19. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Spooky Season continues! Kayla and Taylor discuss the themes and major beats of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s 2020 novel Mexican Gothic. Topics include femininity, 1950s outfits, and MUSHROOMS! Mushrooms everywhere!This week’s drink: Black Widow Smash via Half-Baked HarvestINGREDIENTS8 fresh blackberries, plus more for topping1-2 tsp fresh rosemary, plus a sprig for servingJuice from half a lemon1-2 TB honey1 ½ - 2 oz tequila or MezcalCouple dashes orange bittersSparkling water, for toppingINSTRUCTIONSIn a cocktail shaker or glass jar, add blackberries, rosemary, lemon juice and honey. Muddle all of the ingredients together, squishing everything to release the juices. Add the tequila and orange bitters. Add ice to your glass and strain the drink over the ice. Top the glass with a little more ice, pour the sparkling water over, and gently stir to combine. Garnish with fresh rosemary.
