I'm gonna get it something. Okay, because we're heading back on city Westlink towards our right. Okay, but all the good food places that way You guys I need to pick up something to eat. I go oh that kind of do not Good morning after any good evening you welcome to the all talk car podcast as you heard We've got hello here this morning morning.

Hello, honey. Oh honey Ross is away our family commitments But we've got a great guest this morning We've got Mr. Les Smith 28 year veteran of the variety bash rally that runs through our beautiful country And he's here to talk about this years and within 28 years. I think you might tell us a story or two about the old ones as well I think we've got a we've got some good stories to tell but the origins of the bash Dick Smith actually started the bash back in 1984 as he described it at the time a drive in the country with a few mates there were some significant Well-known people John Singleton and other well-known people that went on that event in all over one in all good one and they raised they went from Burke in New South Wales to Burntown on the Gulf of Carpentaria and They raised 240,000 dollars, which they distributed through other charities The event was obviously got very popular and they secured a big sponsor in the form of red X Yep, they got the same job and And they chose the charity to put the money with the variety the children's charity was called the variety club then so when they first ran the First one was the variety The first one was the first one was a Dick Smith being a great Personal like that raised money well, yeah, so so then it took off variety got on to it and got behind it Yes, and that allowed them to bring on a lot of people who had it profile at once the profile started then the event got momentum and All the way through now till today when recently the last bash raised over two million dollars for Wow for variety And I think the model still says is a group of mates driving the back roads of Australia That's exactly right and there are conditions in the rally.

Oh sure. What are you talking about in theory? You're not supposed to make it go any faster. You can modify the vehicle for suspension Transmission brakes safety stuff.

Yeah, and basically that's exactly what we do the car has to be 30 years old or Older the character To the thing and the idea is to make it a it's not a race or a rally There's no winner. There's no time sections in fact if you complain about something you get fined for complaining And the size of the fine depends on the size of the complex. Yeah, so it's a very Social event The two weeks that it normally goes for around about two weeks is the culmination of 11 and a half months of fundraising by the teams To get to get the money together for variety Everything that's donated to variety is is a donation. Yeah, all the expenses of running of building the vehicles running the vehicles fuel Accommodation food everything on the event is today cost of the entrance variety doesn't cover any of that Yes I can't just turn up with a 30 year old fan lane a week before the race a lot of it you register early and the fundraising starts In 40 of it.

Oh, that's right. But you could turn up like that so long as you had a big check in your hand Which is a which is a no no no no we were we know the value of a dollar Yeah, and for those of us who are veterans in the event we coach and and help other teams What we call a virgin team could be somebody that's people have never been on a bash at all and we put them together We'll we'll mentor them in how to do things with the car There are certain little things that you can you can do which we found out over experience our first car for instance We when we bought our first car we bought it off a team who had it Really previously run it and it built by a tape college one of the guys was a tape college tutor in Mechanics and he's him and his boy. He's a built this car in what was the first car it was an HR station Well, I mean it was 1966. Yeah, I mean this thing you could stand back and fire a shotgun at it And it was bomb proof the thing was it weighed about two tons Yeah, and we couldn't figure out what it was so heavy the guys that had it said here you go Here's the the book with all the parts all the spares and this thing was an inch thick It was like reading the Bible and it was cross-reference to another book that told you what the parts were Yeah, they've gone dot and cross on this thing and even said like front ashtray 12 1 inch Cotta pins 12 half inch cotton pins six lock knots, you know everything that was on the car So back in the day So we did our first bash with this car Yeah, and when we got back the first thing we did was rip all this stuff out because we thought we're carrying all this stuff That's covered in dust because it's never been used the fuel consumption for the next bash Was half of what it was before because we were pulling this Almost yes, so yes, so you're running it was your first event Are the support crews from variety of else like official admin crews there with spares or is it the commandry amongst the other teams that help you out?

