180. Encouraging and Recognizing Others

Here on the LDS Mission Podcast, Episode 180 - Encouraging and Recognizing Others In this episode, I dive into the importance of encouraging and recognizing others in meaningful ways. As the LDS mission coach, I've noticed that mission culture often focuses heavily on goal accomplishment and outward recognition. However, not all missionaries thrive in this environment - some find it uncomfortable or pressuring. I share three categories of recognition that people may value: being known for their thoughts and perspectives (the "thinkers"), being appreciated for their deep feelings and empathy (the "feelers"), and being acknowledged for their actions and productivity (the "doers"). I encourage listeners to reflect on which category resonates most with them, and to consider how they can recognize the unique gifts of the people in their lives. Finally, I challenge listeners to move beyond superficial social media comments about appearance, and instead focus on affirming the inherent worth and humanity of others. By recognizing people for who they are, not just what they do, we can build more authentic and uplifting relationships. I believe this approach aligns with the example of Jesus Christ, who simply declared "I Am" - recognizing the profound value in each person's existence.
