190: Cronos + Tigers Are Not Afraid

from Film Buds · host Film Buds Podcast

Hey film buds, Last month we did a great episode with Nicolás Delgadillo to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. We decided we’d mark the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with a second part focused on Horror films with Hispanic roots. Join us as we talk about Guillermo del Toro’s feature-length directorial debut Cronos from 1993 and Issa López’s breakout feature film Tigers Are Not Afraid (Vuelven) from 2017. Though neither film can be described as a typical horror experience (indeed both are light on jump-scares and men in masks), they are excellent examples of filmmakers using the genre to address fear itself. We will also continue our updated coverage of the pending IATSE labor strike, what we’re watching, and much more. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out last week’s episode as well as all our excellent horror offerings. Keep it spooky y’allPS We had some audio issues on this one. We are remedying the situation and I, Paul, apologize personally.Be a Friend to the Film Buds:[email protected]/thebudsthefilmbuds.bandcamp.com@filmbuds on Twitter@thefilmbudspodcast on InstagramFollow Nick on IG and Twitter @nickdelgadillo and @NickyD715Episode GuideIntroducing Lauren - 00:00Introduction/20th Century Mexican Cinema History - 6:15Cronos Clip - 19:56Cronos Review - 20:38Tigers Are Not Afraid Clip - 42:48Tigers Are Not Afraid Review - 43:22IATSE Updates, Listener Question, Outro - 01:02:45Total Runtime - 01:30:29
