19. Reindigenisation is the revolution! Learning Māori abroad with Amelia Butler

from ĀIO: a road to peace · host Tarikura Kapea

Moving our mindset to a more indigenous view will help heal this world. From education to agriculture, from mental health to being community led. The indigenous view communicates our oneness with nature, it highlights a holistic approach and awakens ancient medicine. Today I am speaking to  Amelia Butler, an educator and lover of Māori culture and language. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree and Māori Land Law degree from the University of Auckland. She lives on Turtle Island (USA) and runs a  business called Learn Māori Abroad, teaching Māori and non Māori about Māori culture, language, haka and poi. She is on a mission to educate about the term "reindigenisation" and feels it is a powerful word to reclaim our Māoritanga. How can we move away from centering the colonisor on our reclamation journey and instead feed ourselves with indigenous practices to develop a more indigenous mindset and way of living. Whether you are on your Te Reo Māori journey or curious about indigenous culture this episode is hugely educational, insightful and inspiring.  WHAT WE COVER: - Starting arted her business - Learn Māori Abroad  - Amelias Te Reo Māori Journey  - Reindigenisation as opposed to decolonisation - What are you left with after decolonisation? - Grieving the impact of colonisation has had on our whakapapa - A perspective shift about viewing our pakeha ancestors  - The weaving of Māori culture and Native American culture - Wāhine's place in the haka - Cultural appropriation of the haka  - Hine Moana Nui Socials: LEARN MĀORI ABOARD website | https://www.learnmaoriabroad.com/ instagram | @learnmaoriabroad tik tok | @learnmaoriabroad instagram | @amiriabutler AIO instagram | @aio.thepodcast tik tok | @aio.thepodcast TARIKURA instagram  | @tarikura_ DONATE: My loves, help keep this podcast alive by donating!
