It's Ben meets alien this week on King me the graveyard shift King me Baby baby I turned a corner there at the end. Did you feel it? Into psychosexual nightmare usually wait till around minute 45 to get to them. Oh, welcome to the King me program Change our name.

Well, it's King me the Stephen King movie podcast. Yeah, is that right? Would that be what comes after the colon? Is there a colon?

There's not oh my god. There should be one though probably right King me is a little cryptic. I don't know whatever people get it Read the description guys you fucking bimbo's as has been established on previous episodes go back and listen Was that the running man? Yeah, yeah bimbo's yeah welcome to King me.

I'm Dan Gagliardi. I'm Rob a bomb this week We're talking about graveyard shift from 1990. Love it The end did you love it did you love it so much? I actually kind of did it's a real it's a romp huh?

Yeah, directed by Ralph S. Singleton written by John Esposito based on the short story by our Trinity Stephen King is the father the son and the Holy Spirit Starring like you've said no one yeah, you know I don't know Andrews I'm gonna go out on a lemon say starring fake Tom Beringer and fake Marissa Tomay. I was gonna say fake Fred Ward Yeah, that's pretty good too, right? Yeah, I Like I watched half the movie before I realized it wasn't Fred David Andrews my like I don't know starring a friend to care about him.

Yeah Kelly wolf come on guys. You know these people. I don't have to tell you Brad dwarf. That's a guy He's a guy.

He's his IMDB picture. He's he's wearing like a music man outfit. It's got one of those like vaudeville straw hats on Just late for my a cappella group Stephen mocked let's talk about him the guy who played Warwick. Yeah, the foreman at the textile mill well I guess we should probably You know give a bit more context because so far we've said a horror movie at a textile mill You usually don't get that this is um, it's a this is the second scariest movie I've seen it set in a textile mill after the made-for-TV movie triangle fire Tom Bosley joint have you ever seen that what is it a movie about the triangle factory fire starring Tom Bosley?

No? Oh, he's yeah the boss the boss. Yeah, mr. Cunningham.

Wow. Yeah, so good This is not good. I had to watch in history class in high school. Yeah, that sounds Yeah, that sounds boring.

Mm-hmm. Oh, you think a movie where everything's on fire not boring You know what? I've never seen a movie about fire that actually stirred anything inside me back draft is not one of my favorites It's a almost fire. Oh, well, that's a different kind of fire.

That's a lover's fire This is a fire that only some young 20 something's could feel but I do want to I want to talk about Stephen mocked because he He's a fucking lunatic in this movie. Yeah, and he I don't know he this was a command performance and otherwise You know thoroughly bad. Yeah. No, it's not a good movie.

It's not a good movie set in the textile mill He was also I recognize him from the monster squad. Yes. Just another monster squad alum We we have him and remember little Joe B from corn kids. Yeah, he was in he was in who did Stephen play in monster squad One of the monsters.

He was like one of the the kids dad Like the main kids dad. Did he throttle a woman in that too? I don't I don't think so It's not a kind of movie, but it was the 80s We that's what we did back that guy's if we learned anything from this show just women got throttled women in the back Oh, jeezus. Um, no, yeah, he you know, he plays the villain in this movie So yeah, you know not that it's okay, but at least he's not the hero of the movie doing that sort of thing.

Yeah Yeah, this movie Right Real quick, it also has Andrew. I'm gonna say dice clay that devoff dive off. It's pronounced ice clay Yeah, he who was the wishmaster now in the wishmaster movies. He's an evil genie granting bad wishes One of the only kinds of I've in movies one of the really the primary kind of wish yeah mostly only dad wishes getting granted Right, I feel like if I if I stumbled onto like some sort of a genie situation yeah, and the guy's like three wishes And they're like I don't trust you also.

I don't like it. I don't like this genie's tone. He seems very put up Yeah, three wishes. You know the drill You're gonna ask first thing you're gonna ask for is money and somebody close is gonna die to you and you will inherit it It's a classic genie trick.

That's a prego on I'm thinking of the movie be dazzled starring Brendan Frazier. Oh, I love you Yeah, it's pretty good. I saw that a time when When the nation was swept up in Frazier mania yeah, and not to be confused with the previous Frazier mania I'm talking toss salads. I'm talking scrambled eggs right talking Niles.

I'm talking Eddie the dog I'm talking. What was the dad's name Daphne Daphne was Daphne was Niles love interest the dad was dad for me Ross the station manager yeah producer of the show different Frazier yeah different Frazier mania Oh, he was he earned some goodwill with me for doing and see no man and air heads I love those movies and he coasted on that forever right into bedazzle right into the tree He swung on a vine into in Georgia of the jungle right yeah, what was that other one he did with Canadian? We do right yeah, oh which was acting like those weird with those be Hanabar Barra cartoons. Where are they?

They were related they're like those shitty cartoons the rutchety buckle yeah the shot only made one yeah Yeah, a lot of Frazier talk up top well good for sure Which else toss alvin's grandpa like drop next time guys just The graveyard shift we have not said peep about what it's a rat's a lot of rats It's a big it's a rat heavy movie if you like rats. This is the movie for you It's set in a textile mill where the rat is king. Yeah, that's it. That's pretty much it Yeah, there's a king rat.