No, it's a bit of both the the variety bash the new south was much which was the original one We have mobile workshops, which are volunteers a Couple of them are nrma road guys who when the NRA may was a big sponsor The bash came officially with the NRA may and then when the NRA may stop doing it They came cutting the laws as independent things They've not paid and everything's voluntary if you break down at the side of the road eventually one of these guys is gonna come along and You know the radios. We've got two way radios, which allow us to speak between the vehicles organizing the course These are a team that goes out months before and plots the roots It was a I mean, you know just go out there haphazardly without planning no we have a we have a bash director a gentleman called Stuart Tilfer Stuart goes out probably four or five times before the final event before the event and Plots where we're gonna go there's a couple of things which are quite significant with we debash and that is what the first thing is We're a rolling economy So when you think there's 350 people probably 140 vehicles very few of those vehicles that have a tank less than a hundred liters Right, so we're gonna show up in a town somewhere. We're gonna suck it dry or petrol here We're gonna drink it dry or Beer in the plug right? So we one year when new South Wales is having a bit of a drought situation We actually planned a bash to go to towns which were struggling because we knew that we could take Quite a large amount of input and money into into the community.

Yeah, so so we're a rolling economy We've got to be able to cater for 350 people so quite often it's somewhere like a could be the RSL club or or Rotary and somebody like that will do we'll put something on all the women's auxiliary Yeah So we take care of the dinner in the mornings. We all start from a school Stuart finds when he's out finding these places finds a school which needs some sort of help and we say to the school We'll pay you to put the breakfast on or we'll bulk you a make it an eggs toast Conflicts all that sort of stuff. We'll pay to do that. We'll come so you tell us what your school would like and We'll supply that quite often we give playground equipment in the Outback shade cloth was very popular over a playground Probably telling to a car or two I mean the whole school would know that the variety badge is turning up But it almost be a carnival I'll have atmosphere which have a turn you head into or leave out sure the What you find is the school quiet turns up and or the school band and the kids are all there and the cussabash is Every car carries something lolly banks or something like that So they're all dished out at that you'll find its appearance and People come to do the breakfast and they'll say to some local supermarket spot as the bacon I'll give it the egg or bread or so.

It's a win. It's a win-win situation or everybody wins a small I'm a bit of fun for each town as well. That's true. I'm checking out class with our 30 years of other Well the worst thing is he's actually he's a fan con all year.

You can I Can't Take photos later of Les brought his Falcon rally bash spec out the back and take some detail fires upon Instagram But there are some modifications on that vehicle. I mean we did briefly mention dust there are some devices on there to clear the dust Sure As you can imagine in the Outback is a plenty of that so what we try and do is prevent it getting in the car We built a system which has filters and it sucks air into the to the filter a big truck filter and blows pressure Is the car if you can keep them the coming of the car only needs to be a couple of pounds greater than the outside in pressure The dust won't get in the big trick is keeping the car air tight So I built our system, but I found that we really do need this so this year We're going to we're going to rehash all the seals To make sure that works it's highly modified. I mean We're not doing the power said that car but it's um, this this GPS to see these is it I mean like you said earlier, there's a lot of safety this you see harnesses how do you do? In my vehicle and most of the other ones we've installed full harness seat box most of the cars have roll cages of some nature Somehow the body itself has been reinforced the instrumentation It depends how fussy you want to be there are guys who do show up with with an almost standard car just with a trip meter screw to Dashboard and that's it.

Yeah a good friend Dominic Machano who's a big of a local character and was one of those who I'm going to don't get rexclap mini is okay, then he was um, yeah, that's really a strata a repair now. Yeah, she'll look at us He's always yeah, what I hope Dom's listening. I would have no idea how many cars these guys owned probably more than the bits of issue Do that obviously And actually the other day he was he's got a heart as probably as big as his belly, right? So he's a wonderful one of those always giving his time donating his car called on fire the other day Well, but he was driving it I think to the record off his car called on while the side arrived so One of them Dominic had a very interesting car actually he had a stretched e-h Stretch e-h Holden he went as a mafia like the thing was black matte.

