Nirvana was huge, and Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and others going mainstream has allowed other lesser known bands to be found and at least have 1 or 2 songs become popular. In 1993, alternative music was characterized by significant album releases, widespread cultural impact and the solidification of grunge as a defining genre of the early 90s music scene.
