Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 06 Episode 18 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on another cloudy and warm Tuesday morning 18 July 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: The new World Rugby rankings show New Zealand has just missed out on overtaking France for second place, but Australia have fallen. The All Blacks beat South Africa 30-25 on Saturday and one more point would have seen them secure extra rankings points for winning by 16 points or more to lift them above the Rugby World Cup 2023 hosts. New Zealand remain third in the world, ahead of the fourth-placed Springboks and behind France and top-seeded Ireland. Eddie Jones' Australia are in trouble, dropping from seventh to eighth in the rankings after consecutive losses to Argentina and South Africa in The Rugby Championship. Wales are now one place behind their World Cup group rivals Australia, with Warren Gatland's men ranked ninth. Their fellow group opponents Georgia is ranked 11th, Fiji is 13th and Portugal is 16th. In rugby league: This Friday night’s game between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Broncos at Sunshine Coast Stadium, promises to be a mouthwatering clash with ten stars returning, headlined by opposing superstar Fullbacks, Latrell Mitchell from injury and Reece Walsh from suspension. Nathan Cleary will be named at halfback for the Panthers, with their four ORIGIN III reps expected to play as well. Meanwhile, Parramatta Eels enforcer, Reagan Campbell-Gillard will likely be spending a month on the sideline for sliding his knees into the back of Titans’ hooker Chris Randall in an incident even Parramatta Coach Brad Arthur has conceded was “sloppy and lazy”. The Kangaroos and Blues star was charged with grade three dangerous contact and he is looking at four games on the sidelines with the early plea, but five if he fights the charge and is unsuccessful. In the Tour de France: Yesterday was the last rest day of the Tour de France 2023 with defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard clinging to a precious 10 second lead over his closest rival, Tadej Pogacar ahead of Stage 16 in the French alps. At Wimbledon: The All England Lawn Tennis Club has confirmed that they penalized Novak Djokovic US$8000, for “racket abuse” during his defeat by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. Djokovic later said that he wasn’t proud of the incident and accepted the officials sanction: “There’s not much to talk about,” Djokovic said when quizzed about it at the post-match press conference. “Yeah, just tough, tough couple of points. He played amazing to break my serve, which was enough to win the fifth. Not a great moment, but you just kind of have to accept it.” In combat sports: After winning the first boxing match of her career, Daniella Hemsley ripped off her bra and flashed the crowd at 3A Arena in Dublin, Ireland last Saturday night. Hemsley later posted on Instagram that she had a wardrobe malfunction - "Apologies to anyone who may have felt offended by my excitement, I did actually have tassels on but the sweat stuck them to my bra LOL." For the record, Hemsley, 22, now has 255,000 followers on TikTok and 122,000 on Instagram and I bet 99% of them are men! Hemsley also has an OnlyFans account called "Not your average Barbie Doll." Not your average Barbie Doll alright! Finally in the NBA: LeBron James will go back to wearing No. 23 on his LA Lakers jersey from next season, in another number switch in the basketball legend’s career. ESPN reports James will no longer wear No. 6 out of respect for Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, who died last year aged 88. Russell won a record 11 NBA championships with the Celtics and has the NBA Finals MVP trophy named after him. Sounds like just another merchandise money-spinner to me!