I don't think it was meant to be black matter I think I think they painted it and that's how it turned out but the thing of it was that that had a difficulty turning corners and Periodically one would come around the corner and they're sticking out of the bushes at the back of this h.r. This e-h So the rest of the bastards meant quite a lot of time pulling Dom back onto the road and letting him go But but that's that's all it the comorado you we like the American Marines We never leave anybody behind we have a guy an official called the sweep the sweep leaves town Several hours after everybody else's left and at the checkpoint where you're leaving they're ticking off and you have a choice Actually, there is there is a road where you can go time like if you're having car problems Yeah, or you want to go and there's a there's a special stage So you say to the person I'm taking the special stage you ticked off in the special stage now when the sweep leaves town That's it close the special stage is closed So if you're still there you've got to go on the road and the sweep comes through the special stage And he's got the he's got this list and when he gets to the other end and he gets to the checkpoint coming in the checkpoint says yet They're all here right if he meets up with you in the special stage and you're broken down He will not leave you you will not be left on your own They'll tell you or something or your calling now. So we carry. Yeah, we carry them.

We have two lift trucks in our jack up trucks go with us again all volunteers and they play their own days all they play everything to go and They'll come back into the special stage and pick you up and bring you back So we'll always get the car to the nearest place where you can be any crew you have We have three Each car there are some cars have four we found we tried when we bought the car at the HR station I can originally had four seats in it and we don't own it for a matter of days And we decided we have a run up to Newcastle to to see how we liked it Right anyway by the time we got to Brooklyn We realized that for was too many because there was no way to put esky to keep the soft drinks cold So the choice then was somebody had to drop out or we had to get another car So we actually bought another car which had been owned by the same guy from New till the day we got it and it was immaculate one of the fellows in our team at the time was a truck insurer And he did a lot of business with Buckley's truck repairs I think I could call name them now because I don't think they existed and he took our car and the pristine shiny one down to Buckley's and said make that one not like that one and a week later when we went to pick them up if it wasn't for the Fact that we knew the registration number of the of the original one you wouldn't have know which was which they they Replicated it perfectly Bullbar roof rack everything so so we had two cars our original team our original team was called the four kids team Because we were doing it for the kids. Yeah, I remember plate was double four double four And our number on the car was double four double four So we had four four four three and at one stage we had four four four two and we had three cars after the third And I see broad in brochures for this year. So it's a 35th anniversary this year. Where's the rally starting from starting from Bondi?

And we're going to Be a reef which is actually on the on the barrier reef out from port Douglas So we'll be going out on sea cap to the island out there the artificial island and so be a bit of stuff would be Should have a big last year 2018 we we started in Bonnie rig Yeah, and we finished in breakling with breakling is actually a suburb of Alice Springs. So we we finished in the seems they drive back on Well, it depends last year we drove home because I had the time to do it in We're looking that we have a sponsor is a national transport And they'll get the car back from that little quarters you could The status of issues race it's a total of 4,570 Globitors which includes 150 nautical miles which is what you were wearing too early on But they're gonna be going through Bondi through the single turn through the in Verrell through the miles through the emerald Through the human den Yeah, Georgetown and then through Carumba Chilligo port Douglas and then onto the boat. Yeah amazing There are some interesting places you find over 28 years you've been to most of these But nevertheless each time they're different we went to a chilligo back in I think and Three weeks before the bash arrived the people that owned or the people that were tenants in the major hotel in the main street of chilligo Did a moonlight flip now? What I mean like flit is they're there when they shut the doors on at the night and in the morning they're gone And when we got there, it's like spin effects rolling down the street and the door slamming on the cantina and The trouble was they've taken the positive in fact they've taken full payments for 140 rooms Which they did 140 rooms they take full payment for it and then the flit so I've actually got photographs of me And there was only two in our car that year me and my crewmen asleep in the dental in the dental Surgery in the hospital coolness yeah, and there was there was no there wasn't a single patient in the hospital that night So the whole hospital was full of bashes all the water was a huge full of bashes it was very convenient You gave one next door to Dennis the nurse that my grass she's a dentist so that's all time All right, have you got a full car this year?

