18 - How to use Social Media to Make Yourself Feel Better.

from Mindset Minutes · host Colm O'Reilly

How to use Social Media to Make Yourself Feel Better. It doesn’t take much to boost your own mental health. In fact everything I help people with is all about the minimum effective dose. What will take the least amount of time and energy and give us the best return. Since you’re most likely watching this on Instagram or Facebook we can apply some Sympathetic Joy right now. Sympathetic Joy is deliberately feeling happy for someone for their accomplishments or good fortune. Our fear based, scarcity thinking brains can look at another’s gains as unfair, undeserved, or a threat to us. “If they have something there’s less for me.” We can short circuit this by actively wishing them well instead of letting our primal responses take over. This will improve our mood, thinking, and overall health. After you’ve finished watching (and liking!) this post, scroll and find three people who you can be happy for. Once that’s done you can close your feed and know that you’ve used social media for something positive. The more you do this the better you’ll feel each time you’re on Facebook or Instagram!
