179. When You’re Fighting Idolatry: 1 John 5:21

When we begin to trust in or treasure these more than God, our worship shifts. This episode encourages us to examine our hearts and remember that idolatry isn’t just about what we bow to—it’s about what we rely on, prioritize, and pursue.But God calls us to something better: the surpassing joy of knowing and worshiping Him alone. Scripture exhorts us to “put to death… covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5) and to fix our affections on Christ, who alone satisfies the soul. Psalm 73:25 reminds us of the cry of a heart fully devoted to God: “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You.” As we fight idolatry, let us return again and again to the beauty, glory, and sufficiency of Christ.