I have got a full car this year actually unfortunately, I'm not going this year because It's a bit of a backstory, but my my wife always with P&O when I met my wife I met her in the switchboarding in Sydney I went in to make a free international phone call and she handcuffed me to the switchboard refused to let me out until I proposed What is happy to have you? In 1976 right? Was that very first time? Close close actually because I met her on the 19th of December and proposed on the 4th of January and we and we'd be married 42 Yeah, when when the or yarn when P&O sold the old or yarn and got the new one bills The office in Sydney got a photo of a painting of the original or yarn and their names of the people who donated towards it are on the painting my son works for Carnival Corporation, which now which owns 95% of the cruising industry in the world and The or the or yarn has been sold for the Chinese and in August it's doing its final voice So we're actually going over and doing a final voyage and my wife is hopefully going to be presenting with that What's going on?

So about your background? You're a car guy? No, I'm a marine engineer actually I was with P&O for 10 years at sea We were handcuffed, you couldn't go? Oh, yeah, it was the end of it Now is the assistant port engineering the port in Dubai in the late 70s in the days when Dubai was the size of the bankstown Yeah, right and it was very interesting.

It was great one story. No, we had one big building there That would do by trade center was a skyscraper, but the rest of it was just a few floors Yeah, I told myself but nothing like it is now and back then in 1979 the population was 60,000 30,000 Emirati and 30,000 expatriates and if you're next to that time you were in some sort of serious job In 19 in 2017 we went through coming back from Europe and we actually went out to catch up with some friends Four in the morning, which sort of upset them a little bit but unannounced, but anyway, and in the drive I said to the woman taxi driver, so it seems very very interesting. What's the population here now? She said 2.4 million.

I said really what's the break up? She said 60,000 Emirati and 2.34 million expatriates So, yeah, that's why it's probably unwricking Well, yeah, my friend does an apartment in the Dubai Marina and we started a water ski or a water sports Association up there in 1979 which closed down in 2005 because they wanted to build something there That was the only reason but we used to drive half an hour out of town to one particular place to go have a quiet little ski I skied everyday, and I said to my mate with the apartment Let's go out to the fourth harbor and see what they built out there And he said come here and he opened the balcony door and we walked out onto the balcony and said look down We are at the fourth harbor, but you just don't realize now because of the there's no gap between But we've been trying to interest the Emirates government to do something like this through the desert We're making it a great opportunity there and then we're talking through the variety back Yeah, well if we do international organization, it's not the way we are The origins of right started in 1934 during the depression when some theatre owners in Philadelphia found a baby in there, Sieta and there was a note on the baby and said this is our daughter Sheridam And name Sheridam, she's our eighth child And we can't afford to keep up because of the whole of the job and the depression and so on And we've left them in your theatre because we've heard that theatre people are generous and we think you'll be able to look after it We hope you can look after it so they tried to find a parent couldn't do that So they put an ad in the paper for clothing and toys and stuff for this kid and they got so much that they said look at it There's obviously something here and that's how we got started Go incidentally the Hat and Heart logo was designed to hear in Australia and is actually internationally adopted now And I was a question with Darcy earlier, have any of the original, like does Dick Smith turn up or does... Dick Smith flies in periodically Are they still associated with it or are they proud of what's going on? Dick certainly is And we'll turn up somewhere in I think Conanurary and he's in his Learjet or whatever he was flying at the time Is he a good guy?

He's a great guy Very passionate about what things and he'll speak to you, he's not up himself I mean I bumped into him in a restaurant in Terry Hills one night and I was looking at a lot of guys from work I said, oh there's Dick Smith up there And they went out again So I went over and said, hey Dick how are you going? Oh, there's a lot of stuff up there It's funny how you can sort of... Any un-slippery's come along? Yeah, Dom Paul Young comes nearly every year actually He's just an amazing guy A couple got married on the bash The Stockman's Hall of Fame in Long Reach Just as they said I do, love is in the air starting up And up from behind Conanur on a sizzle If Ken John, Jake, why isn't that white suit you know the way he did And it was, I mean it was his children Yeah, he's a good guy He's a good guy, we went to Terry Knight and he was performing So now he does do a lot of Terry Knight Johnny Feynan was actually on our first bash Oh wow And he's a...

