18. How Attorneys Work Together (or not!) When They’re On Opposing Sides of a Case with Jaime Davis

A lot of people’s impression of divorce is that it’s an all-out war: you and your ex mud slinging in court, your attorneys personally attacking each other, and constant tension and turmoil. Don’t get me wrong, this can be the case… unless your attorneys work together to get the best result for both you and your ex-spouse. In this episode, Jaime Davis, a Raleigh-based family law attorney, joins Theresa to discuss why it’s a good thing when opposing attorneys know each other and can work together… and what it looks like when they don’t. Your attorney’s first duty is to you as their client, and often you can get a more equitable result faster if your attorneys work well together. If opposing counsel is a notoriously difficult attorney, the answer is not to engage in mudslinging or personal attacks.
