ignore the toughness and weapon skill and ballistics skills. And then if he used any strategy for extra damage or anything like that, he could have avoided that.
He did two rooms to Mortarium and Mortarium did nothing back. What a tough point. They just bounced off each other's eyes. I was a fan of the list.
I could have played better. Yeah. But I played you and came to. Yeah.
The things just... One had a beating. I just think I got the loot. Just deleted.
Yeah. I got some... So, conversely to the game of Jason where he had to good dice against me. It started.
I had to good dice against you. And I popped a couple of right answers out and got you brigged. And then on the other side I think I pretty much killed a rhino and went into the plate. Yeah.
And it just suddenly felt like I got a real bit of momentum into one. You kind of pent me in. Like I could either run on the flanks and get shot at. Or try and get through the mess of all the terrain in the middle.
Yeah. And not get anywhere because there was no middle objective in that game. So it was like, where do I go? I was no way.
I was low score in game. But I think I take away from that would be... I didn't take into account prep ranges. I didn't expect you to be able to move enough to then shoot my brigands.
I thought he was relatively safe. But he wasn't. Yeah. So, I think he was positioning.
He couldn't have the corner. Was it? Yeah. I mean that's what Eldar Chambondu, like the dice kind of fave you a bit.
And with the winery roll and the hit the roll, two bright large shots. It's such a great chance of both going through. Yeah. Yes.
He's very useful. And then your last game was into Alphrig who had done the non-normal that day. Yeah. He was on the...
He was kind of high up. He wanted his first game. Yeah. Then he went into towel.
Yeah. And he managed to get the win against towel. Yeah. So fair play to him.
And then he got you, which... It's staying on that top table. How did that go? Yeah.
Alphrig up and coming. Young blood in the club is in the league. He's very trained in any... He's got one of those intangible skills of...
He listens and he pays attention to the good of bikes. So he's learning really quick. Yeah. As evidenced by being on top table in the third round.
You know, starting to see? Second, I think. First one, I think. Second to last.
Yeah. This one, he came. I mean that's a hell of an improvement curve right there. It's a hundred percent.
Yes. I mean, yeah. It's brilliant to have your maximum play in well and helping everyone else become better. There's more good players around the shop.
It's just good to see. And he played well in that final game. So, obviously I've got the win at the end of the tournament. It was on a nice fetch and kind of turned on the two because he plays a orks.
So his overall strategy is about overloading a number of threats and pressure on my list. And my faction doesn't like the impact into a corner. I need room to run away screaming not in the face. If I can't do that, I'll do that.
That affects it. So he puts a good pressure on two flanks on the board. The mission was play drop. So this is the Alpha Omega mission.
One objective disappeared, 10-4, another one disappeared, 10-5. And a combination of me being well-paired into missions because I understand the importance of enough stuff. Suffered it enough, I've learned if you understand the mission, you play a lot better. Yes.
And the long story short, this one is I knew both of you, which objective was worth 15 points in the game. I deployed a play to the whole game to that end. And Alpha didn't. Alpha played a good overall game that spread himself across the whole board.
Basically, I ignored one side of the board which has, let's say, a quarter or a third of this one side there. I concentrated on the other side, killed it off, skilled it, and there's me sitting on a lot of primary for the game. Yeah, I mean, that one last turn is what, 15, which is huge. That's what I'm saying.
That's what I'm saying. Yeah. It's a low-scoring primary mission or can be. So picking up those 15 is really important.
It's kind of what the mission is about. Yeah. We did find that. Sort of, you know, a couple of prep games that we had, the games two and three, we typically frustratingly low scores, but kind of everyone's that.
I mean, what was your score for that in? It was 89 to Alpies 40. Yeah. Which, I mean, that is actually impressive on that.
We had some people winning in the 60s and things for that game. So, yeah. I mean, that just how it is. So I scored zero prime in the first two turns.