Johnny Feynan was exactly as you see him On the way Yeah, exactly like that And he was smoking at the time and he had this cigar that looked like a telegraph And we came round the corner And they were brat... They were brat- Otherwise Yeah, we're going to have to refer that to Chris Paul He was a twerman They were bratting down at the side of the road And we pulled up and we said, Hey Johnny, can we get some photos? Because whenever we see your mob by people And he said, oh yeah, come on And we were actually sponsored by a soft drink at the time I think called Apple Ties, right? And he phosled a lot, but he said, You can't really use them the other time But you'll be able to put them up in your boardroom And I said, Oh, I said, I was a very big fan I said, I've got three kids and I said, Oh yeah What's the name?

I said, Tiffany, Tamara and Fielding He said, Oh yeah, so anyway, yeah 11 days later, we're in Mattaranka Right, now how many people have he met in 11 days? Right, and I'll go over with the magazine Which looks very much like this I said, Hey Johnny, will you sign the thing for the family? He said, Sure thing, let's now Tiffany, Tamara and Fielding And what was your wife's name? Right, so he remembered when he was just a great girl And at the end of that match, if I just give you a funny story We've been in Mattaranka And we dusted our both our engines We'd got dusted into them, right?

And it was like a smoke screen So we put one car on And we told it up to the start They're all queued up waiting to go through the start And after we'd told the car up And we said, uh, did a bash down our engine John, we've got to go Because we've got to tow this thing all the way to Darwin And he said, All right, I'll get going So we got around the corner out of sight Just dropped the clutch in the one in the back room Got to go in, right? Well, we got from Mattaranka to Katherine And we pulled into a shell station And one of the guys had some trucks on the end of his digital card So he's gone in, he said, I want to buy some oil and spark plugs And then we said, I can't sell you oil and spark plugs unless you buy some petrol He said, well, we filled up in Mattaranka And she said, no, you got about a total So we bought 12 litres of petrol 60 litres of engine oil and 60 spark plugs, right? And we got, and you'll be going down the road And I mean, could you not? It was like a smoke screen, the other And this thing you go, uh, So, well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Six new plugs in, four litres of oil, probably go Anyway, as you come into Darwin on, it's your highway There's a great big bullock statue of a bull, right?

And the parade was supposed to meet up there Well, we get there, the parade's gone, hasn't it? Well, we're not going to miss our first parade So we've carried on, and we got straight up the store And you come onto the corner, each the seafront, right? Turn left and there you are There's 10,000 people there, all yellow and cheering We get to the finish, the cameras are there, filming this The Lord Mayor comes out and shakes around, the Lady Maress gives us a big kiss We're doing all this, we're looking a little bit gumsmacked You know, the variety guy runs over and says, cut, cut! This isn't the first piece, aren't the first cars, you are fast!

So the Lord Mayor drops my hand like he's picked up something terrible The Lady Maress is working on that stuff So we push us to one side, what had happened was The parade had done a tour through Darwin, right? For the crowds, well, we just got it off So we were off and they let Johnny be in the first car And they pulled up at the finish and he got out and he's done the thing there And his band, who were up on the balcony of the hotel where they were staying And they moaned him, right? It was a fun, anyway, never mind, it was a funny story And that night he played at a function for Vragi But early, and he said, I'm playing early now because I'm going to show to do in Darwin I guess I was booping for the entire one And he said, I'm going to tell you, I don't want to be here We go guys, and... Oh, good, I'm good, I'm good So it regards the Jodys listening?

Yeah He's welcome to come on the bus show And you're welcome to come on the bus show again? The bus, as well So it's not too late to register, so how can you look for that? What do you mean? No, you want to wag it, maybe you'll win a wag It's a bit of room in the engine bay for filtration system Station wag is good, actually you don't want to be good You need something like maybe an ambulance, the two of the drive ones No, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1, F1 They're popular, a guy, a guy...

