192 | Deliverance and Despair (Psalms 18-22)
from Holy Lit: The Bible · host Allen
These five psalms sit at the heart of what scholars call "Book One" of the Psalter, the collection of 150 poems and hymns that make up the biblical Book of Psalms. To understand them, you need a little background. The Psalms were the hymnal of ancient Israel. They were composed, collected, and edited over roughly five hundred years, from around the tenth century BCE through the post-exilic period after 539 BCE. They were sung in worship, recited in prayer, and performed in the temple in Jerusalem. The headings that appear above many psalms attribute them to various authors, with David being the most common. Whether David himself wrote all the psalms attributed to him is debated, but the tradition is ancient and embedded in the texts.Source:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jdW2Gm6D10Xqn6OFnD_eRYc_wdZF7gsT/view?usp=sharing
