Thanks for tuning to So much Radio and welcome to another exciting skate companion edition of the podcast. We've got the Gabriel Summers No White Flag Zero part. Along with me today we've got Mr John O'Nash. Hello.
I'm on QUTA, I'm on Thrasher magazine, mate. I've done a few YouTube. I'm on YouTube. The video is four minutes and 19 seconds long, so watch the part and then get back to your day, can't you?
This isn't going to dominate your day. Easy skate companion. Yeah, so if you haven't listened to a skate companion before, it's a watch along, simple as that. You get our first reactions, our first takes to it and then we'll have a little breakdown I suppose.
Yeah. I'll do a three, two, one and then we press play together so we're all QUTA. You don't have to do it. It's not essential.
But if you want to add the real turbo to it, what's really great about the game? Then you should. You really should do it. So I say three, two, one and we will press play together and hopefully there isn't an advert in the middle that fucks it all up like long videos do to us every single time.
But hopefully this won't be perfect. They can't be perfect. They're not in full 20 videos before then. Okay.
Well, that further ado, then we'll get stuck, stuck straight in. Gabriel Summers No White Flag Zero part. So it's a three, two, one and press play and we are in the classic crusher thing. And I do like the things mate.
I do like the things in all the pretty good animation. Classic zero, one. Okay. You do not there mate.
Wow. Yeah. Nice intro mate. Come on now.
You got some distance jumping off that board then. Beautiful. No slide. You can get a little kick from the lower.
Is this a, is this die don't? I think it is. Oh, that was lovely. Gap out the crook.
Nice. Just backboard mate. Just a nice long backboard. Oh, straight back side flip.
Yeah, he's definitely got an R back to mate. The song weirdly works. Oh, it does. It's got a nice, nice air around it.
Oh, beautiful frontboard slide. Oh, nice for food. Back 50. Huge.
Oh my God. Lovely mate. Big for the blunt. Yes.
Yeah. Fuck that. That would just want to thank you. Well, I think that's in Bangkok.
That spot. I'm sure is. Oh, this is brilliant. It's a really scary guy.
Tristan is angle. I made a man up my own heart there with the flip front 50 50. That is just into the wall of the wall. Oh, there you go.
I said. Is there a video now? Nice combo. Nice combo there.
Oh, this is a throwback mate to these classic. Oh, French are 50. That's a good quality. No.
Oh, he'll flip. He'll flip crook. That front foot was gone. Nice board break mate on the back smear.
Love it. Love it. Where when he was short shirts there, don't know. Love it.
Bormate. Oh, clip the leg. Hail. I like it.
I like it. Back five. Oh, that's a great angle. Oh, he likes to hug the wall.
He likes to do so. He does me. Oh, big awesome. Here you go.
No twisted 50 there, mate. No twisted 50 there. That was what we got here. No grind.
No grind mate. Yeah. Fuck off of your own grips. That's steep.
Oh, yes. Look at that. Look at the hug on the wheels. Again, no two of that has to be as ender.
Right. Sure. That has to be as ender. That was insane.
That is the ender. Yeah. Oh, edit by Jamie and nice. Oh, my God.
So far. Jesus. Yeah. When you're, when you just, I suppose, when you've just gone around the curb mate and then you know you've got that straight to go down Arthur was like, Oh, fuck sake.
Here we go. Yeah. Dye doh. Yeah.
White flag. Oh my God. Awesome video. Didn't feel like four minutes.
That's not for the army. Let's let's get back in mate and have a little breakdown. So the, I've gone to the heel flip crook at 220. Oh, his foot.
No, not many people are doing the technical heel flip to crook anymore mate. You know what I mean? Don't see it that often. Because it is, I suppose once you, you've pinned out your, your heel, you know, when that comes back around, you've got to make sure that you are on that crook or you're going to be missing that ledge and I'm sure it's easier than Mr.
Lege from a heel flip crook or heel flip nose in a flip nose. Yeah, because you're going away from it, aren't you? At least with the kick flip. You're typically, that's you're kicking into the ledge.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, it's still, you're, I suppose you're going under and you've got to make sure you're above. Whereas a heel flip kind of stays out. But yeah, like you said, you have to bring, you've got to bring yourself that foot back around and hope to dear God. What time was that?
I go to 220. 220. Yeah. And the fact he does the acid drop down the fucking good 10 or so.
That's the drop is insane. Because that is huge. That has to drop. Yeah.