There's a king rat. It's there are a bunch of rats, but then there's one big rat that moita's people Yeah, this okay the setup is I know but what's his name David Andrews as John Hall Just rolls into town on the old Greyhound even his fake name is forgettable yep And he's looking for work and he is a character that I was reminded of Emilio Estebhese in fucking Help me out here maximum over there in that he's just like a blue collar dude with a college education Yeah, everybody kept bringing up his college education. Where did they get that information from he mentioned it once did yeah He did huh and then they clung to it. Yeah, it was it was so passing Yeah, but I didn't I didn't catch it and then everybody in the movie just like let's let's pick on the college boy Right like I couldn't tell you that educated drifter like I couldn't tell you when he mentioned it I just remember everyone mentioning it.

Maybe he didn't maybe I just am remembering everything. I've been gaslighted by all these townies Yeah into thinking he did um We should talk about the first kill though sure that guy oh that guy dessert mr. Bad ADR. Yeah, that guy doesn't want to go He alright so this guy's working the graveyard shift.

Hey, he's working the name of the movie He's working the cotton gin. I don't know guys. It might be a cotton gin. It could be I don't know But it's he's just he's unloading like bales of cotton into this machine.

That's like got huge teeth He's jumping down and he's spinning around yeah, and then this machine is picking bales of cotton. I'm gonna cut that For sure yeah, I'm just thinking of that a huge area of fun take fans. Yeah, I love Belafonte Yeah, who doesn't want to go on there cool right yeah, no, this is a pro Belafonte podcast I don't even get the whole clip so yeah, he's he's using whatever this machine is Let's say it's a cotton gin. Yeah, it's unloading a lot of cotton into it Basically, it's this thing with like big metal teeth that seem to be combing it separating it Into just flattening it out and stuff guys.

It's not about the cotton general I'm not going to know I want to really get into this the picture. I'm doing like a temple grandin thing with this So then rats start gathering in the rafters Yeah, he's he's working in the fucking basement first off and it's just like shitty warehouse and they're a bunch of rats So he starts he starts talking to rats and mind you this man sort of looks like a rat himself He has a rat like face and that's unfair, but okay. No, it's pretty I mean he does look like a rat, but I think I don't see how I think it's important only because I think they cast him because of that Okay, they were like we got it. We're gonna kill this guy off.

He's it's gonna be like a two-day shoot. It's like ironic Yeah, I think that's what they were going for anyway. What's the message there? The rats will not aren't gonna survive we end with one giant rat dying and oh it comes full circle.

You're saying yeah, okay Yeah, that's beautiful So that he starts he starts talking to the rats which he doesn't like and he picks up a rat and he throws it into this cotton Gin Yeah, and grinds it up But also for some reason he's got like this whole he's doing like an improv scene with the rats where he's like class is in session I'm the professor of rats He's really having fun with it because he is a rat man. Okay. Yeah, I'm sold. I'm sticking to it He's a big rat in a one of those mortar in a small rat town So he starts grinding other rats and then you like a large shadow to sort of like descends down the stairs Yeah, and he just goes Yeah, and then falls into the cotton gin.

Yeah, we're assuming right and again It's just this big machine with metal teeth that seem to be combing the cotton and pulling it into sort of an homogenous Yeah, sort of cotton thing. It's a lot of cotton that went to waste. It's all I can think that whole time I was like that's bad for business. Yeah, it's a lot of product wasted.

Yeah, but also he was just throwing rats in it Willy Nilly which means the shirt on my back. It could probably has red juice in it. Yeah He also like mopped up some rat piss with it, too. Oh, yeah, like a lot of a lot of piss came out of their rat.

Yeah, there's also some weird Like dubbed in rat noises for this thing that sounded like they were coming out of a dog Do you catch that they're like way too guttural and deep to be out of a rat? Yeah, the strange so then the next thing we see is oh, it's worth mentioning that we did our listeners the favor of skipping over the giant Credit sequence that's just like in a graveyard. Yeah, it's the graveyard shift Who would we be if we didn't film a graveyard? No, I mean this is jumping ahead a little and we don't have to go into detail But I need to know yeah, that was shoehorned in that whole thing with the graveyard, right?

Yes, okay Yeah, so we're going back to where we were I think so yeah, I couldn't like I watched it and granted I fell asleep in the middle of this movie right around that point so when I woke up I had to start back over from that point that I couldn't I couldn't see how it fit into anyway So we get to what's his name John Hall? He's rolling in the town. He goes into this diner People are very casually talking about the fact that in this small main town Yeah, one of the few employees at this tiny textile mill is died in the thrasher Yeah, it's those two guys who keep talking about all the employees that die right the Townies yeah, yeah, yeah should we do tiny profile You know we're not great at time management on this show and I feel like that's a real testament that's our swan song So yeah, those are all of our townies kind of this is their hub Yeah, they eat at the diner and they work at the mill and that's it That's it there seem to be two buildings in this town Yeah, it seems like everybody in the town works at this mill also Mm-hmm. They say I mean they kind of say they're like if the mill shuts down the town shuts down right make that yeah That's sort of the uh Telling the town together.

Yeah, yeah, and it's full of rats you think they wouldn't let that happen They got one building to maintain right and somehow the basement is full of the world's biggest rat And a lot of chairs so many chairs and old papers. Yeah We meet some townies we meet the wishmaster guy And then we the the the fatter guy. Oh that guy sucked I hit broken broken I hated him when he got his hands on that fire hose. Yeah, I was like Grinding my teeth.

Yeah waiting for him to die because I knew it was gonna die I was just waiting for him to die. Yeah. He oh well get to he didn't pull a clip of that did you? No, I know he uh, but he was in the party down.

