2-16-22: Don't sweat what you can't control

from SAX IN THE MORNING · host Steve Sax

I would love to hear from you, just send me text and let me know what you think of the podcast.Today I wanted to talk about an important lesson I’ve learned over the course of my different careers. We talked about the importance of preparation and the importance of having some heart and some guts to believe you are the right person for the job. Just as important as those are is the realization that you can’t always control the outcome. You increase your chances by being prepared and believing in yourself, but there are a million other little variables that could throw something off and you have to learn to live with them when they affect your outcome. This is so key because it can be discouraging to not get the best outcome. Nathan Chen knew it in 2018 when he fell on three jumps in the Olympics and he came back four years later to win a gold medal. Meanwhile his biggest rival Yuzuru Hanyu, was trying to defend his Olympic title and he hit a tiny chunk of ice that threw off a big jump and threw off his chances of gold. So don’t sweat what you can’t control, just prepare, believe and let the chips fall where they may. Visit my website: saxinthemorning.com for merchandise and other links. Follow us on social media: Instagram: @saxinthemorning_podcastYouTube: subscribe and watch shorts here Remember, Sax in the Morning swag is now available on my Instagram site.