I ain't going down that thing ever. That's too big. I think it's like a face mate when he's the 12 set that drops down. Yeah.
If you kind of, if you pause it on the, it's exactly what we were talking about. We're just going to out. So I'm going to heel flip there, mate. You're kind of 223.
He is, you know, that foot is out and gone. You know, he needs to, but he trusts to speak, mate. And that was a Volkswagen as well. It like perfectly lands in the crook position.
He almost gets a slight shove on it to swing it to that crook. Yeah. That's a little worse. What was another standout?
So many, so many good. I mean, that, that tail slide that he clipped on, mate was a pretty nice tail side. I think that was that near. Yeah.
That's a 240. That's a long old tail slide. Yeah. Heavy landing.
But it doesn't matter. Right. If you just tell slid, I don't know how many feet that is. That's probably good.
20 feet or something there, mate. You're taking heavy land, even if you roll down this fucking steps afterwards, you know, just kind of bounce around on him. So smooth as well. And the, and his shape in the, in the tail slide as well, he just knows where he's at.
Yeah. He doesn't look like he's behind, you know, he's poised, properly locked in. Where there was a big five, oh, at some point where I'm just trying to find where that was. Was that earlier at 108?
Yeah. If you go to like 105, got on a tall concrete one as well. Like that would be cool. If you saw that, if you saw that in impersonate, if you're like at that spot, you know, you'd know that appropriate touch it.
But it's so far beyond like our kind of like, idea what skateboard is. It's a different fucking sport. Like if you go, like you can just see the height of that other that is a scariness. And it's kind of like, um, it's rounded on the top as well.
It's not, um, it's not like, I'm sure if you put your foot on it when you're slipping out, it probably, you probably don't got the same sort of traction on that is if you would on just a normal hubber, you know, because it's thin as well. So the whole thing's probably pretty icy. Yeah. Or rough.
Or really rough. The, uh, I really like the, um, he does a few of them, like the backside 50-50s down the one 18 here. Backside 50-50 on a, on a rail, but with a sheer drop behind you, you know, you're asking for trouble. You could get power from the top of that.
You get, you get that top wrong. Yeah. Cause if your weight is slightly placed and you, I mean, you've slipped off a 50s like, you're, you're just going, you're gone. Yeah.
Yeah, you're gone. If you pause at a one 19 and see where he is, how his body is like, sat on top of that rail. That is a scary place to be surely. That is just like, there's, he's got no business being there.
Like that high up. I was trying to do that. I'd be all in down to the bottom of that thing to try and just kiss it or something like. Yeah.
It's like standing up in that position. How tall that would feel. How high that would be. Yeah.
Cause he's on it really early. He's like only like six or seven steps down it. And he's on. Would you, um, the next clip that's, I'm sure it's in Bangkok.
He's, uh, he's kind of, uh, he just gets a hill flip and rolls down like the three banks. Oh yeah. Would you attempt, would you attempt the, I think you're going to attempt the first one, right? You're dropping on the first one.
Oh yeah. The first one would be the bottom one. Yeah. You're dropping that.
Would you consider going from the second one? Or do you think you're going to get whipped off your feet at that, at that level and out point? You think when it plateaus, you think you're, you're, that point, you wigged out, you pushed it and then you're, you're up in, yeah sideways. Weighting, weight to be winded somewhere down that bank.
Yeah. And you can already hear the voice that you do like, no, like the film is over and around. You just have to let that person kind of just living it for a minute. Just had, yeah.
Yeah. So I can't help them. I can't give them air. I can't give them oxygen.
They're going to have to just ride out. Should we go? Yeah. Should we go?
Sift on? Is it all right? No, you could be angry, you know, you could be angry, sad and emotional, all in one. You would be angry because it's like, why did I do that?
Everyone knew. I knew the film and knew you knew that. Yeah. It was impromptu as well.
You were just rolling to the next spot, mate. There was a nice curve spot. You wanted to session, you know, hit a couple of manis or something. You've seen this and you thought it was a good idea.
You thought, you know what, this is John, I was like, I'd like to roll in. You do, you do kind of like to find yourself and on a sneak bank and just see it. If you get the, you know, it's cobbles in the bottom without something. So this one, you think it's quite smooth.
I might be able to handle this. Eat you alive. Great to call about. You know what, but it's nice to see a clip, you know, obviously a nice hill clip into the bank, but even just skateboarding riding down bank is still up top tier.