I don't care. Oh, who was he on party? Yeah, yeah, he was in that episode where they they're working the it's like a Russian. Yeah, is he the guy with the big glasses?

They think it's gonna get you back. Yeah, that's him. No kidding. Yeah.

I like him so much more than that I know he's terrible in this. Well, yeah, it's sufforable. Yeah, so yeah, we meet him What even I don't know things that's a movie are kind of like just stacked on top of each other. Yeah, there are yeah Nothing seems to happen.

Yeah, things just happen I don't know what the reason is really but John Hall goes to he's like alright Well, I guess this is the only the only game in town is working at this mill so he goes and he has a meeting with With Warwick our main main bad guy our King Townie. Yeah, and we get this little exchange, which is Hold on. I want to this is Warwick basically telling John that he's got the job All right, then that's it step for the hours because of the heat we only run that sucker for tonight 11d7 graveyard shift that's the name of the movie. Yeah Now that's just the audio so for the listener.

He does look at the camera and wink and you cut it off before the thing Yeah, so also I just realized who Brad Dorif is like I recognize his name. Yeah Billy from one floor with a cook is nest Yeah, he's right he's Billy in Coop's nest. He was also in a really good episode of a final file Yeah, that's what one skull. He's dad.

Yeah. Yeah, great up. He plays the serial murder. Yeah, he was in dune The Lynch did a munch movie.

He's in he's in like a lot of like sci-fi genre kind of movie great underbite. Yeah, he's got this like It's just a face. He's got a rat face. Yeah.

Yeah, he's like a good rat. Yeah, it's like a moral rat Yeah, we also we're introduced to his character which in the opening credits They build him as the exterminator right which made him set to me I thought he was gonna be some sort of hero figure Nope that he was gonna be like the badass who no no or like something seen person who knows how to kill giant rats No, he's just like a weird Exterminator he's a super dooper town. Yeah, that's what like everything that he's suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, right? Yeah, which you find out like halfway through like his yeah, he he's got no special skills.

Yeah He just likes killing rats more than anyone else He's not better suited to do it. He just enjoys it more everybody seems to have a thing with the rats Like it's one of those things where like I work in a warehouse all day on board The only thing that will make me happy is killing some rats So we got John Hall working now. He's the new cotton gin worker Mm-hmm, and he sees all these rats and that's where he breaks out the sling shot a grown man with a sling shot a real Bart Simpson Yeah, he uses this slingshot throughout the movie is check off slingshot. Yeah, he basically walks around within his back pocket Well, he whistles.

Yeah, and then he's like he's also a love interest in this movie kind of yeah Which was I was like really really any chemistry at all there wasn't because like I was so mad that they like painted an ex-husband Into her backstory because I was like oh this is just a let's yeah next wife That's fine, but like I was like oh this is just a like a lesbian character and I allowed to address it because it's only 1990 And not 1994 sure that beautiful window of like two years where we were super cool about everything Clinton Yeah, the two years bill Clinton was president remember yeah, but yeah rusty grew Right, I'm talking gin blossoms. I'm talking Jane's addiction What else came out of the 90s singles the movie that camera crumbly I've never seen Empire Records SLC punk Don't be a menace to South Central while drinking your juice in the hood. Don't do it. Don't do it.

Hey look at me You there with the juice. We think about being a menace. Don't do it. Don't be a man I'm not saying don't drink your juice.

I'm just saying don't be a menace. Well you do it as you were go ahead do it You're hovering over the little slow tonight button you were let me go. I'm gonna stop it I know also the character who I referred to as possibly a lesbian her name is Jane Wisscon ski Wisconsin no no change Wisscon ski yeah, yeah, I Are moving yeah warwick. So warwick is he's the foreman.

He's running this mill right and he's clearly an asshole He's he's nasty to his employees. He's fucking one of them. Yeah, what was it Nardello? No, no we're down to the credits.

I thought it was Nardello, but yeah, I was did wrong He's but he's also the actors fucking going for it man. He really he's making big big choices That's that's really like we have a lot of bad movies ahead of us Mm-hmm, and I just hope that people make the same large choices Yeah, and like this movie is a real smorgasbord of accent work to yeah like ever Small town in rural Maine seems to be like the cultural melting pot of the United States But he he is all of them at once yeah seems to have a debt like Absorbed everyone's accent. Yeah, I do have this clip here of him. He's talking to um, what was the girl's name?

Not nor delo Jane Wisscon ski. Yeah, Wisscon ski He's talking to her and basically he's like listen you don't want to be working in the basement top down there if you fuck me I will give you an office job. So this is where we pick up there Hey And it's gonna get hold up It's double pay so back off man. Why don't you wise enough for Christ say my car delo?

Yeah, where the fuck is this guy from you know? I'm looking it up. I want you to guess where he's from The man himself. Yeah the action the actor Canada.

So you Canadian boy. No you want to take another guess is he Is he from? Is he from Jamaica? No, where's he from?

He is from the far-flung land of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Oh, well that explains. Yeah, yeah It's why he said woulder. Yeah I go home it does say he was born to Russian he's of Russian Jewish descent.

So I wonder if that is a factor that's playing into it. Yeah, but he studied at Dartmouth and Indiana University is a learned man. Mm-hmm. So I wonder I don't know I feel like the accent is a choice Yeah, it feels like I was a choice I wonder if he's not doing like a perfect main accent like a regionally specific accent and everyone like that one guy's just like Yeah, I'll just do a Boston accent.

