#191 Marathon Des Sables, Mental health & PTSD with James Bull

from Firefighter Podcast · host Pete Wakefield

From a background in high level rugby James Bull turned to  fighting fires and saving lives where over time he feels like he has lost himself as his previously confident, happy self as his mental health deteriorated in part due to the people around him and working conditions. As a Station Commander James says he knows that if he wants to raise awareness about the mental health challenges that come from working in the fire service, he has to be able to talk about his own experiences. But this, he says, is not something that comes naturally to him.  One of James's methods for managing his mental health is his passion for long distance running with one of his most recent and biggest challenges in an altogether different inferno; running 250km in six days through the searing heat of the Sahara desert, to confront a 20 year battle with PTSD.Things mentioned in the podcast can be found with the links below:James supporting The Firefighters CharityDocumentary created alongside James's Marathon Des SablesLocate nearby help with HUB OF HOPEListen to every episode & Debrief ever made, get full access to discounts, insider info & support the ongoing work of the podcast by clicking HEREA big thanks to our partners for supporting this episode.William Wood WatchesHAIX FootwearPlease subscribe to the podcast on YoutubeEnter our monthly giveaways on the following platformsFacebookInstagramFitness For the Frontline is coaching designed specifically to reflect the physical elements of the role of a Firefighter for those applying for, currently serving in or retired from the fire service.Designed by Firefighters for FirefightersJoin our Facebook group HERETry the program for FREE HERE Get notified of each Podcast episode as soon as they come out by clicking HERESend us Fan MailSupport the show***The views expressed in this episode are those of the individual speakers.
