Are you ever worried about being disqualified from heaven on a technicality? Much like the story of Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe, who had his gold medals stripped away over a minor rule, many believers fear that their salvation rests on their own perfect performance. However, the Apostle Peter offers a different perspective on how we can confirm our calling and election. Dive into a passage that many consider a doctrinal minefield. We explore whether Peter is teaching that we must “Christian hard enough” to stay saved, or if he is showing us how to live a life that is useful and fruitful. We tackle tough questions about the assurance of salvation, the danger of being a “carnal Christian,” and whether sinless perfection is possible on this side of eternity. Peter encourages us to make every effort to supplement our faith, not because we are working to earn a spot in the Kingdom of God, but because we want to verify the genuineness of our faith through spiritual fruit. We discuss the difference between “stumbling” into damnation and “coming to grief” in our walk with the Lord. Drawing from Peter’s own life and his restoration by Jesus, we see that while we may falter, our position in Christ is anchored and secure. One of the most intriguing parts of this study is the reality of rewards in the Kingdom. Peter suggests that for the growing Christian, an entrance into the eternal kingdom will be “richly provided.” We look at what the Bible says about different crowns, tiers of reward, and the evaluation of our works. Following a conservative, evangelical understanding of Scripture, we see that while salvation is a gift of grace, our faithfulness as disciples determines the quality of our inheritance. Whether you are new to the Bible or looking for a deeper understanding of Jesus and His promises, this message will help you stop living in fear and start running the race with purpose. We aren’t just waiting for heaven; we are preparing for the literal, physical Kingdom where Jesus will rule from Jerusalem. Join us as we learn how to stay established in the truth and grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.