Yeah, yeah So I wonder if he just like did the leg work for this role and everyone else was just like that's a paycheck I'm gonna film this in this is a good way the rat movie. Yeah, I'm just gonna show up. I think I'm not gonna put the word Yeah, so he's an asshole John Hall's working in the basement. We set up the exterminated Hall's working in the basement.

Mm-hmm. Everybody's running from the rats was concierge might be Slammin Conce. Oh boy. Yeah, kind of lost at the end.

I wasn't expecting you to let me keep going again I'll I'll I'll stop you next. Yeah, I need to be reigned in Or just don't say things that have such a musical quality to them. Oh the lyricism So we get we get that scene where the exterminators is telling John Hall about his days in Vietnam. Yeah, which was strange Yeah, he was going on about the Vietnam rats That felt like super real in a way where like you could just be like, you know, I don't know waiting in like the off Like the office at like a mechanic and the guy next to you's just like, yeah, you know the rats in Vietnam It's like I just want to read my men's health magazine.

Oh, no Yeah, he starts talking about the Vietnam rats and how they were friends But then they turned on them. Yeah, cuz the Viet Cong fed them hot meals, right? They believe her his exact word. Yeah, he says they fed them hot meals of I think it's something along the lines of great a American male Okay, okay.

It's a weird line right? Yeah, definitely And he explains that they used to tie the guys down to the ground cut open their bellies a little bit and then stick a rat on there And basically force the rat into the guys Tom Tom. Hmm. What was like part of it It was like if the rat didn't want to go in they'd put like delicious hot rice in no no data they they would They would cover the rat with a flaming rice bowl.

So that's so hot so we would have to tunnel away through through that man's tummy For that and yet he hated the rats. He hates rat. He's been racist like everyone else like a normal decent person. Yeah.

Oh, man Oh boy, this show is like my descent into madness Yeah, remember episode three when I was like feminism No, wait, I was I listen back to some of the clips or this the ice is gonna break. Well, it's just a better time Yeah, we're so hopeful. Yeah, America was great back. Well, like 10 weeks ago.

Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Oh, man Yeah, so they got that weird scene with them And oh and then nor delo we get all that business the where she she gets put on basement duty Yeah, she first right she's like they have an argument her and she's fucking warwick right for for that nice air condition office I suppose and he's a piece of shit and he'll he's doing whatever so they have fight and He like a day or so passes and then he puts her on basement duty.

She's an office girl now And he's like nope, you're on basement cleanup, which is the dirtiest possible job. Yeah, it's for the drags of this town. Yeah, it's It's some gross basis. It's not even a basement.

It's like catacombs. Right like well The sewer water just runs under there on purpose that there's a problem that I have with this is how fuck it How many basements does this fuck a place out because they fall through four? I think it's like Mortal Kombat. Yeah, it's like they go like six stories down Yeah, yeah, it's weird a lot of history not like oh a lot of house right hasn't been cleaned up since Christ was a kid Oh, yeah, that's an actual line in this move.

It is oh man. Oh, well, we forgot to mention what the slingshot is that he He's he's working this machine by himself And he's the rats are coming out of the rafters or whatever and just to kind of keep them at bay He has just a bag full of empty diet Pepsi cans Yeah, he is slamming diet Pepsi down there. He really is. Hey, well hot and you know what it is a tasty refreshing beverage and uh You don't have to feel too guilty about it either.

It's low in calories. Oh no like it's a hundred degrees They make a point of like show them a thermometer a few times. Yeah, it's a hundred degrees in this I mean it's part of the setup of the movie right like it's built into the title of the movie that they run the machine at night because of how Hot this places right and he is just guzzling 80s diet Pepsi with like shitty sugar substitutes from the 80s Yeah, but yeah, they like you know that label is pointed squirly at the camera Yeah, which like what weird product placement? Yeah a diet Pepsi was like but again, this is this machine kills rats No, but this is Stephen King's graveyard shift.

That's how it's titled So again like when the movies are no good and there's nobody starring in it. You got to throw Stephen King's name right at the Yeah, that's the only way you're selling this that's when you bring it to Pepsi and you're like hey, can we use your cans? It's a Stephen King home. Come on.

Can we do that pitch meeting real quick? Yeah? Yeah, you be the Pepsi exactly I'll be the guy from the graveyard shifter Oh Let me know when you're done taking your fix it. Oh, what are you drinking?

Pinsip Pepsi fix it in Pepsi It sounds good. I would uh, oh, that looks really good. I'm pretty thirsty myself. Okay.

I do you fall. Okay. I won't have one So anyway, I was just wondering how we were wondering if you'd be interested in Um Well, um, it's just kind of I guess what I'm saying is can we use your cans? Can we use your cans?

My cans for what now? Oh, excuse me. What your voice gives me an idea for a character. I have to go write this down.

Excuse me So sorry about that on back. I know I'm very me but I had to put my foot down just that one time because when inspiration strikes, you know Oh, yes, that's how we made the diapepepsi formula Inspiration boy. I'm actually a man. I'm a grown man.

My name is Candice like I said Anyway, can we use your cans? They're my name What was this movie all about then? Well, okay, so you know, you know, right? Oh sure They're like they're like mice, but their tails look like a stretch up penis.

Sure. I'm bigger Like if you put a penis through a taffy machine, but it was also an earth one. Well, I feel like we've all been there boy Okay, I got one you've got one certainly he's got one. I worry anyway One of them is really big and you can only kill them using cans.

