1996 Election Special

In this long-awaited episode, three of Her Majesty's finest subjects discuss the generational change that was the 1996 Australian Federal Election.Some time back, we covered the unloseable election - John Hewson being undone by a birthday cake. Well, more specifically, a question about a birthday cake. That was 1993, and little did we know that we were about to witness a the beginning of a generational change in Australian politics. Paul Keating wins the unwinnable election in 1993, in 1994 John Hewson loses a challenge to his position as opposition leader and two years later retires from politics altogether, Alexander Downer becomes Opposition Leader in 1994 with deputy Peter Costello.