No, you can really pressurise that and re-cove it Yeah, with supplies With supplies? They are, they're not as size as telegraph No, I'm starting to think it's a popular thing And you can get the V8 one, which... What a post-event with the door over the old four trains No, it's too much dust No, no, no And I think for rookies, that's why I was asking you, less before For rookies, maybe you'd go and do day one and day two Or something to get a feel of it Because not everyone can do this straight up for ten days It's not, I've been out two places like Cobar and that But we're stating a container, basically No, but it's a long drive And most times, there's not much to look at So really accommodation, we stay in motels But you can camp if you want, a lot of people like to put the tent up on the camp But we like to stay in, so we don't want to go too much off now But you'll find that you share the driving If we're being a virgin one with us, that's part of the deal Right, they better understand that they better do some of the driving If you don't want to do that, that's the point of the company No, they can't come back, right But certainly, my Syrian bashing is, at the end of the first night You're either planning on how you can sneak off home in the middle of the night That's the ice belt, yeah Or you're looking forward to the next batch, yeah Right, and that's how you look, very rarely do people only do one batch In the back of your car, you were showing me earlier The passenger 3-inch set is special skill Yes, he's got to be able to turn to his right With a full harness seatbelt on properly adjusted full harness seatbelt Turn to his right, openly asking you next to him and pass the soft drinks To the driver and passenger That rules you out On front seat On front seat with captain's seat dears On front seat with captain's seat with captain's seat And also, he's got to be able to cut the cheese and pass the biscuits without cutting his fingers off Right, which is Because the road's out the way Because you hit the occasional bump, yeah But it's something that, with Kamaradri, Tashiba, who I worked full time for for 16 years Until last July They've been a great supporter of Variety We make, I'm a big believer in the win-win situation It's going to say in my epic half, the one win-win-win Win-win, right? It's because I believe that I'm asking you to donate money to the charity But it's money which you've got to, you've earned, or your company's putting forward And you've got to get some value for it, right?

So, as you see from the car, and I'll see with the pictures that you put on the Instagram Tashiba gets a good coverage, I keep it registered all the time And I drive it quite regularly around for people to see what's going on If Tashiba have conferences, or if anybody has a conference Woolworth's big supporter of Variety And we show up in the car park outside of Woolworth's and put the stuff on the floor And promote it all the case And I notice that this isn't any of your right sponsors, Brian and Lee Yeah, and they have been from London And he's a very passionate supporter of Variety Greg I think we should donate his Ferrari to the bash He's a 30-cell, we've been asked for the latest Borwood for a week But we, they should buy a 30-year-old Ferrari to donate to the bash But Tashiba, last year, the general manager of Tashiba, Brett Davies, flew into Yolara And joined us in Yolara Now for 15 years, I've been telling them that we'd do it tough, right? Of course, you're arriving in Yolara, the one time in sort of 15 years We've been in a five-star, six-star resort And he said, look at this, you've told me all these years, you're doing it tough, you're following it But what he said was, nobody in the office He said, you've come back every year with a couple And nobody in the office has a clue of what happens out here He said, I've observed today the camaraderie And I think of the 354-hundred people of various economic standings There's people on the bash, there's hundreds of millions And there's people on the bash, you're probably on the dole, right? But you would never know who's here because they've all got that one focus, which is the kids And that's why we do it, and we do it for the kids And basically, anyone can donate, you don't have to just join the rally Is that the website to go to? Yes, it is www.varietybashnsw.org.au You can find all the information there There's also Stuart's the Events Director and Manager there So if you want to email Stuart, Stuart's to U-A-R-T-O-T-L-F-E-R at variety.org.au Feel free to contact Stuart and get a website and get further information Please mention the podcast and please mention my name And then they'll probably hang up on you No, they won't No, Stuart, no, we spend a lot of time making sure that In fact, my wife thinks I'm obsessed with the bash But I just love doing what I do and that's the important thing Well, thank you for coming on And I'm going to say, it's been my pleasure having sex Not much, do all this work Yeah, I'll be to the kidneys this week, but we'll be in 3D Yeah, we know That's all you do now I'm not going to take photos I should have bought a trailer, they've got that NT launch mode My car does not have emergency braking, I've found out Well, wasn't it, but what you're saying is still?

