2 Samuel Chapter 24

2 Samuel 24 records David's sinful decision to number (take a census of) Israel and Judah, trusting in military strength rather than in God. After recognizing his sin, David is given a choice of three judgments. He chooses to fall into the hands of the Lord, and a devastating plague strikes the nation. When David repents, God stops the plague at the threshing floor of Araunah, where David purchases the site, builds an altar, offers sacrifices, and the Lord accepts his worship. This location later becomes the site of Solomon's Temple.
