193 - Joe Keain Transitioning from Employee to Business Owner

from Podiatry Legends Podcast · host Tyson E Franklin

Joe Keain is a co-owner of PodFit Podiatry in Adelaide, South Australia. In the episode, we discuss his transition from being an employee to becoming a business owner in partnership with his former employer. PodFit Podiatry was not Joe's first employer. He initially worked for a podiatry business providing home care services. After 12-18 months, Joe was ready to leave the podiatry profession, but that all changed when he obtained employment with a business that challenged, inspired and excited him. We also discuss: Losing MSK skills. Enjoyment being part of a team. How he asked to become a part-owner in the business. The 12-month transition to business ownership. The different mindset of an employee compared to an employer. Leading by example and not cutting corners. Tip for Employees - Employers, notice if you're doing well and if you're not doing well. You've got to be supportive and add value to the team. Work hard and make sure you do the one-percenters. Tip for Employers - Don't be afraid to put trust in others and let somebody else into your business.