So can we use your cans? Otherwise, they're gonna win You got my cans boy. Thank you. Goodbye.

We're not the regular. Oh, you gotta take the diets Are they stronger the cans themselves? Yeah, I guess because these are affordable phone. So I don't want to take any chances Yeah, just put that label out.

We want to see that sure anything to defeat these fucking rats great and see I'll cut that whole thing Perfect We emboldened by last week's episode Maybe a bit. No, I'm fine. That's important thing. I'm on face.

Let's get down to the space man here Which level the cleanup level? Okay, well, no no no no no no she flips out and she she's not having any of the space Cleanup and she takes an axe to Warwick's car his hot rod Yeah, it's like a classic Cadillac or something and she starts accident right up while everyone in town watches Yeah, and he comes out furious and he grabs her and he's about to like like beat her up Yeah, like clothes fist. Yeah, like ready to just knock her block off and much like no one stopped her from attacking his car Yeah, uh nobody was gonna stop this being much like no one has stopped her from attacking attacking that object. Yeah, no one was going Oh, Jesus.

Well, I'm you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah It was a better time, right? So yeah What's his name John Hall? Yeah, he catches his fist right and gets put on basement duty as a result and that's where we get the line shows over Shows over great read it is yeah fucking everything this guy said I was I was hanging on everywhere like it's music and At a certain point it literally becomes music, but we'll get to that you forget to that So that every they pick out their basement Clean up crew and it's everybody that we've met so far basically no delo the odds Yeah, no delo she tries to like I don't get some paperwork dirt on Warwick and she ends up falling down the stairs and breaking her neck and then getting eaten By eating eating by a giant rat. It's and when I say giant rat.

I mean a man size rat. Yeah, it's wings It's um, it's the rat from the princess bride, but hairless and a grocer who owns something usual size. Yeah, that's right Yeah, I don't know the chronology of this movie is there's no heightening in this movie. Yeah, it's weird You know, it's just people get picked off one by one by this giant rat right until the end of the movie when they are when the rat is a Dunneen by diapepsy True.

Yeah, yeah Right every one by one they they start picking the rap picks the guys off right they keep like we said they keep falling down Further into basement levels. Mm-hmm and I guess there there seems to be some sort of link between that graveyard we saw in the credits Yeah, some like underground tunnel maybe that but it's not made clear all we know is that it fall They fall into each other at some point and there's no reason it seems like for at all. No, what I but also Warwick kind of knows About it see that's I wasn't I didn't understand that if he knew that there was a giant rat down there And he was just feeding it like his worst employees if that's what he knew about that But he knew something was up with the graveyard because he sent Billy he sent the exterminator there to die right he said right he did something Yeah, okay, because he was like watching him out the window ominously right as he died Yeah, right he said he's certainly around to the graveyard. He goes into like one of the tombs or something Into this like cave thing and like a giant like concrete just like a big yeah, like a stone maybe it Crushes his cuffs.

Yeah, just like lands on him and crushes him it crushes his skull, but they still kick in he is pretty upsetting But oh, man, but I thought the worst bit was when like sliding down and blood in the bits. Yeah the mud in the blood Is that a trope now being killed by giant tombstones happening creep show at Harris dies that way. Oh, yeah To makes a trope to makes a trope on a t-shirt So yeah, so he knows something is up and he puts his like his most hated people in on this cleanup group Yeah, and it's not like I don't know if he knows that there's a giant rat. I don't think he's fully aware of the situation Yeah, he certainly knows people keep dying in the basement and he's okay with that He's sort of into that even if you're an asshole, you're right.

I don't think you want to be Complicit in in the death of several employees, but that's okay It's simply not good for business. This is one of those things again We're like these people are put into like this situation where they can't they're like stuck in a place and one guy is Always just continuing to be an asshole. Yeah, he's like above everything else I'm gonna be an asshole I feel like we're gonna start to see that trend ramp up like as we get farther into the 90s Because like I know the Langoliers is kind of coming up right that is to me the epitome of this this kind of premise right where we get people trapped in one Location. Yeah, but yeah, what a weird.

What do you think when Warwick took like I don't know if it was dirt or oil or something And rubbed on his face like some fucking apocalypse now style shit I feel like that would have made more sense for bread or of scaritor, right? Yeah, like they accidentally killed him off And they didn't know what to do Like that to me that that's like the kind of character that you think is dead and then he you find out He's not dead. Yeah, and he's the one who ends up sacrificing himself and saving the yes, right? That's how I felt like he was established.

Yeah, um, I feel like with Warwick He should have split off from the group and been trying to sabotage them on his own like he's snapped Yeah, and been running his own scheme, right? You know like aware that the rat was an existing threat So he's trying to kill that rat but also like whatever's going on that made him want to kill the exterminator because I wasn't clear on that either I couldn't follow the logic of a guy named Bachman. Did you catch that? Yeah?

Yeah, a guy named Bachman either being displeased or not displeased that there was rat waste in the water I don't know there was like this whole convoluted thing with like a neighboring town No, it didn't it didn't matter. It wasn't even convoluted. There just wasn't enough information right for Stephen King not to give enough information on something Damn, yeah, yeah, cuz this was like extract this wasn't from a novel this is from a short story Right, so like that whole there's just not enough there. Yeah But like yeah, I would have really liked to see him like they find out some dirt about him Maybe someone doesn't snap their neck falling down the stairs right find out some shit.

