180. What’s the cost of IVF and what does it include?

from The IVF Journey with Dr Michael Chapman · host The IVF Journey with Dr Michael Chapman

This is one of the most frequently asked questions from the IVF Journey Podcast listeners. Thanks to Medicare, Australians are very lucky when it comes to sorting out most of their medical bills. The taxpayer supports people struggling with infertility.  The out-of-pocket cost is between 4,500 to 5,000 per cycle in most premium bracket clinics in Australia. This cost includes getting nursing and an individual doctor doing all collection and transfer, seven days a week, etc.  However, public hospitals have been known to cut corners with costs and the prices here range from 1,500 to 2,000 out of pocket.  Which of these two options is better? Well, both of them get you to the same point if everything is straightforward. However, in more complex situations, a nuanced approach is required.  If you need help to make that decision between going the private or public route, you might find this episode useful. Don’t forget to share 🙂
