18. Gratitude: Wrapping it Up With a Bow

from The Habit Thrive Podcast ~ Self Care Habits, Mindfulness & Wellness Routines for Women 50 & Beyond · host Lorrie Mickelson, Habits & Self Care

This week, on Episode #18 of the HabitThrive Podcast, we are wrapping up our month of Gratitude with a big bow. In the past few weeks, we’ve been learning how gratitude is a powerful tool that we can turn into an even more powerful habit. In our wrap-up episode, we’re driving home one of the most important things to remember: Gratitude is a practice … The more we practice it, the more we benefit from it! The best way to make anything a practice is to find a way to make it work for you. You wouldn’t choose to go to the gym alone if you were better motivated in a yoga class with your friends. Like a workout routine, a sleep routine or just about anything else, gratitude isn’t a one-size-fits-all practice. So notice how you practice. Are your moments of gratitude spontaneous? Try being more intentional. Focus on moments of gratitude first thing in the morning or right before going to bed at night. Start a gratitude journal. Already have one? Write in it at a different time, on a different day or more frequently. You may find that your gratitude practice needs to be more or less formal depending on the time of year. Some of us need an extra “oomph” of gratitude in those darker, colder months than we do when the sun is shining and the birds are singing in the spring. Try something different. And then try something else. Notice how those changes make you feel. Knowing what works for you and making the connection between expressing gratitude and how you are feeling in the moment will bring you to a stronger gratitude practice! We’re also wrapping up our month with an act of gratitude that will allow us to share the benefit of gratitude with someone else. Write a gratitude letter to a family member, a friend, a coworker, a neighbor or acquaintance. Express gratitude for an act or influence they have had on you. It can be in the form of a short note, a card or a longer letter. Just like in your gratitude practice, your letter can be done in whatever way is best for you. Writing the letter will benefit you, receiving the letter will certainly benefit them and you might even start a chain of gratitude! Lorrie xoxox Loving the show? Let’s connect!
