Historically—and in many jurisdictions—this covenant has been understood as the union between a man and a woman.Key Verse: Mark 10:6–9 (NKJV)6 But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.7 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,8 and the two shall become one flesh”; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.THE NATURE OF A BIBLICAL MARRIAGEA biblical marriage is a God-ordained institution—a divine covenant—not merely a government contract or a cultural arrangement. Its nature remains constant even though ceremonies may change over time.Key Verse: Genesis 2:18–24 (NKJV)18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”19 Now out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.21 Then the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.22 And the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.23 Then Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman,” because she was taken out of Man.24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.DREW AND CHRIS TALK ABOUT HOW THEY DID IT BACKWARDSCHARACTERISTICS OF A BIBLICAL MARRIAGE FAITHFULNESSA biblical marriage is built on unwavering faithfulness and sacrificial love.1 Cor 13:4-7 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Proverbs 3:3–4 (NKJV)Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, So that you will find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.2 Corinthians 6:1414 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what [communion has light with darkness?PRAYER REQUESTS:Prayerful Reflection:Closing (5 minutes)Reminders:Like, subscribe, and share this podcast with someone who may benefit from it.Email us at [email protected] with questions or topic suggestions.Check out our YouTube channel for more content!Thank You Message:Thank you for joining us for this episode of The Unreligious Podcast.