I will stay still That's not emergency braking, that's not moving I decided to look at my passenger seat for some stupid reason I was sitting in it And the cars and the deflates started going So I thought, well, keep the accelerator Because you're fine on the passenger seat? Yeah, I was touching the charger And yeah, the alarm went off, I hit the brakes and no Like the airlays went off Yeah, no, I just hit the kidney, no's dive Everything's fine, the lights are fine, I think we can go through insurance out We'll just get a new car Oh no, oh no Oh no, oh no You won't be lucky to understand the 3-series support Well, if you're not, I've already looked into it And we said, I left photos last night So why buy new when news will do? Oh yes, that's correct We'll see if I'm the only idiot with an M3 that's hit someone else Yeah, that's been quite a week It was actually Valentine's Day It was quite a week It was quite a week Actually, we do have a little, so one of our previous guests from Leading Edge, Ayman Yeah, he was working on a friend of mine's car A friend of mine, Pw, KSTNGT At once or something, he was the best leader And then this goes on to our, we had another guest on And we had the whole discussion about De La Delivre And what they get paid for and Ross had that experience This car got delivered And the way that it was detailed and buffed The paint was right, right, right, right The hazing, the buff marks It was just, if they actually, if they got a monkey do it Right? And the monkey had maybe given a week of training He probably would have done a dead drop Right?

It was a porn Especially on a black car Ayman from Leading Edge, I saw the car after it was done And it was sensational This thing is said, probably with that paint All the yellow cars had to get re-sprayed The black ones didn't have this for the back But the, and then I was actually going past the dealership During the week that I just dropped main road And I saw this guy down in his flight, he's shirt Nice, you know, the bike inside on And he just had a hose and a Chevy And he's closing the cars and he's going to show me him Right? You're using the, like, okay, the first car you got all the dust off I think he's just flying on the other one But you're just hosing the other cars and wiping the other cars With the dust from the first car and getting, like, you know, a bucket of water Clean it up It's not, you're looking after it If there's a row of cars there, it's probably half a million dollars in cars Yeah, if you get Ayman's own, we're playing at Leading Edge there on his own face He will, you'll see the video, he was pretty young But they should never buff machine buffer black car Well, they should get the swirl marks There was actually some North map, like some, a few light scratches Where they probably use a knife to get the protective coating Like a white plastic knife So they probably go with a knife and say, what will slip you, see the piece And they'll just snip the paint Like they'll come out for, you know, for thought to do And the fact that, well, it didn't affect the car I mean, the gentleman that we know, they bought the car And waited three, four days for a kid to get back to him And he couldn't wait Well, he didn't get any back yet So he went to Ayman and then after him, I think No, he actually delivered the car straight down He picked up the car and he went straight there But they waited for a kill And, you know, it was just like, well, only I've got back to him yet Well, the dealership's pretty much said, oh, you know, you know, we actually, what had you to say, I had a conversation with this gentleman yesterday That pretty much said, oh, but we really looked after you on the deal Right, just because you gave me a good deal to buy a car from you Doesn't mean you're hearing the car over looking like a pizza Yeah, it's all broken You know, it's no different to your trainees and panel-beavers and mechanics And you take your car there and you know, yeah, yeah, you're all daft here You get it, you get it, you get it, you get it A shit job done Alright, you know, I looked daft here But you didn't tell me one of the conditions I looked at after you was going You were going to be a soft-downer You still were going to get a soft-downer So, we'll see what happens this week, what day next week But no, apparently they're going to get back to him tomorrow We're just waiting on a sedan to have him get in person in the flesh GT GT sedan, so there's the GT sedan and the GT hatch So he just wants to decide, before anybody wants to look at him in the flesh next to each other So I can tell you now, if I don't look after him, I'll like you buy him from that deal issue Yeah I'll go elsewhere And I'll make sure that he's pretty It's not hard, he actually said to them, just make sure Just don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it There's an even more important style than cars, have dealers changed over the years? What have you noticed? Oh, yeah, definitely Is it back now?