Allah money Oh, no, it's Javier Bardem. Oh It's me So anyway, what was my Javier? Did you see this rat movie? No, what do you want to talk about?

Yes, dad Anything else What was I like working on no country for old man pretty good? I guess I got to kill three people for real That was real. Oh, see nice With their wives was it a cuckolding thing By how they are Yeah, you missed out your bottom. I didn't say I missed him Yes, oh if someone would have like found some shit out about him Yeah, and just kind of well, yeah, if they right there was so much missing from the story Yeah, like right if somebody found out something about him and they were planning on going to maybe the cops who are not Existent this movie or the press some crazy thing or even thing never make it out of the basement if they're trying to like if their goal Becomes get out of the bay.

They no longer care about killing the rat. They're just trying to survive They're just trying to get away And he's like no, we're all going down together or some shit some crazy shit. It's some shit Just some badty business then great paint your face in mud and do some weird like I don't know Gorilla warfare stuff like that's the weird thing like there's I don't know almost like a Jesse Ventura And what's his name have they got split into two characters? Oh, yeah, it's been spent yeah, there's like a similar sort of issue happening here Yeah, I think I don't know It's definitely a weird sort of I'm I can't say character arc for anybody but as a character squiggly line Yeah character finish yes well Yeah, because they give him like a weird redemptive moment at the end what okay, so let's get to the end here Yeah, cuz there's no sense in trying to go in it doesn't even matter the rats start it's killing people One guys the rat dies at the end, but okay before that okay, they so John Hall and Daryl Oates kind of girlfriend What's your name Jane?

Wisconsin yeah, Jane was consky with consky she so the two of them they find like the rats like main layer It's filled with bones so right the big fight on the human remains pile. Yeah, so they're like oh that's the way out So they start climbing this big mountain of bones to the exit and a hand reaches out and it's warwick and they pick them up And they're like oh, we got to get this guy. Oh, thank God. You're you're okay And he's like no, I'm not I'm taking this character flaw to the extreme Yeah, like it is it is heightening the idea of like someone just being an unredemptive asshole right it's like nope See this human this pile of human remains.

We're gonna stay in it right. We're gonna become it. Yeah, let's Let's fight right here. Let's use bones as weapons.

We throws the skeleton at them. It's so funny Yeah, so John Hall and Warwick they get into their their bone fight sounds like they're fucking but they're not no should never be a fight Yeah, and work ends up stabbing the girl in in the the tum-tum. Yeah, and just like basically like gunning her like she dies She dies she dies. Yeah, she's not which is it's weird They totally set it up as like there was no chemistry between anyone But they were setting it up as like these two are friends and they kiss one time in an awkward moment Yeah, so you're like, okay, this is flimsy at best, but this is what we have now So it'll work with what we got this is where we are yeah And so when he stabs her and kills her you're like, oh, that's weird and I don't understand why this is happening and They hear the rat in the tunnels and Warwick starts running towards the rat and and then he meets it face-to-face And he's like, let's go to hell.

What's that line? Do you have it? Oh, of course I do because I love when things are supposed to be like the catchphrase of the movie now You're gonna think that the line is over and I just I didn't cut it soon enough, but wait, okay Wait for guys keep waiting He got he takes his sweet-ass time with that last word of his So and so he him and the rat tussle a bit and he just dies Yeah, he doesn't win that fight which is fine because he shouldn't because he's the bad guy of the movie, right? So he doesn't get redeemed, but what's the point of giving him that line?

I have no clue It doesn't make any sense. He wasn't it maybe because he went Kurt's on everybody, but I don't know so Alright last scene John Hall has crawled his way out. He's got some stomach pains of his own Yeah, he's like cramp cramp cramp cramp. He's got a stitch He was like grabbing a stomach like he was I thought he was stabbed or something, but he was no You just like oh yeah, and this is like the nose out through the mouth and through the nose out through the mouth What in horror movies in general like this is there are lots of scares and screams and thrills This annoys me more than anything is when somebody is like no When when somebody thinks they got away and they're like alright This seems like a good place to take a nap.

Yeah, well to be fair. It's a big pile of soft-cotton I mean if anything's can be but like he he's like Five feet away from the hole that he just called out. Yeah, yeah the giant rat hole Yeah, can we can you just just go upstairs or something and then sit down? I don't know do something yeah, but then okay So the rat comes out they have their little like back and forth and the rat is like a Ted Yeah, the rat is on top of his cotton gin and our hero in quotes John Hall Yeah, he's got a sling shot out and his trusty diet Pepsi.

I wish I wish it would have been false I was like oh crap He's like he's like oh tickles it tickles me nose Yeah, just like and like his last like line of the movies just a big soda burp It's a freeze frame on his lips like And then the Simpson's thing So he shoots the the machine on switch well, let's not glance over the very not suspenseful slow-motion shot of the can Tumbling and over and through made like someone just like tossed it into a garbage can yep It didn't oh god. It was so bad I was hoping they were gonna cut back and forth between like him looking at it and the rat looking at it and him looking in the Rat looking yeah, that would have been great But it hits the big switch on the cotton gin and the rack gets shredded to shit Yeah in the cotton gin and all the rats start eating its corpse. Yeah, that's and that's it That's and then right and then we we go to the shot of John Hall and he's sort of like crying and victorious cries of whatever and fade to black Fade up and we see a sign that says under new management, whatever, you know Something mill yeah and then cotton textile the word you're looking for is text. I know fair enough And then fade to black again, so it fades out that happens in the beginning to did you catch up?