I love it when he does in the security guard. I did see this clip on Instagram and I just fucking apps the bollocks that he's got. Because he knows the score. He thinks, I can, you know, I think I'm going to get done it.
They might take my board away. So I've got there's a, there's a moment, there's a moment of just in the fucking trying to do the classic trip up that the police do. It misses. And then just, and then let's twist it so that in the process.
Oh God. He rode out and still gets a clip mate. Yes, still gets a clip flip front 50 is with that already zero ball as well. Oh, awesome.
Yes, such a good clip. And then that front lip, if I can sats it first, right? But the, it's got even like the knobs on it. And it looks like the audio is gaffered it or something.
It looks like they've messed with it. So you can, they might have bondoed the front of that mate. Yeah, because only a bondo just, they don't all have it like that top one. Doesn't have anything.
So yeah, they probably have bondoed it. Yeah, sounds good though. Sounds really nice. So that's fine.
Cluck clunk. And then the little ones we've got here back 15 knows little line. I like his little get up in that as well the track shoot jacket and stuff. Well, it's got the idea that took up mate.
So he's got to wear, you know, he wears it well. And then the next clip, the next clip is this is like, this is a 2001 year, you know, flip flip back five, oh down a corridor kind of stair set hubber situation, you know, in the dark with a with a flash going off as well, mate. It's got all, it takes all the boxes for me. So nice and just stomp rolls away into it, going to the shadows and even the next clip up that I make front of 50 again, like you're blind.
How are you? Shoving behind you to. Well, I mean, we all did it. We also got the front show back 50 at the site business school.
We know on the tall edge there and it's like, if you don't land, if you don't land in the grind, you land on your wheels, you are you are skidding out. Like there is no special rail, like I mean, literally, you're tailing yourself on the rail. Yeah. But to be that accurate on that, it's just, you know, it travels that trick travel.
For me, it does anyway, travels a lot. I'm jumping backwards to get my front shots around, you know, like really kind of pinging them around. So it's even got that kind of like horizontal energy, you know, this sideways energy rather, you don't want that energy, you want downwards up and down really don't you? Yeah.
Same as you know, try to do a 50-50 on the ledge, mate. And if you, you need to, you don't want to be going sideways into it, because again, you land the wheels on top, power, bottom time, you know, everyone's been there, everyone's done it. And the, the Smith, the back Smith, when he breaks his board, that's lovely as well. Really nicely filmed.
The follower long at the bottom. Yeah, boys, you know, the boys in the background as well, which is always nice because normally they kind of like, you have the crew behind the camera, don't you? You know, you don't get to see them, but because they're just there, kind of, that's the spot where they hang out, I suppose. It's, yeah, love it.
E-shocked, the E-shocked, you landed that as well. Then where are we? Yeah, back to that tail slide. Oh, yeah, the rail that we have two angles on.
So he hits the massive big five, oh, and then the crook. Two, two, four, nine. Yeah, and then second angle. The big ollie, three, oh five is nice as well.
Very like scenic kind of, uh, park. Yeah, that clip reminds me, there was a, um, I've done a bit of a four and one issue, number 44, something like that, one of my favourites, and Chris Marker, which has a thin lip and he hits a gap like that. Cool. It's like between like a little garden sort of gap, but it's, I don't know, it's not like super impressive, it just looks, it's a meat yolie.
Everyone's satisfied with an ollie, but it just looks nice. You don't get to see that many spots that are green. No, not really. You've got greenery around it, the whole, the spot is the greenery.
And then just proceeds to hit these fifties, mate. I mean, I've known he's a good rail skater, but I didn't know that he's, is like basics for 50-50. Like, he's this good. Is there, you know, he's, he's a Nigel, right?
Surely. Nigel, you know, it was that title, Pete's, and he's a 50-50 man, although he does like a bit of a twist. Um, yeah, you can hold on for dear life, like I don't, and then they, uh, nose growing down that steep. Yeah, which I'm sure I'm trying to think which video that's, that's an obviously, that is Jamie Thomas is throwing down on this like surely.
It looks familiar. He's definitely hit this rail. Yeah, the second angle when you see the, uh, the 327, that is literally like a, that is a zero fucking box art, you know? Yeah, I feel like I've seen, um, Carrot Hill or something, like do something.
Is it Carrot Hill, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I was, um, I listened back to the, um, uh, was it yesterday before? I listened back to the zero stars. And, uh, the fact that we didn't have Jamie Thomas in there again, it's just, it's, we even know at the end that we've, we've had a real bad fuck up in, uh, yeah, it was a Garrett and, and John McTray over. I mean, John McTray is, I think, fair enough, but not put Jamie in over fucking Carrot Hill is, uh, it was a bad call.
