187 Selena: The Life and Death

This episode has been a long time coming! But finally after 3 years and some change we're covering this. For those who don't know, Selena was a massively popular Tejano singer from Corpus Christi, TX. She started singing in her families band at the age of 9 playing doo whop and 50's rock n roll. The band had limited success at first until father/manager Abraham Quintanilla decided to take their band into a completely different direction. Tejano music. Knowing absolutely NO Spanish at the time and dipping her toes in a heavily dominated male musical genre, Selena and her family became the Mexican equivalent of the Jacksons. After dominated the Latin Music scene, Selena was destined to be the next Mariah Carey or Madonna. But right before she was to release her much anticipated English cross over album....tragedy struck  as her assistant/business partner Yolanda Saldivar gunned her down in cold blood on March 31st, 1995.  Join us as we discuss the rise and fall of this star who died way too soon.
