2.12 Over Time, Not Overnight // Herb Courtney

from Walk With TFB · host Timothy F. Bryson

During this walk, Herb discusses how sustainable change happens over time not overnight.  Originally from Buffalo (NY), he earned his bachelor's degree in hotel restaurant management from the University of Delaware. While an undergraduate, he was a 4-year letter winner on the men's basketball team, 2-time team MVP, and finished his career ranked 10th in scoring in Delaware basketball history. After graduating,  Herb played professional basketball in Argentina, Isreal, and Turkey before returning to work in corporate America. His career pivoted back to athletics, when he started his role as Director of Basketball Operations at Binghamton University. During his almost 7-year stint at Binghamton, he served in several capacities with the men's basketball program including operations and player development, before leading as the assistant basketball coach. But in Jan 2020, he founded his own business and became the chief executive officer. Herb is the founder of Renaissance Search and Consulting (RSC), a Black owned firm whose mission is to connect higher education institutions and corporations with the most qualified and diverse candidates in the world. His experience as a student-athlete, corporate recruiter, professional athlete, and coach provides an unparalleled lens to how he builds relationships and connects talent to opportunity. Since its inception, RSC Firm has worked with several athletic departments across the country to bring inclusion, equity, and justice into their search processes.