That was a bad call. We need to, I think we need to, uh, revisit that, you know, redact that mate. You're probably right because I don't know how, how we went. It would probably mean that, but surely someone spoke, it was me and you.
It was Will's pick. Will, Will picked Jamie Thomas, me and you didn't pick it. We were kind of like, I'm putting that on the crew. So yeah.
Yeah. So yeah, if you want to go back and listen to a zero star, it's a, it's a really good episode, but we, uh, yeah, we didn't, we didn't put Jamie Thomas in the top five zero, it's against all time. And for that, we do apologize. That's kind of a horn, but, yeah.
Yeah. It's terrible. And then if you like, like, not put Ed Templeton onto toy machine or something, you know, it's, it's, it's that kind of iconic. You, you have to, I mean, Ed might not go on.
You probably won't. No, not. I got this in the same wallet. Um, but then the end of this, that curved rail, the proper wobble is at the start as well.
When it comes on it, you're right. It does. And I just, I love just, he's, he's locked, he's locked and stood up instantly because I don't know if you know, maybe like if you're skating like a rail like that, if you can stand up, you can stand up earlier. It's, obviously it's more dangerous because you, you've gone up, your balance is 10 times better than being swapped.
Sure. Okay. Because what I mean, so it's, it's, it's, yeah, yeah, your arse isn't kind of like a play. You're, you're, I suppose your, your axis, you know, a bit higher, you know, um, it's just a bit more balanced.
You're just, it's like standing up, right? You are still more balanced standing up and squat. Someone can rock you over easily if you're squatting. So he's thrusting straight away.
He's standing up. He is standing up. I suppose, I think it's, you're not going to get around that corner if you're lower. I know you need a kind of a bend in your, in your upper body.
That's why I think you kind of like, foot down a little bit on as he comes around, just to kind of ride it out. Yeah. But it like sends himself at the peak of the, the peak of the curve, you know, right in the middle of that curve, he is just like, he's going to always open his body up, but the shock ends for him. Another spot mate.
You, you turn up though. That's, you're just walking up there mate. They say that's as college field. That's one of your college fields.
You're just walking round of steps. You know, someone can hit it, but no, like they have to be absolute top tier of a skateboarder. So even look at that thing. It's a skate spot.
Like a handful, a handful of people that could do that. Have all the skateboards. You think it's, there's only a few that would even have a look in to be able to do that. Yeah, you might, you might get like, active skateboarders now, I think you might necessarily like five to 10, I think we're probably close to getting it, you know, not saying they would land it, but there's a few, there's a few, there's a few, proma rail fucking chompers out there.
So I think, again, Nigel probably possibly looking to win. Who else we got this, it likes a 50. Like a ton of pizza and he doesn't mind a bit of a, but I don't think I've seen him on curved rails like that. Like when rails go round the corners, like that, I just think what the fuck it's.
Yeah. And he's on the other side of it. You'd almost want to be on the like inside of the curve. Do you know what I mean?
Yes. Yeah. I do not you mean. The crash landed as well was great.
I thought he went through that window at first. His foot moved. It sounds, I thought that was his foot going through the window. Oh man.
It's the hands up at the end. Like did I, did I actually just do that? I think he would like black out. Yeah.
Was that remember doing that? No, no, you're on flight or flight mode, they're like, you're literally one mistake and you're going to hospital. Like you're not walking away from that. You're either going down, like you're not just going to get a twisted ankle doing that.
You're either broken wrist, you know, split gooch, you know, something's going to go bad, or you're going to ride out of it. There's no, there's no bail. There's no bail. So you just, you just roll the dice on that and say, oh, I see you on the bottom.
I will go back to the first couple of clips and make the rolling at the start into the, then jumping into the water off the dock, you know, that's cool. What a way to start a video. It just brings, it kind of shows you sort of silly aside, you know, a more fun side skateboarding, but then backs up with Tekken Na. Oh yeah, that no slide.
And thoughts on the tune mate. I really liked it. It worked. I kind of liked it.
Has this nice flow to it. I suppose it sets it apart from if you just went for a classic zero track, you know, like just a classic rock soundtrack or rock anthem, you know, they might pick or a bit of punk rock or something like that, at least he's setting himself apart with this, this, this two zero parts hand turn into the same thing, right, with the shotgun edit, not even really a shotgun edit, either mate. No, it's just kind of slow tune. Here's a clip.
