Popularisée par le Front National dans les années 1980, l’expression « Français·es de souche » fait aujourd’hui partie du lexique de base des mouvements dits « identitaires ». Utilisée pour opposer les « vrai·es » Français·es à celles et ceux issu·es de l’immigration, la formule est passée dans le langage courant pour décrire les personnes blanches, nées en France de parents eux-mêmes nés français. Cette identité fantasmée par les tenants d’un « grand remplacement » passe sous silence les origines multiples des Français·es soi-disant « de souche », et renforce le mythe d’une homogénéité blanche et chrétienne.Audrey Célestine est maîtresse de conférence en sciences politiques, spécialiste en civilisations anglophones.
