2 Chronicles 34 – Return to the Word: Josiah’s Revival Begins with the Book

In 2 Chronicles Chapter 34, we meet Josiah, one of Judah’s most faithful kings. He begins seeking God at just 16 years old and starts purging the land of idols at age 20. But the real revival ignites when something powerful is discovered - the Book of the Law.This chapter reminds us that revival begins when the Word of God is rediscovered and obeyed.In this episode, we’ll explore:✅ Seeking God at a Young Age:Josiah began to seek the Lord in his youth (v. 3), proving you’re never too young - or too early in your walk - to go all in for God. Revival starts with a heart that is hungry for Him.✅ Destroying Idols with Zeal:At 20, Josiah tears down altars to Baal, burns the bones of false priests, and clears the land of anything that competes with God's holiness (vv. 3-7). Revival isn’t passive - it’s aggressive against compromise.✅ Rediscovering the Word:While repairing the temple, Hilkiah the priest finds the Book of the Law (v. 14). Josiah’s response is powerful:“When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes.” (v. 19)The Word of God convicts, corrects, and calls us to action.✅ Humble Response to Truth:Josiah doesn’t ignore the warnings - he inquires of the Lord, showing humility and reverence for God’s judgment (v. 21). Because of his tender heart and repentance, God grants peace during his reign (v. 27).✅ National Covenant Renewal:Josiah gathers the people, reads the Book aloud, and makes a covenant to follow the Lord with all his heart and soul (vv. 29-33).