Maybe slow it down. Here's the next clip. It's no, there's not really any B roll or anything. No, it's just, you're right.
There's no like him. Yeah, him looking out across, you know, across a landscape, you know, with the wind over his hair and there's none actually. No, it's just, yeah, quite refreshing actually. It is actually.
Can we get overly arctic for the sake of it? Yeah. Especially being a zero. Oh, it's delicate mate.
What number what time is down for it? Literally just watched it. Go to 123. 123.
Love it. Love it. And that is one of my favourite graphics. Well, that's a cheeky one.
The bold graphic, that's a flower in between as well, that mate. That was a nice. But yeah, the poise and the, just the accuracy, because you can see that to get kind of like the real good locking that he does, he is properly like in his back foot, ass weight, you know, he's right. He's in there.
So when you see him spin around and land, he is still kind of, he's like, he's still in that shape. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But yeah, what, there's every single, every single clip in this video, even like the front nosebone on that brick leg to make on that brick cover, two minutes and 56, like gap out to front nosebone on a brick leg. Oh, yeah. Like to trust that that's going to move. Yeah, it's another one that you just got to do it or you don't get it.
You can't like pussyfoot around it. Can you, you, you either land it or you just eat shit at the bottom. You're supposed to put, you need to give it enough speed enough weight behind it to land it. You're not going to, you can't be tiptoeing on a spot, can you?
That is full force. Hoped the best. That just all the way, just let the slide do its thing. Yeah.
Yeah. Trying to hover above. Great. Yeah.
Well, what's coming up now, mate, it's turbo rating time. It's turbo rating time. You're going to hand it over to you to put your neck out on the line. John obviously, you're the highest career copy into it.
So, uh, it can put out to you, mate. You know what? I'm going to give that a four. That is, that is a really good part.
Yeah. Yeah. I agree. It is what it is.
Like it's, it's a zero part. Like just bump his four minutes of skateboarding hammers. There you go. Job's done.
It kind of, to me, it had zero, but I just ticked every, every, you know, three clips or so. It treated you to a classic, just a classic little k grind down a fucking gold rail or something or a like I said, flip back, five, oh, snapboard after the, um, the back smear front lip. Like you want it, give a couple of knobs on there as well to go down. It kind of rolling, you know, a bit fun and a super like that, that 50, he can, he can rest on his rolls for fucking a couple of years now.
He's, it's fine. He can, that's, don't worry about it, mate. You've got the clips there. That 50 is going to, that's going to, you can, if I ever did that 50, mate, every bar that I'd ever go into, I'd be pulling back, clip up.
I'd be pulling that. That's me. That's me. Yeah.
And would you not think that 100% would do that? Yeah. We might get you a few beers, mate. You never know.
You might catch like, oh, it's a skater that, or someone that used to skate is the bar staff. And I'm like, oh, yeah, it's a point, mate. Yeah, thank you. Keep coming.
Yeah. I'd be great. I think a four, five, again, it needs to be exceptional. This is close.
If this was a 10 minute part, you know, I mean, you'd probably, although, you don't really need a 10 minute part, you know, I think maybe if it was in a zero video, as an end, that sort of, you know, with all the bells and whistles around it, it could probably bump into a five, you know, obviously needs to be slightly longer, more lines, all that sort of stuff. Because it's like, you know, does that make lines in it, does it? No, I think you could stretch out to a six and sprinkle in some lines, just to see what he's got. Yeah, but still, he doesn't need it.
It doesn't need it. It's an awesome part. Just as it is. And it can be very zero, it can be happy with it.
And, uh, Gabriel, someone's going to be very happy with it as well, mate. Definitely. Well, should we, should we leave it there? Lovely little skate canyon?
That's a little one. In and out. Uh, yeah. If you, if you didn't queue up with us, go on to thrasher, go on to YouTube is, it's there to be watched.
You definitely don't want to miss out on this part. It's a good one. Cause we've actually, you did put another part out maybe a few months ago, mate, and we did sleep on that one. So I'm glad we kind of, uh, yeah, got to, got to break this one down.
Cause this, he is a, he is the, he's the, he's the proper kind of, um, archetypal skate rub zero of the tech, the tech and heavy air. So, uh, it's, yeah, we, we got, we got to follow this shit. We got to follow this shit. We'll leave it there.
Thank you very much for listening and we'll see you next time.