Or is it not a service of car? I mean, you're in the sales I think the problem is, it's the age of technology So you go on a mobile phone, you can arrange anything from IVF to a funeral Almost without talking to a human being And unfortunately, that's the millennial style I think So they have no interpersonal skills, they're not used to talking to another person Face to face, looking at me in the eye and saying, well, let's have a look at this type of thing So the win-win situation doesn't exist that much anymore In a situation where I wouldn't have been surprised, it's a detail, I didn't have his phone He was one and while he was saying it was one in both the other The whole thing, definitely the old style, the old old style service And cars to that, especially the high end cars, even some of the more budget-friendly ones They've got metallic paints, pill paints And you can just see, but it was the hazing and actually the actual bath mask Now the dealership's gonna do the big old, but you know, you signed and you said you had to be with it Mate, this car is not a paint expert He just brought a car from you He expects you to, on your part, the agreement of dealer delivery and just a general good service And hand the car over in good condition And you've got to look at condition And not have to go elsewhere Now the people- That was the way you meant to enjoy it as well Edward Mate was gonna- He was gonna go get a paint correction and so on and carry it down anyway Right? But that was- he already- there was a fee for it, but when the car got there and looked at it All of a sudden, it doubled, because now there's a lot more work to be done In a particular winter- That's right So that was the way I was with the next one Oh, I'll be there A friend of mine who suddenly has not long to live with, that's another story When he found out, bought himself a brand new Lexus sports car And when he picked it up, he's a window cleaner this guy And one of his customers specialises in detailing Ferraris and Lamborghinis and stuff like that So he said, bring it out to me and I'll do it over And he said, I didn't have time to go and watch him because he took the text so long He said, he's got three buckets and he's got all this special washing stuff And he said, he doesn't- he's got a blower that you blow the water off when you wash it You don't actually do it and you- No, wipe it and scratch it And he put a ceramic fridge on there So when he took it back to the Lexus dealer, he put a note in the same- Under no circumstances, wash his vehicle, right? Don't touch it And when he went to pick it up, they washed it and they got scratched And he said to the- he got the same phone and he said, what's this saying?

There's no- Don't wash the car, that's right, well you washed it Yeah, but look at his scratch here So he rang the guy with the ceramic coaching And the guy said, what do I do? He should put it out in the sun And leave it for a while And he put it out in the kitchen and the coaching did the thing and it went back to me Well, it's just a gimmick of the whole industry It's- Well, I bought this at HSV I made it very clean, no detailing, leave all the livery stickers on it, right? Don't screw a number of plates into it I'll sort it, I'll get it towed, right? I'll come, I'll check it out, I'll- I'll take work, I'm gonna get it, tow truck to pick it up, drop it off to me I'll worry about everything else I get there, car sitting out the front, number plates in it, no stickers on it's been washed Keep your money, I didn't ask for a discount Oh, you know, the guys forgot What do I mean?

How do you forget something? If it's- Classed of all that, done You know, and what they were actually supposed to do with mine was Remove all the pre-delivery stickers and we are tearing them Which they come off of it, they're fairly new Remove them and they'll just stick them onto a board Once I can keep all my deliveries there, right? Oh, they're throwing them away So, while you removed them, two years through them away Right, it's not hard, man, you just got paid all this money And the most basic instruction that the customer wanted Which actually, you're making money, man, you're not doing nothing for it That's right, you're not getting paid for it? Yeah, please pay $3,000 for cleaning my car, don't clean it We'll be able to- We'll be able to- We'll be able to- We'll be foretelling the Ross back in a couple of weeks Lots to be back soon Les, thank you for coming on Thank you, thank you for all those stories, it was great, thank you for that And you're more than welcome to come back on after the event and tell us how it went Great How I'll speak to you next week Everyone, thank you for listening Follow us on Instagram and Facebook, especially this week We'll get Outlook.com.au if you've got any questions, any suggestions Download us on iTunes, StitchRspyFi, and on Shout Engine and Castbox And remember to rate us and review us, we're on the What's Hot List on iTunes at the moment So our numbers are going up and thank you very much for all your support And I forgot to add it, but just quickly, the Victorian road trip is on And we'll give you information next week So that is booked and happening, thank you for listening and we'll talk to you later, bye-bye