I didn't when it's just cutting from like B roll to B roll to B roll of graveyards Yeah, um there's like something happens There's like a car that drives by and it fades to black then it fades up and then another car drives We're is really weird They don't know how to use the fade out they don't know how to use a lot of things in this movie Did you notice the name of the producer no it was like it was a husband and wife duo I gotta pull it up it was a really funny name though. It was like hold on Come on talk while I do this while you're doing that. I want to get into our segment. Oh that hurts our Oh, please.

Oh So I think for me my parts were this movie is not good. I'm gonna say that but I did I kind of liked it Yeah, it is it's so weird and It wasn't like sure that like maximum overdrive was yeah like Salem's lot was a real fucking chore for me. Yes. Yes There's a look there's a look there's some fun to be had here And I don't know I feel like this is such a it's like a it's a horror movie.

This is like an 80s horror movie Yeah, it's like 90. I know it's the 90s, but we got some runoff It's like you ever see the omen the first one no no, it's it's actually a very good movie Gregor pack is an amazing actor obviously and it's really well written and well shot and looks great And it's actually by the end of it It's got some like actual like sort of chilling stuff to it and then they made three rats no no rats And I can't imagine I'd be scared this is big doggy. Oh That's an evil doggy is he yeah, I don't like that. He's a bad boy the bad boy of dogs.

What's he do that so bad? Don't tell me I can't stand it. We'll have to put him down But they made a bunch of sequels off of that and they're obviously not good, but they're they are horror movies right now Yeah, it's like that thing where they're just like we gotta keep going We just have to keep making horror movies and they had production so we go on yeah We beat on boats against the current or in back ceaselessly into the past so I'm happy or new sign off and so saying Stephen King We just do the last line of the great cats me That's funny yeah, they'll be funny explain it our guests who've never heard the show before we have to do a new innocent Yeah, and so we beat on boats against there So yeah, no, I know what you mean it. It's just like sort of like a night of the creeps Yeah, it's not good, but it's it's kind of fun.

I mean I know crepes is a lot. Yeah, that's a crepes is a special film I love that yeah, that's pretty good. It's like the movie stuff. Mm-hmm.

So as far as my parts being hurt I don't know. There's there's probably some like for me. It's like the technical stuff like the bad ADR in the beginning especially Yeah, like I don't know that always throws me for a loop. It's bad.

No doubt, but I Can't let it slide. Oh, no, you know what hurts my parts It's just fucking what's his name screaming the whole time he's using oh, yeah That really like I was not amused yeah at all when he was he was like Rambo with a fire hose He was not broken broken Vic Palizos who he established was on party down and that's great and cool and we like him for that but in this movie for about 10 minutes He's wielding a fire hose killing rats screaming. Yeah the entire time he's using it like whenever he's whenever there's water coming out of the fire hose It's just a single note screaming and it's the by the end of it. I was just oh my stomach was in nuts I hate even talking about it that hurt my parts terribly.

Yeah, I'm glad that I'm getting this out Yeah, I have to go. Yeah, that's the worst part of it. It's just kind of annoying. It's fucking it's deeply annoying to me There this isn't this didn't hurt my parts.

I like this part I just saw it in my notes. There's one point where the exterminator he goes to shake John Hall's I'm holding a mutilated dead rat. He yeah He's like he just had he like takes his hand out from like behind him and he goes to shake his hand He's like whoops. Yeah, he's not a dead rat hanging from his hand quite dead.

Yeah. Oh my goodness I also just like it did something to my stomach Yeah in the diner when they just show that person pull the thing out of their chowder Yeah, that's really gross like a hair, but with stuff clumped to it. I don't talk about anymore. It's not shining moments Yeah, what'd you love about this movie?

I love Warwick Warwick, baby It's a command performance. That's it. Honestly, I think that's that's what makes a good horror movie He's like one guy doing fucking everything just picking up the slapper Everyone else like yeah, this kind of horror movie absolutely this movie would be unbearable if it wasn't for that guy Yeah, like choices that he made you know like really fucking going for it. Well, yeah, absolutely You want to like I don't know I watch this movie I was like if I'm ever in a horror movie I have to go huge That's the only way to do this.

Yeah, well fucking the part where It's broken he's like is it no it's not broken. It's that other guy who's like being a goofball Oh, yeah, and he comes and he's like guess we're ready to submit yet a stop search I pulled that to can you play it? Yes, I can't obviously do it as well as this master of stage and screen. Yeah, this guy He looks like I don't know the guy's name, but he's on 30 rock.

Who's the producer on the bald guy with the oh? Yeah, he does a Scott Ads it. Yeah. Yeah, he looks like Scott Yeah, yeah, yeah You just bought yourself a shift She's gonna be very fun shit.

I should be downstairs And there's like a there's like a thing he does he says that he like pumps us a little bit fucking incredible man Just choices on choices. I love it. Yeah. That's very good King tropes Barf man in the book.

I'm working on now. There's a spooky monster You almost forgot. Yeah, I know there is a spooky monster College educated yeah college boys working with blue collar boys who's like better than them for no discernible reason Yeah, we already said obstinate asshole for no reason to detriment of the group What else what's going on in this shoe horned love interest? Yeah, I guess no that's a stretch No, I think it was kind of it.

Yeah. Oh it. That's one. That's a king trope.

