from SAE Tomorrow Today · host SAE International

Laser and electron beams as energy sources for 3D printing? It might sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s all happening at Neighborhood 91, an additive manufacturing campus in Pittsburgh. . As part of the Neighborhood 91 community, Cumberland Additive is unlocking the power of additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing) for its customers in aerospace, defense, space, energy, and soon, medical. . In fact, Cumberland Additive and JEOL USA recently announced that Cumberland’s Neighborhood 91 facility in Pittsburgh will be the first installation in North America of JEOL’s new Electron Beam Melting (EBM) Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) system. This new metal 3D printed e-beam system will expand capabilities, primarily for serial production of parts. . To learn more, we sat down with Bill Freyvogel, VP, Business Development & Marketing at Cumberland Additive, to discuss the company’s vision, capabilities, and how additive manufacturing will change the face of manufacturing as we know it. .