And that's because I'm doing the DLDAR macro strategy of run away and kill stuff. We would have been to securing a late game point swing. So then turn three, I scored five, so I was holding one new field objective. But then going to turn four, I've committed enough genocidal atrocities to all these orcs that I then scored a 16 in turn four.
So basically I held one of them for the two new fields objectives and then turn five score 50. Yeah. Because I held the one that was left. Yeah, exactly.
And it doesn't matter if he's got a thousand points in the line. A thousand points is nowhere near. Who went first? Healthy.
Yeah. That game is much better for going second. Yeah. That's true.
That's good. You can go in second. Just ultra commit to that middle of whatever objective it is. Yeah.
I'm just trying to murder everything because you score at the end. Yeah. I could have, I could have clenched it. But I mean, yeah.
A good, good outing from everyone. Yeah. And yeah, there's a lot of people at the shop trying to just improve their game and not trying to be sweaty about it or anything like that. It's just people are enjoying scoring high and playing at a good level, playing fast.
Yeah. And then you can have a good movement, being efficient. It's just, it's very satisfying when you can make a really sleek list, perform really efficiently. It's just a nice feeling when you get that.
And a lot of people are doing really well at that. Yeah. And we're doing the Mystic Super League, are you? So that is going to be a big, a big six month league.
We'll have however many players it's going to be. And they will at least play everyone once. And depending on numbers, we might even be able to work out so everyone plays everyone twice. And I have totally not stolen the rules back from 10 dot tactics and that you can only change your list if you lose or your code X comes up because that's going to mess everything up.
So, and it's recommended that we use UKTC and is recommended that if you are a divergent, space, or injector by blood angels, space rules, templars, you use their detachment. It just works well. For how it should be, I think, and I know why he's a good one for that opinion as well. If there's a non-marine player, I would love that because I don't have anything clear.
What rules are going to be applied to what armies generic staff is in the code X? Yeah. You just confused me. So, as it stands, so Dark Angels, the first one to have their supplement, they've got nine detachments that they can choose from, which is insane.
You know what, French, you need to use it. Simplify myself. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I'm not sure if it's a mandara effect or I am certain that in Photoshop when they announced 10th, they said it would be colaxes.
Like it was in 8th edition, I believe, because I've got the 8th edition blood angels book and it has like intercessors and tactical rings in that. So, because then when you balance the game, you can balance if black templars have been really good. You can bring them just them back down. And if ultramarine's are bad and you buff a unit for them, you're not going to indirectly buff everyone else.
Because at the moment everyone running, was it the Stormraven gunships? So, I didn't know, but apparently Stormraven's, so a play can transport the trip. So, I watched Kit Smith kind of on WarGames' live YouTube channel in the final of our GT in the States. Get first to get some custodies with Dark Angels, with two Stormravens, two Lemtas, turn one and a couple of random characters nearby, I don't stand off some buffs.
But basically pushed half of his army across the boards. I think they could advance a shoot which gave them some extra range and they deleted Trajan and his unit of warden's in turn one. And the custodian player, the thing half of the YouTube audience were, what the fuck is this? Yep.
And now if you look at like Goon Ham is roundups that they do, you look at the spatial ring lists, they are. So, there's your two things, there's your two dreadnoughts that are in them. Because the planes move 20 plus inches. Well, they could go to hover, so they could do either.
They could do either. They could do the fly and get the pit penalty and all the rest of it. But with hover, I think they get enough movement so they go 20 and... Yeah, because if you're hovering you can start off the board.
You're flying, you have to start off. Yeah, still. Yeah, you fly that half board. Drop off a dreadnough.
Yeah. I know. Even if it's like a redemptor or something like turn one, a redemptor being half way up the board. Ridiculous.
Because then it's going to kill something and shoot in. And then next step is going to walk up and pick something and shoot. Nice. So, there's a meta adaptation that needs to happen.
