2 Corinthians 11
from Riverside Reading Plan Hosted by Riverside Church
Paul's reluctant boasting in response to the false apostles' self-promotion reveals his genuine concern for the Corinthians' spiritual welfare over personal reputation or financial gain. His catalog of sufferings—beatings, shipwrecks, dangers from robbers and false brothers—demonstrates authentic apostolic credentials through weakness rather than impressive achievements or eloquent speech. The humorous conclusion about being lowered from Damascus in a basket shows how God's strength often appears through circumstances that seem embarrassing or undignified by worldly standards.