Yeah people clown No, not a lot not a lot of King tropey stuff just townies. I guess like a lot of townies. Yeah, I mean they mentioned Castle Rock I sure do yeah, which is but stand by me from Castle Rock. No is it it is right?

I think so. Yeah, I think probably a lot of stories if we were to read the books which we will not do we will not read the But I stopped asking all right every fucking week I come I come into the studio I check my nose Rob is crying because there's a gigantic US Postal Service Burlapsack full of letters from you rabid Bimbos Full of mail demanding that we read the books you send us books you throw them through our windows We're not gonna read um you want to know what I do with my copies burn them. I burn them to the ground yeah Doesn't take that long books aren't tall. They're short like little doll But smaller all right, let's see why I'm DB I am DB where we compare our opinion of the movie against the Evergeusorating on IMDB calm.

I think everything that's happening here is criminal but go on what this episode no no no Oh, this business for the store. Okay, six thousand seven hundred fifty nine votes not a lot not a lot to work with here So that's important to know because a lot of internet users. They tend to go one star ten stars They have voted and it comes out to four point seven out of ten stars. How do you feel about that too low?

Yeah, yeah, it would okay four point seven is like that's an almost unbearable to watch I would like yeah maximum overdrive is I give I think I gave that lower than a four probably I would I mean me now as I currently am you would give it a four going to therapy. I give it lower than a four I've been working for you more for yourself. Yeah one more for myself. Yeah So I don't think this is a four point seven.

I don't think it's that bad. It's bad. Well, I mean five out of ten That's a C right like five out of ten is that's passing no right 50. Oh, right?

That's true true true This is like I would give this it still didn't pass but make like a D minus maybe yeah, you know It's on a curve you're great on a curve. You're grading on a curve because like Fucking what's his name Warwick Warwick? That's like an extra credit assignment. Yeah, he didn't extra credit.

He did the work Yeah, right. He really really did he took the weekend. He didn't go out and he showed up for like tutoring sessions and stuff Yeah, yeah, I would say I you know We don't see too much of the giant rat which is a good call. Yeah, we start yeah Because when they do show it you feel sad for it kind of it's just like a naked mole rat and but bigger so big as a bird Is break not small a holly are barked at me.

You came from the end of the show. I just wanted to say what was your rating my rating Say is up of the a's ah stars Stales Great. Is that right? Yeah, it's not how you say it in my native Tom.

I can't be sure sure Great well, thanks. I'll be our anything. I should want to talk about before I go. No, I know coming promise No, maybe I'll just skin care tips my beauty regimen my workout ready.

I know thank you I'm where to go when you're staying and Martha. Oh, okay. Bye. Bye Yeah, just kind of pushing me out of the way and then I kept trying to run at him But he was doing that thing where he was like holding my head back just with the palm of his hand I was swinging but he's so tall that I just couldn't even like a classic stooch Yeah, I was going you couldn't hear me because I was too far away from the mic.

I was going let me at him. Let me at him Let me at him. Yeah, so you like you don't like this score. What would you give it?

I'll give it a six Yeah, I think that there's enough fun here to be had it's not great glowing into Put it on the poster. There's an there's enough fun here to me That reminds me of my favorite review that we've gotten for the show which is I felt it was fine Yeah, which is someone I know but I still it still makes me laugh at that time I would I don't think I'd go quite to a six. No, huh? Maybe a five point five.

Okay. There's a you gotta go above five of four Yeah, four point seven is it's a little less that's two four point seven. Yeah, that says There's nothing going on here And I do feel like there's a couple good performances from your from your billies from one floor of the Kookoo's nest From your I forgot Warwicks. Yeah from your no one else's Yeah Yeah, so that's that's great.

That's right. Yeah, I'm done with it. Yeah, I can put this one behind me. Yeah, I think Yeah, I think I'm good never forever probably right.

Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, so um next week. Yeah, we got oh baby Is it going all oh bra bra? Are you just doing this because you know I know exactly what it is it?

Oh my god? Yeah, that's really exciting actually. Yeah, so next week. We're gonna be watching it, which I know I Know that some of the people that listen to the show Eli you are We're asking about it and it's happening next week.

It is happening pencil it in guys. Oh Fuck that's what I was gonna think Yeah, no, I'm very excited about that one. I have not seen the it in its entirety. So either it's a big one Yeah, I think it's four hours long So you know, it's just gonna be a fucking slob Yes, looking forward to talking about it in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah, we have guests, right? We do have guests. Yes Two guests two guests Amanda Meadows and Jeffrey Golden from the Devastator. That's correct.

Oh, yes. Yes, very exciting. Um, So if you like the the the Alex Fierer, yeah that wild child There these are the spiritual bed signals. Yeah, yeah same same sort of a ilk.

Yeah of a comedy writer person So yeah, so we have that's a look forward to yeah It's gonna take a while to get through that movie. It's gonna take four hours from what I hear It's gonna take days for me. Oh man. Yeah, okay.

Well, I'm excited for guys. I am too. Love that clown love that clown. So I guess uh until next time tell Nick until next time I'm dang ugly already.

I'm Robbie bond Oh wait, we should probably say what's about to happen because it's not gonna make any sense. Oh, yeah This is the end credits music to I'm so glad we didn't say Stephen King's full name Yeah, because then we have to end the show and people would be very confused This is just the end credits music to the movie graveyard shift because it's uh, it's fucking insane Yeah, and it's worth we want you guys to hear cuz we know you don't watch these movies So until next week Steve and King