I know these things, and I just said it, look to be powerful, but these things always look powerful as everyone's adapting their list. And it was a kind of perfect storm. A load of rules, both of them are powerful alpha strike on a key custodies unit in that case. So, they can pick on powerful bricks and destroy them, but the counter to that is spreading your points around.
Yeah. Like if you do that to me and I, I've been at any shot, what I expose, maybe, your waves open. If I've got some, you know, you're praying and there's a creep in there or something. I'm like, okay.
I mean, a few activations and content making it, it depowers itself when people adapt to that stylist. Yeah. You can turn it around. I don't think it's going to be too oppressive.
And it's kind of like with custodies and fight first. People are, people kind of figure it out. Yeah. Do you have, do you have damage one?
There you go. AP one, that's how you beat custodies. And you don't fight them. Yeah.
And look at, again, on the scale, he's like three, even three, maybe two weeks ago, people have said he said, if you know overbought, they've been over just as in the day, and then you look at, you know, that example, they're getting absolutely faceding. And, you know, the fights first thing, there's ways of charging in and activating and using engagement, ranging, piling or rest of it too. You know, charging on the end of the unit. So not many models can pile in and activate.
So there's ways around that people and the messa-meter gaps. Yeah. Well, yeah, the matter is really balanced on the level. Sorry, plenty brilliant.
Yeah. Unbelievable. Yeah. Is there anything else you wanted to?
I just don't, I just don't, I'd say on the balance thing. Like there is, I know there's a Drake in our work discord about Steve why do you choose Alder? Because he wanted to win. Ha ha ha.
But like Alder, for the last few weeks have been set on a similar tree, 49 or 52 or something. Really, really nice balance after the latest round of nerfs. You know, even net comps, the big baddies are in the kind of mid fifties. And I mean, I know there's like differences where like the top players play the top lists and certain outcomes are more defined, but broadly across the gate.
When normal humans, who aren't full-time one of players are playing these things, these stats are telling you the difference between a 55 to 45 if you go on Reddit. You might as well never, ever, ever pick up that 45% less sport or faction. But actually, they're still winning 45 times out of 100. Yeah.
You shouldn't take advice from Reddit. I think that's the biggest takeaway. Yeah. Absolutely.
Half of them at the place. But the meta, the meta is a great place. The bottom is stronger than it was. The top is weaker than it was.
Almost any faction to the end. We played yesterday. It was Deathguard against Aura. I mean, you did get the win at 10 points.
Yeah. 90 to 80. Yeah. Just, yeah.
It's good to go. It's not. It could have gone any way. Yeah.
Yeah. I think Fort K is looking good. It is. And they've got Josh Roberts.
He's one of them. I think he's on the best place in the world. Basically, he's now working. And he did the latest meta watch.
Oh, okay. So he's on the balancing team. Pay by G Dub. So he, I think he got a good balance there.
I think the balancing team previously were not quite in touch with the meta. And if you, I would guess he just took Josh's top, top, top meta view. That's not the right answer either. But together you get a balanced view of 95% of all have a game.
And then the top head together making out some of those key things. And all around you get a good balanced set of data. Yeah. Because the games work together working with Baskers Bearings now.
They've partnered with them. They've partnered with ITC. So they're, they're, they're honing in. They're, they're, they're only going to, they're only going to improve.
Yeah. Hopefully that will start to make some sense because the BCP website is crap. The ITC rankings and stuff, the data is messy. The UI is crap.
Like the whole thing just needs professionalizing. Yeah. Because on Baskers Bearings it to look at your rankings. Just the like BCP ranking.
It's got the dates all the way back from 2020. Like just, I just want to look at this year. Yeah. Yeah.
I go straight to think what data they got behind the scenes and what. Fucking Excel spreadsheet. It's based on it. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't want to see that. That would give you a nervous break. Yeah.
Yeah. So I think keep the eyes out for future mystic events because there's going to be a lot coming. And yeah, we'll just get some games in rather nice and play with our toy shoulders. Excuse me.
Yeah.
